Anyone planning to take a ride on London's newest railway? Was originally going to have a nosey today but due to the weather being hit and miss, I've decided to delay it a few days. Looks stunning from the various videos and pics.

I'll be on it tomorrow at sometime. I already do West Drayton-Paddington and then (used to) change to the Bakerloo, usually getting off at Piccadilly Circus for my days out. Going form Paddington-TCR will make that faster, and when the line goes through direct from West Drayton to TCR later in the year, it will be incredible and cut a good 20 minutes from my journey.

Given the Elizabeth Line station at Tottenham Court Road is on Dean Street, I imagine the Soho Theatre will be an uptick in people visiting as well as the new Nimax theatre on Charing Cross Road which currently doesn't have an opening date but the building it's in looks nearly complete so I assume it'll open in the Autumn.

I'm planning on having a nosey around soon. I especially want to go to Canary Wharf station as it looks stunning deom outside. Once the line opens properly it will be so good for me when going to Cornwall. It will take about 30 mins off my current tube journey and even a few minutes off a journey to the west end. Will also be a more comfortable journey than the central line especially in the summers.

I was on it today, as it is my new commute to work from Abbey Wood to Farringdon. It has cut my journey time for 1/3 and is free for me, so save money on National Rail.
The station at Farringdon is deep and has a massive escalator, to access the Underground Station I have to exit the Lizzie Line Station cross the road and enter the Underground Station, so it is quite iconic that I am exiting the newest metro in the world, but then going on the oldest metro in the world!
The trains are reasonable comfortable, but on a hot day the air conditioning will come into itself, which Southeastern Trains don't have.
Going home soon, I will cycle to Liverpool Street.
This line is excellent for the new theatre in Woolwich.

I will be on it tomorrow as we change at Slough to get the train to Ealing Broadway for our theatre and Abba stay.

Oddly there's not a single destination I regularly go to where the Elizabeth line will make it faster - I'll have to make a special trip to see it.

I’m happy for this new infrastructure, but it would be great if the rest of the country could also have a share. Trains on my local line have recently been cut back, permanently, making it slower to get anywhere. We’re just grateful the line hasn’t been closed, so I suppose that’s our share of levelling up.

Indeed. MCR Piccadilly area will be decimated by a massive concrete train-line for HS2 because work to build an underground station would cause 'too much disruption'. London seems to have managed well enough with all of the underground works been going on. Wonder if we'll see a thread of equal excitement for the launch of Burnham's Busses...

I was trying to work out last night if it will make my journey to Heathrow from Essex quicker, and it looks like the answer is no - it’ll be much of a muchness according to the journey planner and probably slightly slower compared to timing all of the connections from train/tube/Heathrow Express perfectly so there’s no waiting time. However, once the full line is connected, it will mean only one change of train and not having to lug a suitcase up and down stairs to get to and from the tube a couple of times, which will make the journey much easier.

It's currently a train every 5 minutes but I assume that will increase slightly once everything is connected up.

The intention is for the busses to more seamlessly integrate into Transport for Greater MCR, in the same way TFL does in London, making it an easier experience for the customer. For all it's quirks Metrolink is pretty efficient so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. Looking at the current price of train tickets under franchise, I'd question the success of the greatly heralded private network. Plus I don't think I can recall a time in the last decade I've gotten a train that's A, arrived on time or B, left on time. There may well be benefits behind the scenes though.

When the buses in Manchester were de-regulated, all the companies wanted a slice of the most lucrative routes. One of them was the Oxford Road corridor to the University/Fallowfield student residences. It ended up with so many companies running 6 buses an hour on weekdays that you could hardly see any other vehicles along the road. There was a memorable morning when Piccadilly Gardens and the streets leading off to Oxford Rd and St Peter's Square got totally gridlocked.
If the buses are under TFGM control, it will ensure that this doesn't happen again and all bus routes get a decent number of services running.

The TfL model clearly works as the DfT are using it as a model for Great British Railways. It does strike me as odd that other big regions don't lobby to adopt that model for their transport.

TFGM is extremely well run, especially Metrolink which is very well managed, their project management team are great and have delivered. You mention Oxford Road and it is quite a wide road, so I am surprised at St Peter Square that the Metrolink hasn't been extended down there, towards the hospital and university, as you say it is busy with buses, so will raise revenue, to operate a tram, it will be quite environmental, than gas guzzling buses.
