I didn't realise you can buy vaccinations? Is that in the States?
But yes, I am fairly certain once they open up to European travel again, any places in the States that require vaccination proof and want tourist trade will soon include AZ as well, because it makes business sense to do so and it's a vaccine that has proven efficacy and is used all over the place. They don't want to reduce their income options based on a technicality.
.... At least that is what I very much hope as my NYC trips are pretty much theatre filled every evening and all matinee slots. LOL

I didn't realise you can buy vaccinations? Is that in the States? You can't yet. But the UK government has 20 million doses of the J&J on order, and no one to give it to with everyone being covered by AZ, moderna and pfizer. Sell say five million to private sector at a 4x mark up, then donate the other 15 million to poor countries. UK government doesn't lose money, population that can afford to travel gets extra dose that isn't necessary unless to appease other nations, poor countries get free vaccines. A win for everyone.

Why would you want an extra does? If we need boosters after 2 doses we shall be given them. Other countries do not require more than two jabs. Do you mean vaccine for say, visiting teams or colleges that haven't had time for jabs either here or in their own countries?

As said on the article on the previous page explains, Springsteen on Broadway is requiring an FDA approved vaccine for access, so Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson only, not for people who have had AZ, Sputnik V, CoronVac, BBIBP-CorV or the others that are still in development.

I hope this one is an exception to the rule, as far as I know other Broadway shows haven't announced the requirement for being vaccinated yet. But it brings up a very interesting issue, which I hadn't considered previously, about there potentially being a hierarchy of vaccines and just being vaccinated not being enough, but needing to be vaccinated with certain vaccines for certain activities/countries. I really hope they will sort that out because that would be hideous. I had AZ and the vast majority of my friends have, too. I seriously doubt though that the US (and other places) will want to close to the door to big portions of European tourists (and from other countries that use AZ like Canada), just because AZ isn't approved (yet?) in their country. Definitely one to keep an eye on because I am planning a two week trip to NYC for October with a fellow AZ-vaccinated person. I can't imagine other Broadway shows having such a stringent requirement, Springsteen can get away with it because there's enough fans to sell out that run who have been vaccinated within the US. You can't yet. But the UK government has 20 million doses of the J&J on order, and no one to give it to with everyone being covered by AZ, moderna and pfizer. I'm not sure it'll they sell the J&J vaccine to the private sector as I believe they want to use it as a way of vaccinated anyone who is out of the NHS system like homeless people for example but I agree they'll donate the rest to poorer countries. The Novavax vaccine I could see some doses being sold to the private sector as it's more expensive than AZ and J&J but cheaper than Pfizer and Moderna.

Because you need to be vaxxed for that but AZ doesn't count. Many of us may not want to see that but if this becomes standard policy on Broadway then you might need to get an FDA-approved vac in addition to the ones the UK NHS has given you if you're on a trip to NYC and want to see shows there.

I genuinely think (and hope!!!) that if other Broadway shows do require vaccinations for entry, they will broaden the spectrum of vaccines that are accepted, because they would cut off a big part of their tourist customer base otherwise. And whilst I am all for vaccines, I will definitely not take an unnecessary dose of one, just to get into a theatre.

I agree, I'm planning a NYC trip in the New Year and given that theatre is a large reason for the trip, I expect it to be sorted by then to allow other vaccines. If not, I'll cancel my trip. And NYC needs tourists back. So I'm not too worried now.

But do we know what multiple vaccinations do to the body? Don’t say ‘whack the virus to kingdom come’ because we do not know. It is very very silly to ask people to have more than the recommended amount of vaccine. I’m thinking pregnant woman who need to have medical advice to take one lot and other medical stuff. Not to mention the ethics of it. And I’m thinking the legality - who is going to chuck out the person with the wrong vaccine? Come on guys, this is really top grade stupidity.

Surely the legality is that if that is the theatre's policy then that is what you adhere to or you don't get in? A business can set any parameters it likes, you don't like it, you don't go there.

I wouldn't have another vaccine just to go to the theatre. But I can understand the logic behind the Springsteen show, even if I don't agree with it. For example, the Chinese vaccine, Sinovac, has had poor real-world outcomes (less than 50% protection even after two jabs) so does not provide the same level of protection as the vaccines that are approved in the UK. Same with the Russian vaccine (Sputnik?) We might think that AZ is great and Sinovac isn't and that's obvious but I can understand why theatre producers don't want to make that decision. I don't know why the FDA hasn't approved AZ compared to the others but I can understand that different vaccines have different outcomes and a theatre producer might want to delegate that decision to another body. Given the prevalance of AZ in countries who might be sending tourists to the US I expect this to be sorted before my trip, but I can understand why it's an issue at this stage as we sort things out.

A drug regulator wouldn't normally be asked to give a judgement on whether a drug or treatment is effective without also looking at any neagtive side effects but they clearly could. The problem is that persumably normally the drugs makers pays for the work and have no incentive to do so if they are going to get to make the money back through sales. The US tourist industry needs to lobby the US government to get the FDA to make that assessment on other vaccines used around the world.
It is possible we (in the UK and maybe elsewhere) might get a third jab anyway as I belive there are some studies going on into the value of mix and matching a third jab to boost immunity. Depending on the outcome of those trials and the evolution of the virus it is possible that it might be rolled out.

The prices are ludicrous. Is he with the E Street Band or on his own? I'd pay that much to see him with Max Weinberg et Al, but on his own?

It's also been on Netflix since. While it's not the same as seeing him live, I'm sure it was enough to satify many people's curiosity, especially considering the prices.

140k going to the British Grand Prix, the day “before” the new freedom day. Yet another exemption for a mass event. If the new proposed end date doesn’t happen then I do wonder why we are even bothering.

A gradual easing of restrictions should never have been advertised as a single date.

Why is the Open Air not allowed to open at full capacity?

Well it is outside so slightly different to a theatre... Still 140,000 people at a mass event! Why is the Open Air not allowed to open at full capacity? ... because the UK Gov don't give a sh*t about the arts and cultural sector, do they?!? It's different for sports! I'm seeing Carousel and the appeal is that it's OUTSIDE, even though I will be fully vaccinated by then...Doesn't make sense why they can't open full capacity - as always, it is double standards though! COME ON OLIVER - SORT YOUR ATTITUDE OUT.

140k going to the British Grand Prix, the day “before” the new freedom day. This is one of the official trial events. The British Grand Prix was cleared to have a 140,000 capacity crowd, and the Open Championship to be three-quarters full, after being added to the Government’s list of pilot events for the return of spectators. Telegraph Sport can reveal Silverstone will join the Wimbledon singles finals in being allowed to sell out for the entire weekend of July 16-18 before the new planned end to the UK’s coronavirus restrictions of July 19. The Open at Royal St George’s on July 15-18 has also been permitted to have 32,000 spectators in line with what organisers had been hoping for before ‘freedom day’ was postponed from June 21. A statement from the Open organisers the R&A read: "We can now confirm that we will be able to welcome up to 32,000 fans on each championship day of the 149th Open at Royal St George's and that this will include those existing ticketholders and hospitality guests who have already purchased tickets." The Government announced earlier this week that the Wimbledon singles finals would become the first major outdoor events since the coronavirus began to have capacity crowds. It also confirmed the Championships would begin at 50 per cent capacity and that the climax of football’s European Championship would also witness a half-full Wembley. But with grandstands able to hold 70,000 spectators and another 70,000 also able to attend, Silverstone will have the biggest crowd in the UK since the first national lockdown in March last year. As a 550-acre outdoor site, the track is the largest major sporting venue in the country, with its seats spread around a 3.6-mile track. The vast majority of the spectators who usually attend a Grand Prix weekend also travel to the circuit by car. That would avoid the prospect of thousands of spectators being crammed in together on public transport – something seen as far more likely to spread Covid-19 than a relaxation of social distancing in an outdoor grandstand. Silverstone has been selling tickets on the basis of being at capacity and Telegraph Sport has been told it is close to a sell-out. Having lost millions of pounds last year by staging back-to-back grands prix behind closed doors, it is desperate to avoid another major shortfall by being forced to cap attendance next month. Rugby league’s Challenge Cup final on July 17 and an England cricket international were also close to being added to the Government’s list of crowd pilots, which would allow them to exceed the current cap of 10,000 spectators at major outdoor events.

I know sport is important and i love watching elite events on telly but this is ridiculous. The lobbying for sport must be tremendous and that for theatre and the arts is obviously not. 140, 000 is a hell of a trial. Consider the numbers if there are outbreaks in only say 20 groups, the spread will be huge. Frankly, I am unimpressed but if we all have to lockdown from mid summer, we shall at least know why. I’m sorry LW pulled out and I understand why but in the light of this, he would have been fully entitled to open with full capacity.
