I knew she had cancer but (clearly I was wrong) It was my understanding that she was recovering.
I distinctly remember seeing somewhere a photograph oh her sitting on a bench somewhere in the sun in Central Park, wearing a scarf around her head to cover her hair loss.
It is quite remarkable that through the art of performance on stage- either seeing her in a show live, in DVD (Passion) or on a cast recording- a performer can touch so many people and it'y only at time that you become consciously aware.
So, if we, and other like use around the world are having the same reaction, imaging the absolute torture that her family, immediate loves ones and friends must be feeling.

Ovarian cancer can be very rough and tricky, even for someone younger than her. I was incredibly relieved when she was well enough to do The King and I, but statistically I always knew it was possible it could return — of course I hoped it wouldn't.
I think much of this is that Marin Mazzie seems universally loved by fans and people who've worked with her, even briefly. She just seemed like a solidly wonderful person in her everyday life as well as a colleague.

I kind of feel similarly- I didn’t know her SO well as a performer as I do others, but man what I did know made one hell of a mark. I haven’t been this sad about someone I don’t know dying in a long time. I think it’s also seeing what she meant to so many others I know and love. |

I listened to her duets album with Jason on the train today, beautiful all round as it ever was. I have to admit 'Move on' really got me though. Same. It randomly came up on shuffle just a day after her passing and it was very haunting. |

I consider myself lucky to have seen her twice on stage, Kiss Me Kate in London and Man of La Mancha on Broadway.
Have spent a few hours this past weekend watching clips on YouTube of some of the musicals she'd been in.
I'm still so sad...
