When I think of John Shrapnel, I immediately think of *that* voice.
Unlikely as it seems, when he was in something at the Crucible Theatre, Stephen Fry of all people was waiting outside the Stage Door for him. Although John Shrapnel didn't look like the sort of man who was into hugs, he got one anyway...the kind you get from that great aunt you only see at family weddings.

A very good actor. I saw him many times at the RSC and elsewhere. I think I last saw him in A Number at the Young Vic with his son Lex.

Oh no, i hadnt seen that. A very good actor saw him quite a lot of things. Sadly missed his Lear at Bristol a few years back. RIP
