Kai is only 26, a professional dancer with fantastic teeth- I hate him! Lol!

Which Northern woman? There are at least three! True. I mean AJ. Almost as if she is impersonating a northerner and going OTT.

She does seem to play a traditional northerner rather than an authentic one
But I suspect she can move well.

I remember seeing AJ on The Chase and getting irritated because she kept faffing about rather than just pressing the button after the question which eventually ended with her getting knocked out.

Are we all ready? A 2 hours 20 minute show for about 45 minutes of dancing. I have snacks, and may find myself turning to drink sooner rather than later.
It's Claud I feel really sorry for. She's already done a three hour show on the wireless!

She's already done a three hour show on the wireless! That is exactly why I will watch it on iPlayer in 45 minutes later! Can't really get too excited when this week appears likely to consist of a bunch of dreadful week 1 Sambas and Cha Chas. Plus I rate hardly any of the current crop of pros so I have very low expectations for choreography and technique...

That was a great week 1! Some really string couples there.

The judging was a bit odd for me. Adam Peaty was over marked for me, I'm really not sure he should be joint 2nd on that leaderboard, where as I felt that lady from Eastenders was very under marked. That guy from CBBC is too frantic for me, he really needs to calm it down and smooth it all out a bit.
I really love AJ and thought Nina gave it a great go. That women from Dragons Den gave it all the talky talk but didn't really deliver on the dance floor.

Judging and scoring, for me, has been inconsistent over the last few years. I normally ignore it and just enjoy the dancing. But it did bother me last night, perhaps because there were a lot of couples, so it was much more inconsistent. E.g Udo and Oti, who were on near the beginning did a relatively good Samba, for week 1, yet ended up near the bottom of the leaderboard behind some of the later couples, who I feel weren't as good.
And why did the judges pick up on details with some celebrities and not others? Most notably Shirley and her 'fundamentals' issue with Greg.
But lots of great dancing to enjoy over the coming weeks methinks. I like most of the couples and look forward to seeing Janette on it takes two. (Will miss Ian)
What do you think about Anton as a judge? I like him, brings a little balance to the panel.

Shirley seems to be so erratic in her marking and comments things could get controversial if she has to use her casting vote. She's certainly being hammered online for being nasty to Tess and Claudia, which in the case of the former is quite forgivable as more people need to point out what patronising drivel Tess speaks when she's not failing to deliver every "joke" they pointlessly shove in her script.

There should now be a moratorium on newsstands and flower festooned swings for at least five years.
Having just watched the couples dance, I'm not sure we then needed an immediate slow-motion replay.
Nina was, for me, the revelation of the night.

I don't know if you've seen Mel C on DWTS, but she had a black cab!
I enjoyed it, but it felt very long. I think in general some of the early couples were scored a bit lower than they might have been if they'd danced later.

Just a few thoughts on last night.
I thought that after the launch show the celebrities and their professional partners are given a couple of weeks to perfect their firs routine?
As good as he was, Rhys is too enthusiastic, nay frantic- rein the boy in!
Sara was a bit disappointing and was always a funny face Robert Webb.
I thought the lighting for Katie and Gorka's dane was just outstanding!
Given the obstacles, Rose was excellent. Wasn't it great when the whole class of 21 signed for her?
John and Johannes was really strong! Fierce!
Nina was way out of her comfort zone but wow! Did she pull it off! Well dine to her!
The more I see of her, I love Judi Love!
Given his sheer height, I though Nadiya did extremely well with the routine for Dan.
AK and Kai- talk about lifting the lid of the dance floor- 8's of the first show!
Adam Peatty- this guys is in it to win it, isn't he?
(I believe( there were two American Smooths?- every dance was completely different wasn't;t it? Very dynamic.
Despite Emma Thompson grinning from ear-to-ear, clearly enjoying herself, alas, I don't know how far Greg will go, but I'm happy to be disproven.
Anton only said Marvellous once
Bring on next week!

They have had at least 2 weeks to work on the first dance. The launch show was filmed a week ahead.
The scoring last night was mad.
AJ performed well. But there was so little jive content that it was way overmarked.
Greg was trying too hard to make an impression. He needs to relax into something like that. Again overmarked
John and Johannes gave the best performance of the night. Very sharp. Lots of content and contrast. Their 30 should have been top score of the night.
Nina did well. Adam was better than I had expected.
Lots of potential. But it was too long. They should have split it into two groups as they have in the past. Too many dances to remember.
Costumes and make up were back to normal standards after last year.

Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have both tested positive for COVID and won’t be performing this Saturday. But sounds like they will be back the week after.

Interesting that they've adopted a bye week policy similar to Dancing on Ice this year although that show was plagued with problems, they had issues with Covid but they had so many injuries that they had to curtail the show by a week.

I presume it's linked to having a shorter isolation period this time? And the fact they tested +ve the day after the show so can be back after only missing one.
Nicola and Katya's isolation ran over two shows last year.

I’ve just fast forwarded through all the filler. It was worth it for Adam Peaty’s bum waggling. AJ was also good. Everyone else? Meh.

Probably due to those 2 anti vax dancers risking the show. How so? Each couple practices in isolation from the rest. Tom has just spent 3 weeks in arena’s across the country, how many germs is that? His immune system must be at rock bottom; training in the day, an hour long sound check for McFly ‘Total Access’ fans before every show (please don’t ask me how I know this 😬) a super energetic 100 minute performance every night then getting home so he’s there to see his kids the next morning. It’d take more than a few Berocca’s to counter that fatigue!!! So highly unlikely that its anything to do with Anti-Vaxxers and far more likely a result of someone working too hard and trying to get on with their life.

I think he's probably more likely to have picked it up from his children now they're back at school than have got it from Strictly.

Bit late reporting as was away when it was broadcast so only caught up on it last night. Low marks and the beginning and high marks at the end, slightly over marked for 1st show but heading in the right direction. Really enjoyed Kai and that mouthy lady, Johannes and bake off man and whats more to say about Peatty's bum!

Here we go. 2nd show.
What's going on with Rhys' mouth? He wasn't singing along but was making some strange mouth movements. Very strange and quite distracting.
