Dolly is a curious piece and has always relied on real star quality from the leads. This looks promising in that regard - just a shame the the book is relatively weak.

How long is Bette in for? If she has even one show off that box office will drop so far on a weekly basis judging by those prices haha! No pressie to the poor Understudy!

I've heard a rumour on *the other site* that the alternate will be far from a disapointment.... And they're not selling tuesday shows yet, so the guess is she'll do those nights.
I've booked for April, and cant wait!

I literally cannot wait for this. And it's got the glorious Gavin Creel in it too (who was so brilliant in 'She Loves Me').
If my grandmother wasn't a dead, alcoholic Nazi I'd sell her for a ticket.

It's rumored that Carolee Carmello is the alternate. We'll see.

I was thinking that for a limited run, this could actually work in London, but I doubt it.
Is Midler big in the UK? I suppose it could do super well just like Gypsy did.
London currently lacks any big classic revivals.

So i am terribly excited for this... but i got a text from across the pond after last nights invited dress that didn't fill me with hope.
"Production quality: Superb, Bette: Charming, but brought to fruition everyones fear that she's too old. Her voice wont last the summer."
They went into more details re missed lines, and dropped baton's - but for an invited dress i think we can forgive that.
I'm hoping they're just being a b*tchy old queen and teasing me though....

Fun fact: Bette has two dressing rooms for Hello Dolly! ... and no, I am not kidding. I love it. And why not? One of them very much could be a "working space" i.e. where she's actually get dressed and do all the changes, and the other could be a salon where she'd entertain guests or take naps. For all we know these rooms could be very small. I once got a backstage tour of the Adelphi and recall that the main star dressing room was actually very large by any standards, certainly so by London standards. It had a guest entertainment area and an actual dressing room.

It had a guest entertainment area and an actual dressing room. Off topic but the main dressing room at Drury Lane is huge. One big room with a sofa, a bed and all plus a separat make up room and toilet (one tv in the main room and another one in the make up room). But all dressing rooms I've seen on Broadway have been pretty cramped, even the main ones (the lead dressing room at the August Wilson Theatre during Jersey Boys was so narrow you could hardly get past each other without stepping on toes).
