Had great fun watching the recording of a horror themed play that goes wrong for the BBC last night. Nearly four hours to record a thirty minute piece, and that was with some of the trickier stunts recorded beforehand. Great to watch some of the original team in action, but I still think the live experience can't be beaten for sheer joy. Maybe in editing the increasing delirium will come across, but the sitcom didn't seem as inventive. Interesting how an audience's laughter can betray a second take. It sounds so very different, more a triumphant laugh in having got it right, or more a smug laugh in having seen the first take go wrong. Having said all that it was a joy to watch, but i'm ready to book Mischief live again.

A trailer has just been released for this, official title is The Goes Wrong Show if somebody wants to alter the thread title. I think this is what I'm looking forward to watching most over Christmas (behind Gavin and Stacey)

Oh I thought the BBC had dumped them after that Christmas Carol thing they did went wrong. Glad that’s not the case, and will be checking this out.

I really hope the "on BBC One and iPlayer" bit at the end means they're putting them all up as a boxset from day one. In typically weird BBC scheduling they're showing episode one on Monday and episode 2 on the Friday of the following week (in the same timeslot as Coronation Street.) It sometimes feels like they don't want people to watch their shows.

I think that's because the first one is Christmas-themed, so it's being scheduled as a "Christmas special". The Friday slot will be the regular slot.

I really hope the "on BBC One and iPlayer" bit at the end means they're putting them all up as a boxset from day one. On the individual episodes' pages it says the standard "will be available shortly after broadcast" so that doesn't sound like they'll all be up at once. |

Review in Radio Times "uses canned laughter" and "One for the Mrs Brown's Boys crowd". Yet it's their pick of the day! Also does this critic live in the 50s? Cause that's when canned laughter was last used on a sitcom!

I've just re-watched the TV version of Peter Pan Goes Wrong in preparation, to remind myself how it differs from the stage version. I'd forgotten about the Teletubby. I now want to murder it all over again!

Completists who missed it may want to watch, on iPlayer, BBC Breakfast from this morning.
Three of the cast (sorry, terrible at names, but all men) were in Salford to plug the TV show, before travelling (almost) straight back to London for today's performance(s) at the Vaudeville.
Their segment started at about 8.50am, so two hours 50 minutes in. Expires tomorrow at 9.00am.

Thought that was a huge improvement on A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong. Loved drunk Santa, the songs and the meta stuff. Bodes well for the rest of the series.

I loved it. Unpretentious, silly stuff, perfect Christmas telly. I will look up the names of the cast, the drunk Santa was particularly good, not a lot for the women to do in this episode but presumably so much slapstick to be spread out over the next episodes. I did like the elf stuck in the chimney, and they really went for the smack in the face with the sack.

I enjoyed it, although I wish it could have been a bit longer - but then I say that about most Mischief! (Apart from MGW, which I would prefer to be shorter!) I think going down the keeping it simple route this time, i.e. one set & no CGI, was a good idea. The biggest issues I had with PPGW & ACCGW was that each of them towards the end abandoned the main set & in careering around rather lost the plot.
I was expecting an introduction to Vanessa but we didn't get one. I guess that means that still I'm free to assume that she could be the same-named character that Bryony played in the MGW try-outs 18 months ago, until Mischief tell us otherwise! Being someone who takes an unenthusiastic view of the fuss over Christmas, my favourite bit may have been Henry L's drunken rant against Amazon & co. near the end! Although Henry S finally being the one to get stripped down to his boxers ran it close!

Really enjoyed it tonight. I didn’t think the Christmas Carol one they did was particularly good and the concept definitely works best on stage. However this was 30 minutes of good silly fun and I laughed out loud a number of times.

Had such a brilliant laugh watching this tonight with my Mum. Just what we needed at this time of year after the year it’s been!! Big fan of the Mischief lot and I think their TV stuff works best in short half hour bursts like this. Excited for the rest of the series!

Yes, it was clearly meant to be the final episode. The "welcome back" was the initial giveaway, but the "we've had enough complaints this series" comment really made this obvious. Mischief did expect the series to broadcast this autumn, they even filmed different openings on at least one episode on the basis that it might have been broadcast over Halloween. I found this episode far stronger than PPGW and ACCGW, so I'm hopeful they've found their feet with TV now. I think the main strength here is the "we are performing it to an audience" gimmick being played - as it allows them to tap into the usual stage humour of having audience reactions rather than pretend there is no audience (which I think made CCGW suffer slightly). |

I did enjoy this but I think my enjoyment was seeing the actors I’ve seen on stage doing their thing again. Once you’ve seen that one try to fit into the red dress you’re hooked...

Finally got around to watching the 1st episode. A really funny 30 minutes of tv which I enjoyed far more than their Christmas Carol show. I’ll definitely be tuning in from the 3rd Jan for the other episodes which I hope will be just as good.

Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this, really has me looking forward to the rest of the series. I don't think their comedy translated very well to TV in the previous two shows, but this was a huge step up in quality. Really laughed out loud several times.
(Bonus points for stripping Henry Shields to his pants. If they want to make that a regular thing, like Henry Lewis being the shouty one in everything, then I'd be fine with that.)
Between the TV series, Magic Goes Wrong in the West End and Peter Pan Goes Wrong in Chester, I'll be having a Mischief-heavy January.

I’m not sure it worked. I felt I got more out of it having seen the stage shows, whereas the family didn’t quite get it. I think it works best when you can see the audience, giving it a real stage performance feel. A live TV special could work too. But when it’s pre-recorded and in a studio (even with studio audience) the whole ‘goes wrong’ concept is harder to buy into.
