The Edinburgh and Brighton contests produced two of the greatest winning performances at Eurovision. Maybe something special might come out of it this time too.

We find out on Friday which cities have been shortlisted. The BBC has compiled a list of the runners and riders, and which events will have to be cancelled or postponed. It's not looking good for Magic Mike fans! BBC Eurovision list

Think they may have the contest later in May to give them a bit more time, well hope anyway as I am away until 15th!

I'm so happy it's coming to the UK, even if it's not because we won!
It's been a goal of mine to go for a long time and I did finally have tickets for 2020 which obviously didn't happen. So 2023 looks like it could finally be the year!
I reckon it's going to be Manchester, but I have no real reason to think this.

Liverpool would be nice. Birmingham just had the CWG and hosted it last time it was here, so I don't think it's their shot.
I'm going to say it's probably going to be Manchester but I think Liverpool would be nice for it.
Newcastle also a nice option, but it's a shame because they have a great new arena being built in a great location but it's not due to open until 2024, so would have to go in the existing arena.

Liverpool would be my choice, I think it's a great place for it, the only downside is that the arena is quite small in capacity compared to some of the other cities venues. However it's a great city, looks great, has lot's of culture with many nods to music history and the location of the arena is stunning. I'd be very happy for it to go there.

Sadiq was keen for London to host, but given they're not on the shortlist, I guess he couldn't persuade a venue to clear their calendar (not that London would have got it anyway)

Actually come to think of it, don't countries have to have a place confirmed already each yer in case they win? Because when a country wins don't they always say "see you in x city next year" ect? So did we not have one already penciled in somewhere?

A venue could have been found. But I am very happy that London didn't even make the shortlist. Particularly after Khan was crowing that London was the only city capable of hosting. Arrogance is never a good look.

So did we not have one already penciled in somewhere? The only time I remember a host city being announced on the night of the previous competition was when Danish TV were so confident in Malmรถ 2013 that they parked a van outside the venue saying "See you all at the at the Eurovision Song Contest Denmark 2014, 14km that way -->" Normally it's only just "See you in country X next year" as even the dates haven't been agreed for the following year at that point.

London was never in the running TBH it's more interesting that no Southern English Cities made the shortlist or that Wales didn't even get a look in.

I believe Cardiff withdrew, on the grounds that Eurovision clashed with too many events already scheduled for the Principality Stadium

I don't want it in Newcastle. Oh, the event itself would be fun. But I don't trust the council not to use it to bring in all sorts of dodgy road and transport changes 'for Eurovision' and accidentally forget to put it back.

This is going to be a very dumb question but would the EBU ever consider a pop up venue of some sort or not feasible?

This is going to be a very dumb question but would the EBU ever consider a pop up venue of some sort or not feasible? It has to be a very high quality arena...very expensive. That is the reason why no one wants to win..even the Top 5 pay only around 400.000 Euros per year...and get 3 shows...a big Saturday evening show...so in a way BBC gets decent ratings for small money But if you win...it costs 20 to 30 mio So the NDR (Germany) is playing it safe...sending only trash if they win... 8:50ff They tranformec the Dรผsseldorf stadium in 6 weeks into an arena.

Why not Wembley? The roof can be closed? Why not show the rest of Europe that after Brexit you are No1 And hosted by Adele, Ed Sheeran or other UK world stars In the audience - Will and Kate

Why not show the rest of Europe that after Brexit you are No1 And hosted by Adele, Ed Sheeran or other UK world stars In the audience - Will and Kate I believe the hosts will be Ukarnian as its their show, we are merely hosting for them as its jot possible to do in their own country. And I doubt Europeans would be able to understand Adele.
