I'm surprised Taron is returning to the stage so soon, I caught one of his few performances in Cock and looked very uncomfortable

Hmm. A bit underwhelming casting if the rumor is true.

I don’t believe that for a minute.
Taron had awful stage fright and fled from Cock (no sniggering)
I’d wager that Paul Mescal would also be a bigger draw in this anyway.

The only people in this country right now who really know who Paul Mescal is, are film geeks who love “Aftersun” or theater nerds who know about this “Streetcar”.

Paul Mescal was filming Gladiator 2 before the SAG strike so I suspect doing Broadway is difficult since he would need to commit to 13-16 weeks which is not possible if he's basically on call to resume filming once the strike is over.

Paul Mescal is undoubtedly a bigger name than Taron Edgerton is right now. His star also seems to be on the rise in a way that never really seemed to materialise for Edgerton.

I’m going by everything i heard from the people i know (a lot who are theatre people) who had never heard of him during his “Streetcar” run. Not picking a fight at all just going off my experience here.

He also happens to be in 2 films premiering at the London Film Festival this year.
All of Us Strangers and Foe. Smaller movies but with some big names attached to both!

I know/know of a lot of people here who are neither theatre or film nerds who know who Paul Mescal is thanks to Normal People (I myself heard about him that way, before I got into going to the cinema and theatre more).

He explained a member of his family contracted cancer, that alongside getting covid probably led him to decide it was best to just leave.

He explained a member of his family contracted cancer, that alongside getting covid probably led him to decide it was best to just leave. Wasn’t Taron getting Covid actually a convenient way of buying him and the producers some time whilst they decided if he’d be able to return? And I think the rumours at the time suggested him leaving the production was as much to do with his stage fright as his family member’s diagnosis. Or perhaps he realised after a couple of weeks that Cock was actually a bit rubbish and couldn’t face doing it nightly for the next three months…

Does anybody know if this play with Paul Mescal was filmed at any point? And if it is on any streaming services or will be in the future?

Hello - I just wanted to ask what makes you think they will do "3 weeks in the Noel Coward in February"?

Hello - I just wanted to ask what makes you think they will do "3 weeks in the Noel Coward in February"? ATG Productions, who produce the show, have advertised a wardrobe assistant role for an unnamed West End show, directed by Rebecca Frecknall, which is running for only three weeks between 3rd and 22nd February. The only West End theatre which has those dates available is the Noel Coward.

That is a joke only running for 3 weeks, they know how to squeeze every penny out of their customers. Then I assume it will go to the Hudson Theatre for 6 months and be on TKTs every day.

Seems ok; 20 or so performance to find that zone again, feel the audience, walk the walk, presumably get a proshot done. It's not like they've been twiddling their thumbs for 18 months. Need to reset to TW time.

Paul is about to go A list with Gladiator 2, and is already well known thanks to All of us strangers, normal people and the various tabloid stories, and multiple fan accounts online. For someone with few big projects to his name, his following is already pretty large. I assume if the 3 week run is happening its a rehearsal/warm up to then go straight to broadway and save on having the whole company in nyc for rehearsals. I'd guess it's cheaper to do that here, and get some income at the same time.

I wonder if Blanche and Stella will be the same actors. I thought Paul Mescal was very good, but Patsy Feran was the standout for me.

It's going off-Broadway, just to be clear! The article is incorrect.

I hope they'll find a Blanche that looks the part.
