"If you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."
Dear JK Rowling if you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. I do not think you think transgender are equals. I have seen many transitioning videos. Many start not being sure of themselves then become more sure of who they want to be. They are legit nice people who do not deserve to be bullied and tormented
He sounds like a man. I do not think transgender man or women are going to harm anyone , hurt anyone. I am more worried about religion than anyone from the LGBTQIA. I have seen many transitioning videos. Many start not being sure of themselves then become more sure of who they want to be. They are legit nice people who do not deserve to be bullied and tormented
JK you had many issues as a person, remember that people also have those issues and it does not make them any less of a person.
I also do not care what people do unless it affects others.
I have seen many transitioning videos. Many start not being sure of themselves then become more sure of who they want to be. They are legit nice people who do not deserve to be bullied and tormented -- I wanted to say if you are transgender I am with you
This looks more a man than I am

We should treat trans people the same as everyone else. This means not putting them in a pedestal and proclaiming they are all nice and not going to hurt anyone. Safeguarding exists and should remain to protect the vulnerable from the nasty people of the world, however they identify. No one should get a free pass.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I don't really understand what she is supposed to have said but from my understanding she asked a nuanced question about a complex issue. Of course transgender individuals deserve the same rights as everyone but perhaps to,achieve that means out of thr box thinking for us all. But to question things, to observe the grey in complex, unchartered waters is not wrong either. I am very alarmed by the increasing black and white, binary notion on opinions. As somehow who hails from a country which for a long time was governed by extreme, right wing, theocratic forces I decry it. And it is just as dangerous. How have we become so narcissistic that we cannot stomach people who may be asking about the nuance in topics or who dare to hold a different view. I have been involved with families going through the transgender procedure and it is anything but easy and rips families apart. It does not have a simple answer and is not a simple experience. And hearing celebrities just give lip service to it is actually more insulting than people questioning it.

Thing is she questions things from her enormous powerful position (14million twitter followers). She didn’t give the right of reply to the trans community. It was bullying in my view and she got called out for it.

And now she has posted an article about the toxicity within the LGBTQI Community. Nice that she has found an article to support how she feels. Shame she isn’t LGBTQI. it’s easy to bash minorities

Hey! And she has retweeted a gay man saying how scared the gay community is of this “new” trans activism! She is just a transphobe. What is her right to question trans people?

Thank goodness she is using her platform and her position - one of the very few people who doesn’t have to worry about her career being ‘cancelled’ - to air the concerns of many in much more vulnerable positions. The trans rights lobby is so vicious in attacking anyone who refuses to toe the line and even raises the slightest hint of a concern about the importance of biology to women’s sex-based rights that people really are scared to do so.
If the trans activists were willing to have a reasonable conversation about the risk inherent in changing our society so dramatically - and pretending that sexual dimorphism doesn’t exist, and that anyone who proclaims themselves a woman should be considered the same as someone born biologically female is a dramatic change - we wouldn’t be in this position.
When just saying ‘err, hang on a minute, I think there could be some unintended consequences from that, can we just consider hat for a minute?’ gets you called a transphobe, and a TERF, and told to ‘suck my girldick’, then people are going to end up very concerned indeed about the impact on biological women. Because that’s already an impact on biological women that the trans activists are causing.

I remember, as a gay man, that I wasn’t allowed to join the army I may rape the other men. It was insane. My fear is this insanity is now passed onto the trans community.
What are people’s issues with the trans community? Or is it just male to female people have issues with?

My issue is with some trans activists - very far from all, a great many trans people will tell you that of course biological sex exists and is hugely important, otherwise they wouldn’t be trans in the first place - trying to convince everyone to ignore the reality of biological sex, and change the material reality of our society to match this pretence.
My issue is with ‘gender-neutral’ bathrooms and changing rooms and hospital wards - which force men and women to share the same spaces in intimate circumstances when most would rather not, and when doing so really does put vulnerable people at risk. I say vulnerable people because although biological women are most often vulnerable in these circumstances there are of course risks for men too.
My issue is with individual - usually Male-bodied - predators taking advantage of the loopholes. People like ‘Jessica Yaniv’ suing a beautician for discrimination for refusing to wax male genitalia, and threatening others who had declined to wax male genitalia with legal action.
My issue is with Eddie Izzard ending up on a ‘all-women’ shortlist of Labour candidates.
And my issue is obviously with the huge amount of actual abuse that comes the way of anyone who raises these concerns.
Note: very little of this is actually do do with trans people themselves. It’s the wider impact of attempting to make wholesale societal changes without thinking through the possible consequences, because just mentioning them is so fraught.

So your issue is you are not allowed to say things without being attacked? This ain’t got nowt to do with the trans community. Eddie Izzard? Nowt to do with the trans community. The main argument I keep hearing is the toilet issue and that stems from transphobia

What are people’s issues with the trans community? I agree with Kathryn: the ever-expanding 'trans umbrella' and the catch-all word 'queer' now allow pretty well anyone to claim membership of this group, including - as recent years have made clear - a large number of extremely unpleasant heterosexual males, some with fetishes for dresses, lipstick and heels and who are sexually oriented towards women, use the very rapey term 'cotton ceiling' and employ the same sort of violently misogynistic language - including actual physical violence - as other men's rights activists. These are the people who seem to be driving 'trans activism'. Most women have no issues with sharing toilets with 'old school' transsexuals, pre or post op and usually sexually attracted to men, or very female-presenting, courteous transvestites. Most of us have been doing this for years. What we do object to is the loss of safe spaces, the trend driven by some trans activists to make everywhere mixed sex - these allow access to voyeurs and others with even worse intentions. To take an example relevant to this site, the Royal Court changed its toilets to unisex. It did not make any structural alterations to the stalls, so they still have open gaps through which an iphone could be slipped for filming, and an UNCCTVd main basin space where a woman could be assaulted. Signs inside the cubicles warn that thieves operate in the theatre. If you acknowledge one group comes into your theatre, not to see a play but to steal, why not understand that predatory men will use this gift you have given them for the same purposes? People have become priests, teachers, charity workers, tv presenters and scout leaders to gain access to victims - now, with the push for self ID, men don't even have to shave their beards off to claim they're female and gain access to all spaces once reserved for the safety and protection of women. A close relative was spied on in a toilet stall. I was recently sexually assaulted by a man in the women's section of a department store. A friend was assaulted in a mixed sex hospital ward. Women's concerns here are very real.

The main argument I keep hearing is the toilet issue and that stems from transphobia Eddie Izzard was allowed on an all-woman shortlist because he falls within Stonewall’s definition of ‘trans woman’, and because Labour affirmed ‘tranwomen are women’. It’s nowt to do with most individual members of the trans community, I agree. I’ve never had an issue with individual trans people I have met. It’s to do with the trans activists who adhere to the most extreme gender ideology and who are driving policy by intimidating people who question them into silence. And THAT is why it was important for JK Rowling to make the statement she has made.

Didn’t she say that people that menstruate are called women? How’s that calling out toxic trans lobbying?

Now, being a single and child-free woman does have its occasional trials - I know that because I am one - but it certainly does not make one ‘queer’!

Didn’t she say that people that menstruate are called women? How’s that calling out toxic trans lobbying? You’re okay with reducing women to bodily functions? It is dehumanising. When referencing those who suffer from testicular cancer should we call them men or ejeculators? Prostate Havers? Which is easier for the man with English as a second language, or with learning difficulties to understand when they are looking for help? As a gay man are you okay with Lesbians being told they are transphobic if they don’t accept trans women as lesbians and into their dating pool? Are you okay with Lesbians being told they can get used to penis? Are you okay with Lesbians who don’t want to get used to penis being called genital fetishists? Are you okay with the level of homophobia in the trans rights community? Are you okay with the denial of same sex attraction? I’m not. I’m also not okay with women being told to be kind and make way for men in women’s sports, toilets, changing rooms, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centres, crime stats and prisons. Not while Male violence is at its current level. Acceptance without exception and no debate have lead to Karen White and Jessica Yaniv. To lesbians and feminists receiving death threats and violence. The problem is not with the trans community, many of whom are equally appalled and upset at things that have happened in their name. The issue is with the aggressive, violent trans rights activists who rule the roost.

I agree with every word of Jaq's post.
Also a human being cannot literally change sex, and there are very many sensible and articulate transwomen and transmen who know they haven't magically become an actual biological woman or man. These are people who also are being vilified and threatened on social media by vile aggressive transactivists in the same way biological women who dare to stand up for their rights are.

Gay men are told they are racist if they do not fancy people of colour Are you okay with Lesbians being told they can get used to penis? im a gay man so im VERY used to being asked if i wish i was a woman/have i thought about a sexchange etc etc. as a lesbian im surprised u havent had this type of BS from straight people Are you okay with Lesbians who don’t want to get used to penis being called genital fetishists? if thats the worst lesbians are called......!! just ignore the idiots Are you okay with the level of homophobia in the trans rights community? i hind the homophobia, racism, transphobia and sexism within the gay community far more insidious Are you okay with the denial of same sex attraction? not really but who cares? "I’m also not okay with women being told to be kind and make way for men in women’s sports, toilets, changing rooms, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centres, crime stats and prisons. "The issue is with the aggressive, violent trans rights activists who rule the roost." and heres your problem jaqs - u refuse to use the pronoun they are requesting, the most simple and empathetic of things, then why SHOULDNT they be agressive??? i dont know. its just so depressing when u have people going through impossibly hard circumstances and they have the added pressure of people being massive jerks towards them. i sort of get the sexual assault argument but i was sexually abus ed by 3 separate people when i was a child and 2 of them were woman so i see woman as as much a danger as i do men.
if there are any trans people out there reading this you DO have allys out there and i promise i stand up for not just on theatre forums but in real life too xx

I genuinely don’t understand why toilets have to be for either men or women.
Just get rid of the urinals and have “toilets” for everyone . We are ALL people. What exactly do women actually do in the loos that they don’t want men to see? Please explain.
This is so silly in this day and age.

When I was at school, and the boys grabbed or slapped my backside in the corridor, I used to run into the girls’ loo to get away from them and cry.
I didn’t want them to see how much they’d upset me, so I needed some space to cry a bit and then clean myself back up before I had o face them again.

What about if a girl grabbed or slapped your bottom? This argument doesn’t work for me. Plus it’s a sexual assault and needs reporting.....not covering up like this. Zero tolerance, don’t make the victim be the one who thinks it’s “their fault” and they need to be strong. And I know, it’s hard to make change. But start with the actual problem.

But it was never a girl who did it. It was always the boys. Always.
And it’s not like I ‘covered it up’ - I told teachers when it happened! The problem is when you’re in a busy corridor and someone grabs you from behind and you turn around to see 10 lads and they all say ‘what?! I didn’t do anything!’ you have absolutely no way to prove who did it. We didn’t have CCTV in every corridor.
Sheesh. Victim-blame much.
This is the reality of life - we don’t live in a lovely equal society where women are not preyed on by men in myriad ways. Wish we did, but we don’t. We have to deal with the world as it is.
