Difficult this. I could just repeat my top 10 plays (new and revival) from the Best 10 Plays of the Decade thread Instead, for the direction, acting, production values combined to enhance the material I'd say - The Orphan of Zhao (2012, Swan Theatre)
- The Rover (2016, Swan Theatre)
- Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (2014, Bath)
- A Christmas Carol (2017, Old Vic)
- An Enemy of the People (2016, Chichester)
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
- This House (2013, Olivier Theatre)
- War Horse
- Peter Pan (2015, Regent's Park)
- The Caucasian Chalk Circle (2015, Unicorn)

Took me a while but current thoughts are as follows (I couldn't compare one person and immersive shows properly so a couple of short lists for those as well) -

I picked 12 - oh well, sue me! As I said with my other list in the Shakespeare thread, I feel compelled to add the disclaimer that my list would surely look very different if not for the fact that I only just started seeing theatre regularly around 2008. And I didn't start seeing plays regularly until about 2014 (as this list reflects) - though in my defense, I have seen quite an impressive number of plays in that time, if I do say so myself Anyway, without further self-aggrandizement or self-deprecation: The Glass Menagerie - West End 2017 - dir. John Tiffany King Charles III - Broadway, 2015 - Mike Bartlett/Rupert Goold Smokefall - MCC, Off-Broadway 2016 - Noah Haidle/Anne Kauffman (starring Zachary Quinto) Yerma - Young Vic 2016 - Simon Stone (starring Billie Piper) You For Me For You - Royal Court 2015 - Mia Chung/Richard Twyman An Octoroon - TFANA, Off-Broadway 2015 - Branden Jacobs-Jenkins/Sarah Benson One Man Two Guvnors - Broadway 2012 - Richard Bean/Nick Hytner (starring James Corden) Fairview - SoHo Rep, Off-Broadway 2018 - Jackie Sibblies Drury/Sarah Benson Hand to God - Broadway 2015 - Robert Askins/Moritz von Steulpnagel Pygmalion - Bedlam, Off-Broadway 2018 - dir. Eric Tucker The Elephant Man - Broadway 2014 - dir. Scott Ellis (starring Bradley Cooper) The Little Foxes - Broadway 2017 - dir. Daniel Sullivan (starring Laura Linney & Cynthia Nixon alternating roles - happy to say I saw both versions)

Just realised I picked a couple of Shakespeare productions. I should have read the title more closely!
So, swap Brook's Hamlet out and include 2016 Cleansed (Mitchell/National Theatre) Also, swap Filter Theatre's Twelfth Night out and include 2014 An Enemy of the People (Ostermeier/Schaubühne)
There. Done.

Duke of York's Theatre 2005 Yes 4, 6,9 all featured in my initial selection. All excellent. 4 and 9 both Howard Davies productions of course, what a great director he was, I nearly listed another of his - the Caryl Churchill play Softcops.

The things that stick most in my mind from over the years, and which I'd most like to see again:
Tango at the End of Winter (Alan Rickman, early 90s) The Nap (Crucible) 7 Acts of Mercy (RSC) Galileo (Young Vic) A Child's Christmas in Wales (Theatr Clwyd, mid 80s) Amadeus (Suchet touring version) Nell Gwynn (Laura Pitt Pulford version) The History Boys (Crucible version with Matthew Kelly) Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (touring regional version in the early 80s)

Almost impossible task. Hard to distinguish between the work, the production and the actors. I can't remember the theatres, all of them - so in no particular order The Weir, first production I think in a St Martins Lane theatre 1999 The Seafarer, again not sure where it was A German Life, The Bridge Arcadia, the first prod with Bill Nighy Medea, NT with Helen McCrory The Orphan of Zhao RSC The Swan ( someone else has this above) The Mysteries, The Cottesloe, again someone else has this too The Invention of Love, Stoppard, can’t remember the theatre butI think West End The Way of the World, Donmar Waiting for Godot, the McKellen, Stewart prod.

I've seen the Mysteries on YouTube, and they are fabulous! I really wish I'd seen them. That was before I started going to the theatre though.

I've seen the Mysteries on YouTube, and they are fabulous! I really wish I'd seen them. That was before I started going to the theatre though. Three different productions of Amadeus chosen - it’s a great theatrical play. The Mysteries were sensational, right from the first moment you walked into the Cottesloe, all the stalls seats removed, and it was dark except for literally hundreds of candle-lit lamps of all sorts hanging from the ceiling.
