I think a great issue is that people are looking for the end point of COVID. There is no "end point". We must vaccinate and practise staying away from others when we are ill. Additional restrictions can only stay in place so long. If mask-wearing stays as long as COVID is present, it will stay forever. At the peak of a pandemic, fine, but once everyone has been vaccinated and the pandemic is being better managed, it should no longer be enforced. Yup. There is evidence that wearing masks lowers demand for leisure activities and therefore has economic consequences. Its not consequence free to keep forever masking And its not selfish to not want to wear a mask for hours. Im not an anti masker, but at the same time shouting at people who dont like wearing masks that they are selfish isnt going to be productive

But I don't see any issue whatsoever with masks in crowded indoor settings indefinitely until we are no longer in a pandemic. It is not much to ask, i think thats the point though. A lot of people DONT want to wear masks indoors indefinitely. If that's what people want to happen in society now, then its a big change in behaviour which will need to be justified widely. Saying COVID isnt enough with most people double jabbed

I'm personally fine with covid free passes. I'm also vaguely ok with masks, though I prefer not to wear them for hours. But covid is endemic and isn't going away. I'm not pretending it isn't a serious disease but if you're saying we all have to wear masks and social distance now, for an unknown length of time, then I feel that's unacceptable. But anyway, this has derailed things somewhat so I'll leave it at that! But I don't see any issue whatsoever with masks in crowded indoor settings indefinitely until we are no longer in a pandemic. My perspective on this is different. Everyone’s now been vaccinated and immune as they’re going to get. That’s it. It’s not going away any time soon. If any measures are introduced now there’s no logical end point. So either we are OK with masks and social distancing forever (and no working theatre industry) or we have to learn to not be nervous in the theatre I'll be trying for rush tickets for this this weekend! Well I hope you don't ever expect anyone to do anything for you, because you are being exceptionally selfish. There doesn't have to be an end date - this is pandemic, no-one knows what will happen next or how long it will take. The theatre industry can work fine with people in the audience wearing masks, the only thing preventing that is selfish people. With masks, then more people will probably be more comfortable without social distancing, so yet again there is no logical argument for not wearing masks, just people who can't be bothered to be slightly inconvenienced for the greater good. That says more about them than others I'm personally fine with covid free passes. I'm also vaguely ok with masks, though I prefer not to wear them for hours. So, it sounds like there are too many yes men (and women) at the NT and RSC and not enough arguments! But I suppose times have changed since Peter Hall - would an AD get away with having regular stand up rows with other employees now? Maybe consensus building means not enough risk taking and controversy, and less diversity in the sense of contrasting and intransigent personalities bouncing off one another? I was just thinking that we've also lost the platform talks that the NT normally does with writers, actors, etc. Surely those would be pretty easy to re-start, and another way of revitalising the building. At the least they can do it on the stage and stream it online. Very lazy from the NT IMO

The national firing their staff during the pandemic left a bad taste in the mouth
In terms of the shows, i found the highs ( Small Island, After Life, The Welkin) to be high, and the lows to be low. I do agree that they need to take a look at their programming and put something a bit more inspiring in. Saying that, am looking forward to Normal Heart
And the RSC really need to sort themselves out in terms of getting more shows out there

Anyone have an email address or telephone number for them? A show was cancelled a month ago and they STIll haven't sent a refund through. UKsupport@todaytix.com
Having a similar issue with them, ticket open for over a month and just getting template emails without any actual response.
They are notably more receptive and faster to respond via Twitter, I just nudged them there and got much faster response.
they are completely useless. Im going to take it a step further with a formal complaint. Ill contact my card for a refund as well, hopefully they'll get a few black marks on their credit

I wonder what their news about changes to the building is going to be ? Was in their last email 'During lockdown, we have built back better. Literally. The Finborough building was purchased earlier this year by entrepreneur and property investor Jason Collins – who has been and continues to be hugely supportive of the theatre. During the past six months, the entire building has been extensively renovated and refurbished. We now boast an entirely new roof which will end the water leaks which made backstage life a misery; the staircase to the theatre has been transformed including the addition of a stunning skylight; all the windows in the theatre have been completely replaced with double glazing, substantially reducing noise from the street during performances; and our electrics have been upgraded and replaced, with the support of The Theatres Trust, enabling us to be far more ambitious in the future with the technical needs of our productions. We are also very happy to report that a new management for the pub will shortly be announced, and that the pub’s disabled toilet will be fully reinstated.'

For anyone following case numbers in the U.K., there is now a distinct downward curve. Slightly lower testing numbers don’t account for the more dramatic drop in cases. Hopefully it will continue on this downward trajectory. Yup. 5 days in a row of massive drops in case numbers. Fingers crossed this continues.

NEWS 🦠🚨Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi says a negative test result will no longer be enough to gain access to nightclubs and large indoor events by end of Sept. They must show proof of two jabs.

I'm sorry.."ever again"? Why on earth not?! Because the government seem happy for covid to become endemic and a significant number of people to keep dying of it annually going forward. There seems to be no expectation that we're ever going to get rid of it. So unless future vaccines are improved so as to completely stop deaths, how can meeting in large numbers ever be safe again? But it is endemic worldwide. Its impossible to have Zero Covid, so we just have to mitigate the risks. Vaccines have massively reduced the risk of dying from it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the NHS check in app gets erased by most people after July 19th

I thought that NHS staff weren't using the app because they'd obviously be isolating constantly? NHS staff are told to turn it off in the hospital for obvious reasons

On mask wearing, it's not a theatre thing. The vast majority of the time in shops/cinema/public transport I've not seen staff asking for people to wear masks. The exceptions have been for pubs/restaraunts which I've found to be stringent
For constellations, they were asking people to wear masks before and after the show, but were very much not bothering during.
Post July 19th though, I think its just down to the individual. If someone wants to or doesn't want to wear a mask will be up to them. I won't criticise either choice

Are there any weird restrictions/processes for this? Eg do you have to arrive a certain time before curtain up, can you get to the toilet easily before the show starts, etc? (I ordered my ticket ages ago and I can’t remember if it was emailed to me or if they were sending it nearer the time... if they’re emailing it they may send info about restrictions then, I suppose.) They should have emailed it to you by now ( they have for me!) shoudl be within 48 hours of your show doesnt say anything about toliets. Its 75 minutes all the way through, no readmission once it starts I was told you can pick up your tickets at the box office with your reference if its not emailed to you.

Javid expected to announce changes to self-isolation rules today Health Secretary Sajid Javid said he would set out self-isolation changes for those who have had both vaccine doses in Parliament later today.
“We will have a more proportionate system of test, trace and isolate, and it is absolutely right that those that have been double jabbed that we can take a different approach than the one we take today,” he told BBC Breakfast.
PA media quote him saying: “In terms of what we will be doing exactly, you will have to wait for my statement to Parliament later today.”
It is expected that people who have had two doses of vaccine will no longer be required to self-isolate for ten days.
The health secretary is thought to be giving a House of Commons statement at around 12.30pm in place of the currently listed appearance by colleague Jo Churchill.

Efficacy drop for the Delta variant with two doses may be 64% from most recent studies and may reduce further with time. Significant population still to be fully vaccinated. Booster programme will only start in September and take months to roll out to all vulnerable people. Infection rate is increasing exponentially therefore likelihood of coming to contact with an infected person is higher especially when social distancing ceases in a few weeks time and your likelihood of infection is dependant on the above. (3 London Theatres are now dark due to isolation requirements) Most will not likely become infected but at the moment a person does not know where they are on the protected scale and that is where the luck comes in. I do not want to scare only for people to be cautious, the world is not the same as it was in 2019 and COVID is not flu. The saving grace is that most who have been vaccinated and the young will shrug it off but some won’t and these are the ones I want to protect by continuing to wear a mask until the number of cases is significantly smaller. Israel have just reintroduced mask wearing, I am happy with full capacity only not full capacity with no mitigations, feel free to disagree as we all have opinions but you can at least see how I came to my opinion. I am comfortable for the posts to be deleted as maybe I am too negative. Obviously you are entitled to your opinion However, if you think you are being to negative, don't you feel you would be happier focusing on a more positive outcome? I certainly wouldn't overly stress about reports on vaccine efficacy for one thing.
