Hi all,
Heading to New York in Sept and want to see a few shows. What is the best way of getting the best deal on tickets - had a look on TKTS and Mean Girls, Beetlejuice, Moulin Rouge don't seem to be discounting any seats. Are there any other ways of getting cheaper seats, especially when good seats are looking close to $250 for a lot of shows!
BTW, need to sit relatively close to the theatre due to eyesight - anyone have any encounters with accessibility type bookings direct with the theatres?
Cheers

You definitely won't get any discounts on Moulin Rouge, but Playbill.com has discount codes for Beetlejuice and Mean Girls. I don't have any experience with access bookings, but TDF has information about theater access, as does NY Tix. Enjoy your visit!

BTW, need to sit relatively close to the theatre due to eyesight - anyone have any encounters with accessibility type bookings direct with the theatres? Cheers Yes, on a couple of trips with my former partner who was 'severely sight impaired' (the new term for blind apparently!!). Am afraid I can't be very positive especially in light of how superbly the London theatre scene caters to patrons with disabilities (in my experience anyway)
There is an organisation and a website set up to help you but when last I tried to use it (2017), I found it very hard to navigate and not terribly helpful in the end. If I recall there is a system for allocating 'access' tickets but it works months in advance, I remember trying to book for Hello Dolly about 6 months in advance and they could not offer me tickets until 5 months after our trip! Obviously that was a popular show but the ones you have mentioned above are too.
Chances are better direct at the box offices themselves, in terms of seating placement anyway but again in my experience I found the staff much less sympathetic/helpful than those in London. It may have been better if we'd taken the guide dog with us - but I don't think he'd have coped with NYC- as attempting to explain the situation with eyesight elicited blank stares, having a white stick was handy though as a visual prop. Perhaps I'm being harsh and there's a higher proportion of scamming that goes on with tickets there so they have to be extra careful but I definitely felt staff were more sceptical.
We got a discount for Present Laughter from premium rate to the next one down at the box office ($500 down to $300 for 2) but I did not see or get offered any 'companion' or 'carer' rates like we have here although have been told they do exist.
Sorry I've not been a Little Mary Sunshine have I? Hopefully others have had better experiences?

Thanks for the tips everyone, missthelma, really helpful as that was kind of my feeling from doing some initial research that actually London caters much better for those with impairments.

Today would be the wrong day to look at what's available at the TKTS Booth because most shows don't have a Monday performance. So you should check back tomorrow (and ideally all across the week to get a better idea what's available daily).
Beetlejuice is definitely discounting daily at TKTS, though if you want to be certain of a seat in the front stalls, it's probably best to go with the discount codes on Playbill and book ahead. That said, I did get a seat in the middle of Row C for Pretty Woman at TKTS in summer, but it was a single ticket and a not very popular show, while Beetlejuice has been gaining traction.
Haven't been watching Mean Girls since zero interest in that one and for Moulin Rouge, honestly, prices are absolutely eye-watering, I would just wait for it to come to London at presumably much lower prices compared to Broadway and with better Access help.

Broadway is definitely behind London on Access culture generally, though - I saw a report recently about Ink doing Broadway's first-ever touch-tour. They've been running touch-tours as standard in London for years, if not decades - not sure when they first started doing them but it's certainly more than a decade.

Out of curiousity I went looking for the site I saw a couple of years ago and found this theatreaccess.nyc/Vastly improved from what was there before and it says it's new and improved. It still does seem an unwieldy process though

I definitely felt staff were more sceptical. To give a little perspective, Disney World has withdrawn almost all the assistance it used to give access guests. Reason being the USA attitude of "exploit the system." Local real wheelchair users hiring themselves out to families who wanted to skip the lines etc. Sad, but explains the cynicism of NY theatre staff, I guess. Sadly it's not just Americans. A German guy on a German forum recommended this as a "secret trick" once - claim you can't walk well, get a wheelchair at the entrance and then skip the lines. Broadway developed the GalaPro App for smartphones that's meant to deliver closed captioning to your handheld device during the show and apparently also provides Audio Description for the blind/visually impaired. GalaPro didn't work for me when I saw Pretty Woman in April, as my phone didn't connect to the theatre's wifi, but then I also didn't bother to ask for assistance. Might be another way to help? www.galapro.com/PS: As a German it makes me laugh when people complain about bad accessibility in London or New York. German theatres don't do ANYTHING for people with special needs, whether it's captions, signing or audio description and most cinemas don't offer subtitles either, whereas in the USA cinemas are forced by law to supply a handheld caption device for cinemagoers who need assistance. Sorry, getting off my soapbox already....

Both Beetlejuice and Mean Girls are 50% off at TKTS today with a few seats available in the front stalls.
(not sure if TKTS sells front-to-back or if you can ask about your seats though)
Broadwaybox doesn't have a discount code for either of these shows. Playbill does, though I've checked their offer for Beetlejuice myself and was only offered "selected seats" which, needless to say, weren't exactly great or close to the stage, so I'll my chances at TKTS when I get there.

You can always do rush if you don’t mind waiting a bit. I rushed Mean Girls, Beetlejuice and Pretty Woman in May/June. Mean Girls and Pretty Woman were front row and Beetlejuice was somewhere around 10th row or something but clear view. All tickets were ~40$.

We saw both Beetlejuice and Mean Girls on (relatively) cheap tickets when we were in NYC last month.
For Beetlejuice, we just booked the cheapest partial view tickets direct from the theatre because we landed only a few hours before the show so didn't have time for anything else. We were row C mezzanine on the end - missed some set and a couple of entrances but most of the show is performed mainly front and centre and for the $69 each we paid we were happy. I believe they have similar seats on the end of some of the front orchestra rows as well that might be close enough for you.
For Mean Girls, we had rush seats. We were 8th and 9th in line and were given the last row of the orchestra, but I believe everyone in front of us got front row. Those were $42.50 each if I remember rightly.
