I read that tweet more as we being the show itself and not the cast.
It is also a vague press release, possibly to tie in with the tonys the same way shows often announce us tours that never happen. Thats an awful lot of cities to be planning so soon, not even major shows do that. Unless they are thinking a world tour instead of sit down productions

Thats an awful lot of cities to be planning so soon, not even major shows do that. Unless they are thinking a world tour instead of sit down productions They could easily be selling the rights to local producers in these markets who will just duplicate. Most of these London and Broadway productions are documented and precisely staged so that they can run and be replicated in other locations without the hands on involvement of the original team. Alternatively they could just be selling the rights for new, non-replica versions, which I suspect will be the ones adapted in Korea and Russia as they tend to do their own productions after getting the rights.

Since Stage Entertainment got their mitts on this, I assume they would produce a copycat production in Russia. IIRC they had planned to open this (or another Anastasia?) in Moscow initially before going somewhere else but nothing came of it.
The countries mentioned in the press release are mostly those where Stage Entertainment is active and East Asia, where they love musicals to do with European history. German fans will lap this up, too. I'll hold out for London or Holland though where it will cost half what it costs in Germany with usually better quality.

Having spoken to the producers there is no plan in taking this to Russia or London. It's a pipe dream. They said it is selling very well because of tourists and teenage girls but they are far from happy with the creative aspect show. The set was designed cheaply incase it flopped on Broadway and could then be toured. They also are not happy with the role of Gleb and the music in general. If it is shown anywhere else expect lots of major changes, rewrites, a new book and set! It's great to continue to work on shows. Look at Love Never Dies.

I think the score is lovely, both the old and new songs. Hope they don't change it.

Saw this over the weekend. Sad to say they have missed the mark on this at so many levels. From the cheap set that looks like a touring Kenwright show rather than a new Broadway spectacle to removing Rasputin and adding the strange and badly written character of Gleb. The show was badly directed, had lots of historical and cultural innacuracies and at times with starving soviets I found it at times in bad taste (the Baricade it isn't). The projections too made me dizzy. It will sell and run for a bit - but it's an epic fail from me sadly.

Well perhaps it's just my nostalgia speaking but I really loved this. Perfectly cast, great songs (old and new) and stunning costumes.
I found it a million times more enjoyable than Aladdin, which I think is the closest thing I've seen that I can compare it to.

I really enjoyed it. The score is fab, and the production is good to look at. I think it would do even better if they just fix its tone a little bit and make Ramin's character less Javert-like.
hmm..why can't they bring it earlier..unless the writers are finally making final touches on Little Dancer before Broadway. That show is seriously lagging behind and deserves to be seen.

Well. Historical inaccuracies aside, I loved it! It's funny, entertaining and really rather touching.
The score is terrific and the deceptively simple staging is gorgeous, the projections are almost 3D, they're just so textured. The "death" of the Romanovs actually gave me goosebumps and 'Journey To The Past' when it moves from the cherry blossom to Paris is STUNNING. But not as stunning as the cast. Christy Altomore (gorgeous), Derek Klena (an absolute star) and John Bolton (hilarious) are a fabulous lead trio and their chemistry is terrific. Mary Beth Peil a wonderful Dowager Empress and Ronny Boogaloo looking FOXY as Gleb. He's starting to sound a little bit like Hugh Jackman but when he lets rip, that voice can blow you away. I mean, to be honest if he wanted to he can blo. . no too early for that.
And the costumes! It's like someone raided Elizabeth Taylor's jewellery box.
BUT if for nothing else, the show is worth seeing for John Bolton and Caroline O'Connor. Oh my. Talk about scene stealing. I'm not quite sure how many Russian Countesses were quite like Ethel Merman on a night out jacked up on one too many vodkas but it doesn't matter.
Oh and if the producers of the Broadway revival of 'My Fair Lady' are reading. Christy is your gal.

I was so unbelievably bored. Every song sounded the same to me. The scenes went on an on. The set was terrible - the projections made me cringe. I hated the direction but I suppose it might be due to the fact I'm not a huge Disney fan (I also dislike Aladdin and Lion King from an acting point of view.)
I will say the cast were talented and the costumes were gorgeous!

Saw this yesterday. I thought it was a nice show but nothing special. My friends and I came out saying it was pretty but very vanilla. However, the cast is great, not a weak link. For me the score is nice but not memorable. It's one of those I don't regret seeing but I don't need to watch it again and it won't stick in my head for long.

I saw it two weeks ago and totally agree with you. I found it to be a very enjoyable evening that nevertheless evaporated from my mind within minutes of leaving the theater. (Except for Ramin, who could never evaporate from my mind....)

With a rewrite (change Gleb), a new book and a new set this could go places as a musical. The set is basic because stage ents thought it would flop and created scenery that they could tour with!

Yea..none of this would be necessary, and none of this will happen. It's a commercial success, and quite a hit. It will run on Broadway, and will be replicated on tour. The Asian markets will love it and will franchise it all over the Far East. It's not perfect, and there are parts that are absolutely clumsy and could be better. But people forget that this was originally a cartoon with a bat that talks. Growing up watching the cartoon and loving it, I really enjoyed the stage adaptation and loved the fact that it didn't ask too much from me.

I would rather the creative wonder that is Disney’s Lion King production than to see the same musical in Kenwrights hands. My point is that it is a wonderful cartoon, had some super music but the current Broadway production is not perfect by any means. Talking bats or talking lions have nothing to do with first class production standards (or lack of them). Thriller is also a commercial success, that doesn’t mean that it is an award winning masterpiece. Anastasia could have been so much better and the producers and cast all know it!

I don't know, man. I really liked it. Visually I thought it worked well, despite the projections that were practically the set throughout the show, I thought they worked especially well during Once Upon a December where the ghosts would even fly into the audience. I also loved the Paris background during Journey to the Past.
I feel that it was really good at keeping the simplicity of the animated film but expanding it as a more family musical.
To each his own, and I hear what you are saying, nevertheless, I found it quite satisfying despite it not being the most remarkable piece of musical theatre on Broadway.

Well I loved it. I thought the projections were great and the show has got a lot of zip and heart. The death of the family gave me goosebumps and it's got a sensational lead trio. It also has a hysterical duo in John Bolton and Caroline O'Connor who would be worth the ticket price for their chemistry alone.
I have to say, I'm a fanastasia.

You've all got to watch this! A little boy sang to Christy at stage door the other night, made her emotional and actually made me shed a tear too. She offers beautiful words of encoragement to him afterward too.
