I am really shocked and saddened. I read Sher's biography "Beside Myself" a couple of years ago and found it astonishingly frank. I also admired how multi-talented Sher is - he is also a gifted artist.

Really sad. I saw him in John Kani's play Kunene and the King just before lockdown, both actors were astonishing and it was a privilege to have seen them in such an intimate setting as the Ambassadors.

Very, very sad news. Anthony Sher has been one of the modern greats in terms of how he dominated a stage. I just missed out on his first breakthrough successes but finally caught him in "Titus Andronicus".
I hope he will go peacefully and Greg Doran looks after him well and copes with the impending loss. Sad.

Sad news, Sher is one of the greats and just pleased I had the opportunity to see him on the stage.
Having to make it public must be tough as it removes privacy and now we just need to give them the space they need.

This is so sad. I was lucky enough to see Richard III, the first RSC production I'd ever seen and what an introduction! I can still remember it so vividly when other plays and performances have slipped my mind. He was an extraordinary stage presence. Condolences to his partner and friends.

Really sad news. I got hooked on theatre by my parents taking me (dragging me along?) as a teenager, including Sher's Richard III, Tartuffe, Shylock, Malvolio... I feel very privileged to have seen so many of his performances.

I have a horrible feeling that it’s going to be one of ‘those’ years when we seem to lose a lot of really beloved public figures in a short space of time. Always seems to be around this time of year that it starts.

So many bold, daring performances - nothing half hearted about sher. Yep Richard III, tamburlaine, Travesties, macbeth, malvolio - thrilling just to remember them and so many more. A great loss.

Dreadful news.
It’s beyond doubt that Antony is one of our greatest actor, who graced the stage and that is why he won’t be forgotten.

The only actor I have seen on a par with his ability was Robert Stephens. Wishing the best to his husband and family.

I feel privileged to have seen him act opposite John Kani in Kunene and the King in 2019. If you can get hold of Primo on DVD, it's an astonishing tour de force by Sher in a monologue about Auschwitz.

He was a mainstay of my adult theatregoing life, from Richard III to King Lear. One of the greats and a true loss to the stage. Condolences to Greg Doran, his family and friends. RIP.
