The first trailer for the film version of 13: THE MUSICAL that is set to premiere on Netflix in August has just been released: Alongside this, they have also dropped the full version of the title track from the film (although this is far from the best song in the score to promote it): It looks good, so I am looking forward to watching it. I like 13 for the fantastic score (typical of Jason Robert Brown of course). More tracks have been released from this today, including what looks like the full 'Opportunity' scene from the film:
One of the new songs, 'I've Been Waiting' has also been released, again along with the full scene:
I like the new song. However, I think I would have preferred some of the original ones not to be cut instead.

Interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on this? Just dragged myself through it and I was sorely disappointed. What I feel is great, fun little musical was almost unrecognisable on screen. The performances all worked, however, everything else felt like a total misfire.

Watched it tonight. Very disappointing agreed, it just didn't work as a film and they've taken so many good numbers out from the stage musical.

It started quite promising with a good opening number, albeit feeling very disney channel for tweens (which I guess it essentially is). But then I just got bored, alot of unlikeable or bland characters.
The opening number and bad bad news (so relatable for many people lol) were stand out numbers.
Bur I just don't see how anyone thought this would work on broadway. Seems to have very limited appeal.

I had the massive misfortune of seeing it as one night presentation in London years ago. Jason Robert Brown was in the audience looking furious ( actually I think that may be his default expression from other photos of him I’ve seen). I thought the show was DIRE from start to finish. Rather like DEH, we are introduced to a rather unpleasant lead and from that point, I couldn’t care less about him or how many attendees make it to his bar mitzvah. Also like DEH a lot of the upbeat songs sounded like they’d been influenced by toothpaste commercials and the rest of it was schmaltz on plate. Why on Earth it’s now been made into a movie is completely incomprehensible to me.Of course if they’d gone for laughs and cast the 28 year old Ben Platt in the role of Evan, I’d be desperate to see it. As it stands, not so much. |

It played on Broadway for like three months in 2008 with a very young Ariana Grande. It was a flop but you must admire the chutzpah of the trailer for calling it a "hit Broadway musical" |

Unfortunately I'm currentLy having a problem with my TV so can't really watch anything. Even watching terrestrial TV is a struggle.

I've only seen it done by a youth theatre group but I remember thinking it had some really good stuff in it. If I can find the film anywhere I'll be interested to see how it transfers.

Didn't realise it was out as when I logged onto Netflix just now looking for something to watch there was nothing in the trending or new release section. I have just searched and eventually found it so will give it a go tonight.
Thought it would have been on the home page.

Netflix really did not want me find this.
The film itself is rather sweet, very watchable but I doubt I'll watch it again. I think if I was 13 I would of enjoyed it more.

I am clearly not the audience demographic that the musical is aimed at. It's for kids/teens. I found it a bit sickley sweet and the songs were unmemorable.
Not for me I am afraid but I did stick through it until the end.

I love Jason Robert Brown's work and I finally got to watch this last night.
I'm not familiar with the stage show so can't comment of the difference between the two but I liked it.
I too am not the demographic this show is aimed at but I enjoyed it.
Generally speaking I'm not a fan of kids performing but what I saw last night was sharp choreography and great singing.
A nice demographic in the casting choices hitting the mark on religion, ethnicity and disability
I am not Jewish however live in North West London and from the little I do know about Jewish tradition and customs I remember thinking that if I was there watching that little boy singing in Hebrew for his Bar Mitzfa that although I cannot understand what he's saying, I would have flesh that I had seen something special and be thankful for the invite.
Deborah Messing- I love her. I loved her in Will & Grace and everything I have seen her in since. And Rhea Perlman- what a surprise. I actually felt like her character needed a song.
Not the best thing I've ever seen but fun and sweet.
Hopefully they'll consider making another film musical- from the moment I saw it (I swear) that Parade is a film musical waiting to be made.

It was sweet enough but they removed too much of the edgier stuff from the stage show, nothing massively adult just some.scenes and songs that are a bit more grown-up in terms of humour and language, and the end result just felt a bit "kiddy-fied". But watchable enough.
