Despite this getting a bit of a critical slating I thought it was pretty good - maybe even the most enjoyable of the bitter and cynical two handers I've seen recently and a good complement to The Sunset Limited. Performances were excellent and the sound and set design really evoked living in a tiny NYC walk up. The characters were likeable and the script dealt with themes of repression and grief and alcoholism well I thought. Ok, some of the jokes were a bit lame but to me this can make dialogue feel more natural than characters constantly firing off witty one liners.
People afterwards said they thought it was odd and slightly muddled in tone but it all flowed pretty well for me. And the £5 tickets for under 30s are great value considering how intimate the venue is and how good the seats are. Also, the toilets are through a door that forms part of the set so you can look back at the audience and imagine what it's like to star in a under-appreciated gem in a basement theatre.

So glad someone else has started a thread - and that you seem to have enjoyed this, asfound, as I hated it so hadn't the heart to be the first. Admittedly I saw a preview so took a chance, but it sounded promising and that meant I "only" paid 3.5 times as much as you did! Within a matter of minutes I knew I had made a terrible mistake but there was nothing I could do as even though I had booked an aisle seat, there is no way of leaving this auditorium discreetly as it's so small - I couldn't even check my watch for fear the actors would notice. "Lame" is exactly the word I would have used and whilst the performances were completely committed, I couldn't understand how this play could apparently have done well in the US or why anyone who had actually read the script would stage it here.

Maybe I just have terrible taste... I often find I hate things everyone else seems to love as well (Albion - middle of the road. Small Island - tedious. Midsummer Night's Dream at The Bridge - trash etc.).

I saw this play on the 18th and must admit I quite liked it. I think it was helped by a very lively set with plenty of details. The critics have panned it but I thought it was pretty okay.

Saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great performances and I found it went at a really good pace. I took a chance on it going in with no preconceived ideas and came out having had a really good evening
