I fail to see how they can make it emotionally satisfying. Are there plot points in the novel but not the show that could be used as a conclusion to part one? Because Defying Gravity is not it and I can’t think of another. I see it a bit like Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. That is one story split across 2 movies. The first movie ends on a cliffhanger yet still works as a movie in its own right. It has a beginning, middle and end. I left the cinema desperate to see the next movie but still totally satisfied with what I had just watched.

The new music on there is wonderful. John Powell was a great choice.

The Wicked movie has to be successful for literally millions of people who HAVE seen the full story on stage. It is known and there are huge expectations.

So you can’t leave the cinema satisfied if you already know the story? I left Deathly Hallows Part One perfectly happy despite knowing what was going to happen in Part Two. I may well end up eating my words but right now I’m a strong defender of the movie being 2 parts. For instance they’ve already alluded to exploring the relationship between Elphaba and Nessa a lot more. That’s not something we see a lot in the stage production and it is much needed!

meanwhile Ariana grande and Ethan slater were having an open affair on set? No one had a clue about them getting together. It certainly wasn't 'an open affair on set' by any stretch of the imagination. I think with the characters being more developed and relationships shown in more detail, I think it could be a satisfying end to Defying Gravity, but i guess thst depends on what you consider emotionally satisfying. If you want everything wrapped up nicely after Defying Gravity, there would be no point in having part 2, but i'm looking forward to seeing what cliff hangers they finish on and if it will make people excited to see part 2. I still think part 2 will be out in the summer next year, rather than in November 2025.

I wonder if they’re going full on down the Harry Potter route with this. It looks like there’s much more emphasis on the magic/sorcery. The school element is there, there’s a train, characterful teachers, flying on broomsticks… it’s all there. I was just imagining a Defying Gravity ride at Universal Studios Orlando, googled to see if anything was afoot and this came up www.travelweekly.com/Travel-News/Hotel-News/Wicked-attractions-Universal-parksI’m calling it now, if the movies are successful you’ll be able to fly on a broomstick at Universal by 2028.

The list of companies they've apparently licensed to is *huge*. And a real mixture, I'm surprised they all think Wicked will appeal to their target customers. Perhaps there are lots of now-grown-up Kerry Ellis fangirls working in their marketing departments?

We can joke, but I think we are being a bit reductive about the amount of fans that ‘Wicked’ has from all across society; not just theatre kids. Not sure how many million people have seen it, but if even 5% have an interest in the film I think it’ll do ok.

I think you're going to be proved right! There's so much potential for it to have it's own area including themed food and drink and shops (of course). I wonder if they'll try and do their own Hogwarts Express style ride as well? It's so visually rich the theming would be quite something to see!

I'm guessing all the new songs are in the second film.

For those that still collect physical media, here are the CD's and vinyls announced, I am sure there will be a few other special editions released too:
There was also a Picture Disc vinyl but that already seems to have been pulled, but I screenshotted it:

Sharon D Clarke is 58! She’s not playing Elphaba’s mother. A character seen largely in a pregnancy flashback and who died young in the narrative.

Courtney Mae-Briggs is confirmed as Melena, through a tweet by her agency today. I'm guessing Sharon is gonna be the midwife that delivers Elphaba.

Standing my ground by saying that the casting for Elphie / Glinda is still perfect, and Ariana is the best decision for this movie in terms of box office and reception. Don’t underestimate her global fanbase that are selling out early screenings to watch this film. Early reviews / comments are circulating only hyping this up .. someone pinch me please x.com/emilyuribe/status/1844022934475854166?s=46
