Hurrah! I've waited so long to this
It may be terrible but soon I will have seen all Sondheim's musicals that are available to stage

It's not great but it's not terrible. I see it's the Nathan Lane version which I saw and which was not to everyone's taste but it is a viable version of the show with its extra songs and its Shaw versus Shakespeare battle in Hades. And, of course, the music is wonderful.

Oooo, a venue I've never been to, and a Sondheim show I've never seen. Consider me booked!

Best news I've had all day. It's the only Sondheim show I have not seen. Are they going to flood the theatre? 😃 Only problem is I hate the venue. Has awful cinema seats and nil legroom. Unless they have changed it around since I was last there. Which was also Sondheim. Anyone can whistle.

The seating generally makes sense now, some of the awful sightlines have been realigned, and it's generally a more comfortable place to be.

An event that no doubt she vividly remembers as well. One for the Bad Behaviour thread I think . . .

Yes, new seating and there are no longer seats where your feet don't touch the ground Still the same odd ticketing arrangement - you can't select a seat and they just sell them in order starting from A1. I guess if you call they can do something different.

Also A1, haha!
I've not been to this theatre before. Stupid question, but does that mean we are all literally in A1, or is it unallocated seating and A1 just means you've bought the first ticket for that performance?!

When I went you had to sit where you were put. It was very random. Friends who booked the same performance after I did ended up in much better seats. I haven't been back! Between that and the abrupt staff, it was not a great theatre going experience. Maybe it's improved as that was a few years ago now.

Stupid question, but does that mean we are all literally in A1, or is it unallocated seating and A1 just means you've bought the first ticket for that performance?! It's allocated seating. Here's the normal seating plan - www.jermynstreettheatre.co.uk/2015/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/seating-plan.pdf - although the layout on this photo (which I think is what it is now like) is different - www.stjameslondon.co.uk/correspondent/jermyn-street-theatre/It is a flexible space. Stage is in front of Row A. I think rows F and G are a bit further down than they look on this plan, facing the side of the stage. So if they stick to the normal configuration they are selling the front row first, working back, then selling the side-on seats last. It's a tiny theatre so unlikely to be a big problem wherever you sit. Rake of the seating is reaonable, and the stage is at floor level. Used to be a problem before they refurbished as in one row your feet didn't touch the ground. Other oddities about the place - the "bar" is a little hatch at the side of the auditorium, and the loos are literally at the back of the stage - you have to walk across the set and go through one of the doors the actors use! They take the loos out of use a few minutes before the show starts. I have sometimes seen the last person to emerge from the loos get a round of applause as they walk on stage

There is no need to go with the on-line seating allocation. If you phone the box office (020 7287 2875) you can choose your seat. On-line offered me A6 but I prefer the second row so phoned up and got B6.

Have just listened to this a couple of times having not done so for a few years (the Nathan Lane version). It's vey enjoyable - and staggeringly prescient/relevant to our present moment, especially in the US. You will hear lines you won't believe weren't rewritten for the Trump era. Very much looking forward to it.

You are quite correct. It is very pertinent. My concern it is very preachy - It's only a play and Final Instructions are the big offenders
Playing Devils advocate, is Dionysos right or is he prejudiced towards the parts of society he does not like ?
Still I can't wait to see it. Thursday can't come soon enough. Just wish I had also booked tickets for the end of its run
