I mean benefitted in terms of potentially an easier run to the final. I'm sure the pros have a say in the dances they get to skip (at least they did a few years ago) so they choose the ones they don't think their celeb will do as well at.
Maisie was dinged for her American Smooth, in terms of technique on a slower more controlled dance. She'd have struggled with a run of AS/rumba/waltz, which could easily have happened.
And in a normal series, Ranvir would have had to do more fast Latin before the semifinal.
In terms of learning to dance well you're right, it definitely isn't a benefit!

Has HRVY got a slight lisp? Its actually rather nice and attractive.

Thought Maisie was the best dancer on the night but it looked increasingly obvious Bill was going to win.
HRVY ended up being oddly forgettable on the night and Jamie was pointless.
So they give Oti the comedy duffer the year after she wins and she comes back to win again.
Would have preferred Maisie but a well deserved win.

One of the least memorable finals in Strictly history.
Show dances were weak. And they should have been last in the running order.
Wrong winner on so many levels. Oti should have won with Danny Mac. She got lucky last year and Bill just doesn't cut it as a dancer. He can entertain but he isn't a dancer.
HRVY can build a West End career out of this. Maisie can do what she likes on TikTok. And Jamie can do panto in Guildford.
It was not the boost I needed today

Maisie sensational audition for the West End and I wish her luck. Hrvy sweet chap Jamie should get signed up for ad campaign for something.... Bill a mature, very musical man who certainly slogged on his ‘journey’ Somehow seems the appropriate winner for this year. I enjoyed his three dances. And I bet he got the old ‘uns vote. Frankly the production team should get an award for getting this on this year.

Maybe I've just decided not to be as much of a cynic as before, but I thought that was 50% a great final. Maisie and Bill were brilliant and I voted for them both. Two fantastic showdances especially.
HRVY and Jamie might as well not have been there, both very flat.
Maisie was by far the best dancer, but Bill had it won from about week 4 so there wasn't much more she could have done. I found her far more endearing tonight than before.
So pleased for Bill and Oti, he's just joyous and she is one of the best pros the show has ever had.

I wanted Maisie based on tonight’s dances. But frankly after today’s news, this was such a tonic! Actually, the whole series has been this year. Just what we’ve needed...as someone has already said, the production team should get a BAFTA and an NTA for getting this series on this year, and making it work so well! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This has to be Oti's farewell moment. She has nothing left to do.
And one sibling on this show in any capacity is enough.
Anton should bow out as well. As should Bruno.
It is time for a big shake up.

Thoughts on this year... People kept commenting on how they hated Maisie and I realised I’d barely seen her because I was too busy looking at Gorka 😛 Bill Bailey the last bastion of tokenism after all of the BAME and LGBTQ were out. At least he’s old, right? Motsi Mabuse two years on the judging panel, Oti Mabuse two years winner... just sayin’!

I hadn't particularly enjoyed this series, though clearly it was an incredible achievement for them to even be able to make it, but I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable the final was.
Essentially it was two couples at the top of their game, Bill and Oti & Maisie and Gorka, one couple who shouldn't have been there, Jamie and Karen and one couple who were just oddly unexciting, HRVY and Janette.
Often the judges choice dances feel a bit pointless but tonight I thought you could really see the improvement from Maisie, Bill and even HRVY. Maisie's Samba in particular seemed on a different level from the first time round.
The show dances are rarely a highlight these days but I thought Bill and Maisie's were both good and both maybe slightly unexpected in style but fitted them. HRVY and Janette's by contrast was pretty predictable, what you would expect Janette to produce for anyone she got into the final. The less said about Jamie and Karen jumping around like they're on a sugar high, similar to so many of their other dances, the better.
Nice to see some high quality 10 dances in there, particularly Maisie, the only one to give us a proper Ballroom and Latin routine.
Oti really is the class act of the pros right now, as much as I like watching Gorka and Gio. She wins the series so they give her the guy who looks to be the dad dancing duffer and she comes out on top again. I'm no fan of Motsi as a judge but it's quite sweet how emotional she got when the winners were announced. Obviously Motsi being a judge has had no effect on Oti winning though I do think they have been lucky she hasn't had to deal with Oti being in the dance off given how contentious they can be.

Well that result was a bit of a surprise result. I really thought that HVY and Jeanette had it in the bag.

Can’t see how Bill puffing his chest out beats HRVY’s amazing footwork. Oh well.

Motsi Mabuse two years on the judging panel, Oti Mabuse two years winner... just sayin’! That's a pretty lazy allegation. If you actually look at the scores Motsi has given she hasn't favoured her sister. Also I doubt much of the voting public pay much attention to the judges' scores.

My other predominant thought from the final is that I want Maisie's showdance dress - she looked absolutely stunning.

This was the worst result since Louis Smith won. Although it seems fitting for the crapstorm that 2020 has been all round!

I enjoyed the final and think Bill is a worthy winner (I loved their couple's choice routine). It's not been my favourite series but I've still enjoyed watching it every week and think huge credit should go to everyone who made it happen this year. Some of the comments here (and elsewhere online) about the contestants are just plain rude. Constructive criticism about a performance is fine but name calling/personal comments are just unnecessary. Just because you can say something, doesn't mean that you should.

Well that result was a bit of a surprise result. I really thought that HVY and Jeanette had it in the bag. I can’t believe how indifferent people seemed to be to HRVY. I found him to be the best dancer with the best dances. Bill won because people liked the idea of someone unexpected being half decent, but stayed on the same level once he found his mojo. Yes Maisie was excellent too and her show dance was ace. I don’t know what kept Jamie in for so long but it was slim pickings this year.

They all got far higher scores than they deserved the whole season! 😂 Ok let me rephrase that if you must take my post that way. I am indifferent to HRVY because I thought his technique really wasn't that great, and in the final it showed. He didn't improve much. On the other hand, Maisie showed huge improvement and danced out of her skin in the final, really impressive stuff.
