I think ALW has himself admitted in interviews he'd be a lot richer if he's just stuck to composing. It would be interesting to see ALW do a new show where he's only involved in a composer capacity and have the creative decision done by someone else. In speaking to someone who was close to the Australian production of "Love Never Dies," I was told that Simon Phillips wanted ALW staying in the UK and not going to Oz until close to opening just to prevent him from interfering - that was the exact word given to me. ALW clearly tinkered with the US tour of the show, and not necessarily for the better. In the case of that show, I think he identifies a little too closely with the character of the Phantom and is unable to step back and look at the big picture outside of finances. |

Any idea if Cinderella had a particular sales problem , or just not enough seats filled for the boss's liking? Or, put another way, is it part of a bigger problem? I just ask because I added another unused theatre ticket to my collection last week at the Marlowe - covid at 1 in 17 infected without a mask in sight, is too high a risk for me and my odd endocrinology. But when I looked, the the theatre was only about 30 percent full anyway. And when i today looked at Wicked 5 days before, the next Saturday matinee was also about a third full? is this common now ? If it is do we have a bigger problem than Cinderella not being high on my to see list? I can't answer your question but there was a discussion on the radio about no-shows to things - one example they gave was the band Madness' Christmas gig - sold out but only about 1/3 full on the night. I don't know how that reflects all performances but it's a stark reminder of the ongoing effect of Covid. However it seems to be the lack of sales rather than the lack of bums on seats in Cinderella's case. In other news, I attended my first event - my son's first paid (£20!) gig as a musician. Everyone else was under 25 (I'm 60 this year) and just one mask in sight. I survived without catching anything although I spent a few nights in the spare room to protect my vulnerable wife. |

Whilst I appreciate the hurt and pain caused, especially for those making their West End/professional debuts, I do hope that none of these come to regret comments/videos made in response to this because they've been caught up in the madness of it all. I'm just not sure that someone at the start of their career, with no "clout", shaming their former (potential-)employer looks good. Sure, be angry... but they also need to remember that people like Strallen and Fletcher can afford to be this public about their outrage. They'll likely pick up fans because of it, sure, but what about potential future employers? Summer banged on quite a lot about taking a financial hit over the last couple of years with the pandemic and said she had used her savings up. I know she was in the RSC show this Xmas gone but probably hadn't worked for 18 months in between. She also talked that she had financially planned the next year and might have booked or paid for things expecting to have a decent income at her disposal. Her parents were dancers, I don't know what the Langford's clans social standing was pre Bonnie they might have been comfortable but not loaded. The girl Daisy in the video her mum spoke out more so that covered her and Summer's partner was more straight talking than Summer IMO. CHF has her online presence, book deals and likely gets sponsorships for her posts so I'd figure she wouldn't have taken such a pandemic hit as Summer financially and has greater outside earning potential. |

If I was going to be named after a season, I’d be called Autumn. Just saying! That reminded me of a joke I heard yesterday as it was Eid a few girls are called India but I've never heard of someone naming a child Pakistan or Bangladesh. |

So there's a media conspiracy afoot now? Much easier to believe than that the writer of the article actually has a different opinion to the posters on this forum... and that he might have some decency and integrity. The announcement of the closure of the show is what prompted these articles, the reviewers don't just drop in to West End musicals randomly to provide updates. |

There’s been pretty large protests before that went right past the BBC and weren’t remarked upon at all. Unless someone like Judi Dench shows up and superglues herself to one of the escalators we won’t hear about it. |

Including Carrie Hope Fletcher. Change doesn’t happen unless you put all the online (easy) moaning to some use. It’s gone awfully quiet all of a sudden hasn’t it...? |

Still no excuse for those in the industry not working today. It’s so easy to sit behind a keyboard and make the right noises but for this protest to work ALW and other producers need to see an industry galvanised and ready to act if this happens again. Shame. It’ll be old news by next week |
