Lovely lady and wonderful character actress who will be remembered for so many roles on stage and screen as well as being the perfect foil for other actors to react their performance to.
The 1987 follies production and seeing her lead the barnstorming mirror mirror number remains a theatrical highlight as well as her many TV roles especially the wonderful nurse Gladys.

One of the most enduring memories from the 1987 Follies was Lynda’s Stella Deams taking the star studded cast through their paces to Whose’s that Woman.’ At every performance raising the roof as the YouTube video clip so wonderfully captures. A truly wonderful actress who had magnificent stage presence who was equally at home in the media of television again creating roles which defined her. Rest in Peace Lynda and thank you for the memories of Stella, Belle Poitrine and Nurse Gladys to name but a few.

I was just about to post the same thing! Lynda was magnificent in Follies, like a galleon in full sail, earthy and mesmerising! My first and still the best Stella who sang and danced up a storm.

I always remember her from Open All Hours but she had a wonderfully long career. I never new she was in Yentl until I looked at her biography.

Much reminiscing now going on in this house where my three kids (now all in their 20s) were big fans of Come Outside with Auntie Mabel and Pippin the dog. Such a weird idea for a programme - the way they used to set off in a small plane to visit - for instance - a factory making teapots. I must have seen each episode many times. How nice to be remembered for such a gentle pleasurable programme. What with Shirley Hughes dying this week I feel a deep nostalgia for when my kids were small!

Come Outside was a huge part of my childhood, to the extent that I can still recall things I learned from watchhing it. That's the impact of great kids television.

Maddie the musical was the title I had to hunt down, knew I had seen her in another musical other than follies.
Must admit don't remember much about it other than she was able to vamp it up as the lady possessed with the spirit of a 1920s flapper girl who was haunting the building I think.
She seemed to spend a lot of time on a slinky gown and be fairly raunchy (more innocent age turn of the century) without being crude or over the top.
Seem to be a few clips of her singing more songs from follies on the web.
Have treated myself to the 20th anniversary cd of Maddie as a tribute to her will be interesting to hear how it fairs many years on
