I can't see a thread about this. I guess that's because it's only available on NBC in the US at the moment. Through a freak accident Zoey begins to see/hear people's innermost thoughts through song and dance routines. TrailerI went it thinking I might hate it. It is cheesy but the dance routines are well done and there is some terrific singing. The song styles are all over the place (this is a good thing) including a bit of opera. It's perfect viewing IMO during this tense time. |

It's just launched on E4 in the UK, it's up to episode 3 at the moment, so they're all still available On Demand if someone wants to start from the beginning.
I've watched the first two so far, and I haven't quite decided what to make of it. I agree that some of the choreography is stunning (particularly the 'revel' scene in the first episode) but I'm just not sure I like any of the characters enough to commit. I'll stick it out for a bit longer though - I have plenty of time to do so...
Still getting a bit of dissonance in that Skylar Astin, who plays Max, played Greg in the later series of the similar-in-tone 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' and I'm finding it difficult to separate the two characters...

I'm up to episode 6 and the characters are "unpacked" as the series goes on. I think they wanted to tell each person's story so have held back. The central 3-way romance bores me but the rest makes it worth it.

I'm quite enjoying it. I've never been a fan of Jane Levy, but I really like Peter Gallagher who plays her dad. I'd never heard him sing before, only knew him as a straight actor, but turns out he's played Joey in Pal Joey, Sky Masterson, Danny Zuko, Claude in Hair...

It's Glee with grownups, unchallenging and fluffy fun. Alex Newell is the best thing about it and gets all the best lines.

I'm quite enjoying it. I've never been a fan of Jane Levy, but I really like Peter Gallagher who plays her dad. I'd never heard him sing before, only knew him as a straight actor, but turns out he's played Joey in Pal Joey, Sky Masterson, Danny Zuko, Claude in Hair... I’m glad it’s not just me. He’s got a difficult job but it’s worth it. I think the script is a bit naff but the way the songs arrive is often brilliant. |

i know... i overthink some things...

Another difference is that Crazy Ex Girlfriend was all original songs (mostly comedy/satire), whereas Zoey is just cover versions of pop songs

Personally I like it BECAUSE it’s cover versions. And often interesting versions at that. It’s not a perfect programme by any means but I can’t fault both the musical choices and the way they’re handled. IMO of course. I’ll get back to you about ex gf as I haven’t seen it yet but I’m looking forward to it. |

I agree it's the adult Glee! but I really like this and deals with much more serious issues.
I also agree that the choreography is stunning. Like in this week's episode where the background IT staff broke out some sharp moves. Also the somewhat age appropriate movements of Mary Steenburgen's character.
For me Alex Newell and John Clarence Stewart make the show. She is brilliant! Lot's of throw away lines and that guy's hair in amazing!
Also good to see Skylar Astin in something outside of Pitch Perfect.
I also think it's incredibly brave of actors who may not necessarily be trained singers or dancers to be be pushing their boundaries in such a way. They may not be perfect, but the pulling it off! As I'm still stuck in the Big Brother house I watched it on catch up last night and was mightily impressed with Mary Steenbergen.
I'm kinda wondering how many Broadway faces may appear in this.
For me, these kinda shows tap into a certain audience and just keeps musicals alive and the forefront of viewers.
(Once this friggin virus passes) anything that is going to help get bums on seats in a live theatre I'm all for.

Anyone still watching this?
I'm a couple of episodes behind atm, I'm watching with my 12yr old daughter and despite being at home 24/7 we're finding it difficult to fit it in!
I'm really enjoying it, some cheesyness and US guff but also some laugh out loud moments too.
I love the big dance numbers, the cafe was perfection!

Yep I'm sticking with it. Alex Newell and Lauren Graham have enough sassy lines to keep me entertained, and Skylar Astin is adorable. Some great numbers as well. 'Fight Song' performed in sign language was particularly well done.

I trust that I'm up to date. The last episode I watched was the engagement party where everything went wrong for Zoey and Skylar Astinn sung 500 Miles.

I love Mo, and Zoey's dad.

Yes, I'm hooked on this after being doubtful at the beginning. It's so good-natured without being sickly, and I like its sense of humour. It's one of the (few) highlights of my week at the moment!
