Interesting. Pneumonia has a few potential causes including certain infections so I guess you can vaccinate against those.
Pretty sure you can’t be vaccinated against getting it by aspirating water, though.

I'm finding it very stressful that there are so many articles in the media saying GET YOUR BOOSTER NOW but its impossible to do so. I have an appointment for 24th which I booked over 2 weeks ago, as soon as I was allowed to. I keep checking the NHS website but there are no earlier appointments available. I'm booked to see The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House on 21st & really want to go but I'm terrified I'll catch covid doing so, as it'll be 6 months minus 2 days from when I had my 2nd jab.

The gap has been reduced to 3 months hasn't it? It’s still not available to all age groups though.

Yeah, not available to those of us in our 30's yet.

The gap has been reduced to 3 months hasn't it? Only hypothetically as they still haven't managed to sort themselves out enough to even let people in their 30s book. I know people my age who will be well past 6 months before they get boosted at this rate.

Learn something every day! Pneumococcal infection is any infection caused by bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Note that the text states very clearly "This is not a projection". It's a worst case scenario based on one set of mathematical assumptions. The best case, using a different set of assumptions, also shown in the article, shows just 12,000.

The gap has been reduced to 3 months hasn't it? In theory, but that's no help if there aren't any appointments available! I think it might be best if you cut your news consumption as it's feeding your anxiety. I don't think being unaware of the dangers would be a good idea.

Have you searched for walk in sites in your area? On the NHS website, I was due for vaccine same date as you but went to a walk in this Wednesday when three months between jabs became active I've just tried having a look & it says it says booster jabs are appointment only in Cambridgeshire. However the information online seems to be based on how the situation was a few weeks ago rather than how it is now. So I'm contemplating driving to the vaccine site on Monday where I'm booked on 24th & asking if there's any chance I can have an earlier jab.

I’m not sure why people are worried about the vaccines, they still work but much like flu, they’ll likely need to be updated every so often.
The head of Pfizer seems confident about Paxlovid not being affected by variants because it targets the protease which is needed for a virus to affect cells. For all the worries about vaccines, there does seem to no reassurance from governments about upcoming treatments that are coming on stream which I found odd.

Posts removed. Can we not post unsubstantiated comments about the efficacy of vaccines please.

Unfortunately the only centre that comes up in Cambridge is marked "No boosters". Which seems ridiculous to me when we are being repeatedly told to get boosters, but there it is.

Oh that's a shame, if you have some time Monday and your local centre is easy to get to, might be worth popping down to see if you can get booster. Can only say no and you still have your original date

I know someone who found putting in their postcode for jab sites just gave them one in another county, so they tried random postcodes further away from them and that way got offered jab sites very near them (but not particularly near the new postcodes). It does seem very much random based on where you live, I bought my booster forward as soon as the site let me but that only took 2 weeks off the six months and when I try walk in sites it says there aren't any though people tell me they've been to them. I'm limited for time so am just waiting and hoping but sometimes word of mouth nearby seems a better source of info for where the sites are than the website.
