Would they rather have jobs and a name for a square that no one will ever use?
Or see the NT struggle financially and possibly cause staff to lose their jobs?
The public won't even truly notice the name of a Square. It won't become a rallying point for MAGA types.
Philanthropy is going to be an increasing part of the arts scene in the UK. We have seen the destruction of a number of literary festivals. We don't want that to happen to other arts venues and events.
As long as the money doesn't buy influence over programming, I am not going to be overly concerned as to how the donor votes.

I know the Old Vic was pressurised by Mark Rylance and other actors to not have Royal Bank of Canada as a sponsor because RBC have been funding fossil fuels and arms manufacturing but TBH finding a financial institution or rich benefactor that is squeaky clean is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Compared to the US, we are barely getting started with individual philanthropy Much as many of us dislike the Arts Council operates, we still do have public financial support for the arts. But individual giving will increase. As will corporate. It will be the only way many arts organisations will survive. And you are right in that few, if any, donors will get universal approval from every activist.

And yet Rylance is happy for to star in Juno and that charges over 200 quid for a decent seat

I think we need some nuance here. Nan Goldin's activism against the Sackler Foundation, given their role in the opioid crisis, was more than justified. Shouting about every rich benefactor because you don't agree with their politics can only lead to an impoverished arts sector.

Apologies if already discussed, but if a National Theatre production was filmed, but isn't part of NT Live, what is the likelihood of it being added. I’d love to have seen the Jack Thorne adaptation of After Life from 2021.

If in London or nearby, you can always pop into NT Archive and see it for free as they keep back catalogue for all productions. The recent filmed versons are good quality. catalogue.nationaltheatre.org.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Performance&id=PERF10940&pos=1

I think After Life can't be filmed for NTLive or NT at Home because of rights issues.
