I can't say if I'm less convinced by the cast or the director tbh

Josh doesn’t seem like the obvious choice for a serial killer. Would Sweeney be overusing a vibrato like that? Sounds like a potential car crash 🚘 💥

A car crash seems a bit extreme, no? I'm not sure they are the right casting, but the are two talented and experienced performers who have proven themselves previously in major Broadway roles.

Never seen her live but I love the idea of Ashford.
Groban appears too nice for the role, but he can't be worse than Ball or Donovan so why not ?

They're both fantastic talents but this is the wrong material, it won't suit either of them.

All I want from this revival is a full sized orchestra. Every iteration of this show on Broadway besides the original went with a minimal orchestra. Did the Michal Ball revival use a full orchestra?

Seems to be from february 26th to September 10th according to Ticketmaster with seats on sale from September 19th. Long been a fan of Josh and his vocal talents will make this amazing combined with the full orchestra.

AmEx presale is occurring right now as I just snagged a ticket for one of the earlier previews. $240 USD with fees for row Q in the orchestra. Sigh.

But I’m afraid the west end is going to end up in the same position whilever people are paying £250 for a no-name cast in Cabaret, a name who bails out in Cock etc.

I might be in the minority but I think Groban will surprise us and be a really good Sweeney. He got into one of the top drama schools in the states before his music career started.

I just don't know.
I have been a fan of Josh Groban for many years- Since the Ally McBeal days, and whilst I'v no doubt that he can sing it, in my opinion, he's just too young.

He looks like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in those pictures so I think I dodged a bullet when I decided I’m not paying $300 to see it when I’m in New York in March.

Groban in 41 which is credible for a young Todd who married Lucy in his late teens/early twenties. Still works with the timeline of the script

And Michael Cerveris was just 45 when he played Sweeney to rave reviews in the last Broadway revival (2005).

Average life expectancy of an Englishman in 1850 (around when the String of Pearls was published) was 42. "Too young" he is not.
