James Corden has just been announced as host of the 2016 Tony Awards, being broadcast on Sunday 12th June on CBS. Personally, I think James is a brilliant choice and I cannot wait to see him take the Tony Awards on. So, with this news being announced, I thought it would be a good chance to start a general discussion of predictions and so on. Already seen someone on twitter call the awards 'The Hamilton Awards' this year. www.tonyawards.com/en_US/news/articles/2016-02-02/201602021454425551330.html

I think it'll be a near-sweep. Hamiltonys 2016.

I'm really curious about the acting categories, especially in musical.

I'm hoping The color purple gets a bunch of nominations.
Interested to see what James C does, he was fun but not exactly tv friendly when he hosted the wos awards.

They should nominate Leslie Odom Jr in the Best Leading Actor in a Musical category (for which I believe he is eligible), 'cos if they nominate him in Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, then people will be forced to choose between him and Daveed Diggs, and I wouldn't fancy having to make that choice AT ALL.

In fairness, he didn't have to be TV friendly for the WOS awards as it wasn't on TV! I'm sure he and his script writers will come up with some suitable material, and some material that's close to the bone. It would be wonderful if Lin-Manuel Miranda could be involved with writing the original numbers for the awards, but wonder whether he'd be allowed as he's bound to be nominated in some acting/score/book/musical categories!

The year The Producers was nominated for everything, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick hosted the Tonys. If that wasn't considered a disqualifying conflict, I'm pretty sure they could ask Lin-Manuel Miranda to write for the show.

Corden is a good if obvious choice to host given he's CBS talent. I wouldn't be surprised if they get Stephen Colbert to present an award or do a skit.

Just 6 days to go until the nominees are announced. I haven't a clue who will win Best Musical ! Any guesses for nominations? I'm rooting for a Hamilton sweep!

Which awards to you reckon 'the musical' (do I even have to name it? ) will win?

I'm rooting for Best Musical, writing, direction, lighting, Leslie Odom Jr for lead actor, Daveed Diggs for supporting actor, Philippa Soo for lead actress, Renee Elise Goldsberry for supporting actress, and anything else anyone may want to award it. (Not asking for much, I know...)

This is extremely wishful thinking, but out of the main category's, I'm hoping Hamilton will be nomination for: Best Musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom. Jr for Leading Actor, Phillipa Soo for Leading Actress, Daveed Diggs, Anthony Ramos and Jonathan Groff for Supporting Actor and Renée Elise Goldsberry for Supporting Actress. Perhaps Chris Jackson if there's room. I know all of those won't be nominated though.

I for one root for School of Rock, particularly for Alex Brightman as Best Leading Actor.
And while I do know it won't, I personally can't see Hamilton win any Awards.

(Not asking for much, I know...) I'm rooting for Lin, thought he put so much emotion in, I was crying uncontrollably during his monologue at the end. I know Lin won't win though. Leslie's competition is Danny Burstien and Alex Brightman. As much as I'd love her to as I think she's phenomenal, I don't think Phillipa will win. That will either go to Jessie Mueller, Cynthia Eviro or Laura Benati. Daveed and Renée both have a very strong chance of winning in their respective category's.

I'm pretty flexible in my wishes though, there's only one or two I feel especially strongly about. I don't know and wouldn't want to guess what Hamilton *will* win, but I'm confident it won't be hurting for awards whatever goes down on the night. I agree that lead actress is going to be the hardest fought category, and frankly those ladies are all so brilliant that whoever wins will be a proper victory.

I actually agree with Hamilton Addict - I found Eliza the weakest of the lead roles - not Ms. Soo's fault of course, but she was easily overshadowed by the much stronger Angelica (just like in real life?) and of all the lead parts I also found that Eliza had the most typical standard musical songs to sing. So I think the Tony will probably go to Cynthia Erivo because it's just the kind of role that gets rewarded with awards.
I'm also guessing that the Best Actor Award will go to Leslie Odom Jr. because he has only this one shot (ahem), while LMM will scoop up other Tonys for Best Musical, Best Music and whatnot. Although in a perfect world, I would like to see them BOTH get the Tony, because they play off each other perfectly and couldn't be without another.
Goldsberry and Diggs should definitely get the "supporting" awards though.

Best Musical Nominees; School of Rock, Waitress, American Pyscho and….erm….I can't think of a fourth. It's a shame we don't have a Pulizter Prize Winning show this season. That'd be sure to sweep otherwise!!
