I did rush tickets ($40 for side mid Mezzanine tickets) for this a couple of weeks ago when my family and I went to NYC. Unfortunately of the three shows we saw (Tootsie, Beetlejuice, The Prom) this was our least favourite of them all.
I don't know what it was about the show but it just didn't work for me as a Broadway show. It obviously has a strong cast but the music and script were mainly forgettable for me. I did however really enjoy the performance of Dee Dee Allen by Beth Leavel, her song It's Not About Me really had me laughing and I enjoyed the various Broadway/theatre nods throughout. We Look To You was a nice moment in the show too (sung by the Principal) and I definitely preferred Act One to Act Two.
This show was a last minute decision after we tried getting rush tickets for Mean Girls but weren't successful so we hastily decided to see this so we had a show to see on our last full day.

I finally saw this last night, and I found it a lot of fun, if a little too "breezy" in tone for its own material. I saw Be More Chill earlier in the week, though, and if I had to see two musicals involving drama at a high school, I'm glad I followed a mediocre one with a decent one.
