I wonder if The Show Must Go On will reschedule again or just cancel. My guess is the latter. Hairspray in April will have to be put back a month or so but looks as if my Come From Away and Joseph booking are safe.

So it seems requirements of no more mandatory masks/distancing will be needed if Nightclubs are to reopen on 21st June (it's not going to work otherwise). Very welcome news indeed if it comes off (likewise for theatres, although I assume many will reopen with distancing/mandatory masks initially in order to gear up for a bigger reopening).

The dates are subject to the data. I'd just rather they held back on saying things like 'all restrictions lifted'. I can just about deal with the lockdowns, what I can't deal with is the hope followed shortly by crushing disappointment as restrictions are extended yet again. To be (reluctantly) fair to Boris, ALW and I assume others have been campaigning for months for a date, even if it is a no earlier than date as that is still useful. E.g. Not wasting time and money in auditions, rehearsals arranging tour dates etc for shows that wouldn't be able to open. Those doing or planning refurbishments e.g. Phantom know how long they have to get it done without risking any ticket revenue as well.

Nica Burns and Sam Tutty were just on the ITV news and both sounded really positive.

it’s going to take some getting used to being around strangers again "What are all these strange bipedal creatures? They seem vaguely familiar..."

Any chance we can keep social distancing (ie stay away) for those people unable to sit in a theatre or cinema for more than 2hrs without using a phone or talking so we can all enjoy the performance and film in peace?

Having attended several social distancing performances I'm sad to say even then people still talked though shows and checked their phones. Grrrr....

When can I get my hair done? That must come before anything else. 🤪 April 12th! I'm just coming up to a year (on 28th Feb) since my last haircut...

So are we thinking that Six will reopen on May 17th and then everything else from Mid June onwards? I can’t see the Les Mis concert returning. Tina was also planning a May opening but not sure if they will do socially distanced. Jamie might also re-open in May. Come From Away has already postponed until June so I suspect they will stick to that date. Due to open on 19 June... and I of course booked for the first show 🙄 But they've not sold many tickets yet, so could easily convert the first two to socially-distanced, couldn't they?! Think I need to resign myself to a few more cancellations ... I'm a week too early with my 2021 return to theatre.

Anyone see anything about museums? Museums seems to be in step 3, May 17th at the earliest . See below from gov website: Step 3 will take place no earlier than 17 May, and at least five weeks after Step 2, following a further review of the data and the four tests. Again, the Government will announce one week in advance whether restrictions will be eased as planned. 120. In Step 3, all but the most high-risk sectors will be able to reopen. In all sectors, COVID-Secure guidance will remain in place and premises must not cater for groups larger than the legal limits. Sectors which will reopen include: a. Indoor hospitality, with no requirement for a substantial meal to be served alongside alcoholic drinks, and no curfew. The requirement to order, eat and drink while seated (‘table service’) will remain; b. Remaining outdoor entertainment, such as outdoor theatres and cinemas; c. Indoor entertainment, such as museums, cinemas and children’s play areas; d. Remaining accommodation, such as hotels, hostels and B&Bs; e. Adult indoor group sports and exercise classes; and f. Some large events, including conferences, theatre and concert performances and sports events. Controlled indoor events of up to 1,000 people or 50% of a venue’s capacity, whichever is lower, will be permitted, as will outdoor events with a capacity of either 50% or 4,000 people, whichever is lower. The Government will also make a special provision for large, outdoor, seated venues where crowds can be safely distributed, allowing up to 10,000 people or 25% of total seated capacity, whichever is lower. In addition, pilots will run as part of the Events Research Programme to examine how such events can take place without the need for social distancing using other mitigations such as testing. Lets hope everyone follows the appropriate rules while the roadmap goes through the stages so that it can all come to fruition on the dates laid out.

I suspect we're in for a tricky transition period now. Started to see it this weekend. In many respects the route out of lockdown will be led families and not the Gov - if your grandparents have been jabbed once, and increasingly twice, families have judgements to make. The vaccine is having a huge impact on transmission, as well. I understand there is a lag but, on today's data - of 18.5K hospitalised and 178 Covid deaths - it means the ratio of hospitalisation with Covid and death from Covid is now approx. 100 : 1. Even accepting a lag, that's an amazing tumble. Saw many fewer parked cars in the terraced Victorian streets of London this past weekend - 15-ish% of London-based families were going somewhere, and I suspect it involved motorways and home. Will only increase now.
I can't think there will be *passports* - the Gov won't get involved, imo. People to make their own choices individually or as families, schools will open, herd immunity will still be the goal, protect the NHS, etc, etc.

I think it will be incredibly tricky to navigate, where businesses open but a lot of people will be cautious about going out, and rightly so. We really can't say anything until April when there will be enough data to see a trend.

We have more data on this than anything in history, and in real time. All we're doing now is confirming the Israel experience, others will follow us.

The vaccinations have been a success and it has been a magnanimous feat by scientists to get a vaccine rolling so quickly, with the NHS and the Army getting vaccine into arms - this is key for us to have our precious freedom back.
Reopening of theatres will be a success.

We really can't say anything until April when there will be enough data to see a trend. I don't think for a minute that the vast majority of people will be unduly cautious. You'll see theatres packed to the rafters, hotels and campsites in popular tourist spots sold out for weeks and months on end, festivals and live sport returning with huge demand, and pubs and restaurants filled with families and friends reunited. Bring it on!

I'm not getting too optimistic just yet - I work in a school, and we're expected to be reopening to all students (we haven't been closed as we have key worker/vulnerable students in) on the 8th. It'll almost certainly have to be a staggered start based on the fact children are not allowed to return to the classroom until they return a negative test - we do not have the capacity to test more than one year group per day. I think if data shows schools are not spreading it hugely, then I think I'll feel a little bit more optimistic.

Reopening of theatres will be a success. So far. The real test will come with the follow up second dose. As they have accelerated so hard getting the first dose out to so many and opened up so many categories, with so many in the cycle now it will be hard to maintain that speed whilst simultaneously bringing those who have had jab1 back in a follow up dose at 12 weeks. I'm cautious (and dubious) about this especially as the global demand increases exponentially for access to vaccinations. They (Govnt) really run the risk of having vaccinated so many millions in the first twelve weeks between mid-December and mid-March that they are unable to follow up efficiently and then the whole house of cards tumbles just as they open the doors to society again. (will happily eat my words if they pull this off though)

We have no idea of the data on two doses, effectiveness long term etc. I hope everything turns out fir the best, but until we have that, colour me cautious.

Has anything been mentioned about masks?
It seems a sensible idea to keep the requirement for masks in non socially distanced events/venues like full theatres to mitigate the risks a little bit more.
I've not read too much only the basics so I don't know if the June date also means the end of mask wearing in general?

(will happily eat my words if they pull this off though) The head of the NHS has said that increased capacity and vaccine availability will mean they can keep administering first doses at the same rate while rolling out the second doses too. There's no reason to doubt that. If anything, the evidence points to the Government targets around vaccine rollout being designed to under-promise and over-deliver and the efficacy stats of the vaccines in preventing infection, transmission and severe disease after just one dose are fantastic. The fact that the UK has delivered more jabs in arms than the entire EU 27 combined is a phenomenal achievement for all concerned. Boris ignoring the headbangers on his backbenches and coming up with a sensible, pragmatic route out of lockdown suggests he's belatedly got the balance right and is following scientific advice. If people want to remain cautious come the summer that's entirely their prerogative but sooner or later it has to come down to a matter of personal choice rather than legal directive.

I've not read too much only the basics so I don't know if the June date also means the end of mask wearing in general? At the briefing last night Sir Patrick Vallance agreed with a comment that Anthony Fauci made about needing to wear masks as a general precaution in winter so it looks like they will also be done away with in the interim period. I don't see any negatives in continuing to wear masks in indoor spaces such as theatres/on the tube etc particularly as they have been relied upon so heavily as part of the strategy. I suppose if that was going to be required it would also have to be considered in offices and people wouldn't want to wear a mask 40 hours a week. Not that I would mind continuing to wear one in the office. If masks have an impact in line with the reliance placed on them (and the WHO seems to think they do) I would welcome continuing to be required to wear one.

I didn't see Nica Burns on ITV last night, but I did hear her talking to Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning. She was confident that most Nimax theatres would be reopening in May, if not with their resident shows, then with the type of productions she specialises in.
