And, into the mix....generally fantastic Twitter reactions each night**. Of course that's only a handful of people, but rapturous just about covers it. That's not the prevailing view of this board, and there's no accounting for taste, but it really didn't have to be this rancorous behind the scenes. Perhaps a cast's sense that they've MADE it work against the odds may be part of the friction? If I see it and think it's rubbish that would be my feeling. If I think it's pretty good, or even great, maybe the cast should be less 'up themselves'. Either way: how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. What a sour situation - a sad mess.
**I read one of the very few negative tweets a couple of days ago; a mum who felt it was mis-sold and age guidance should be upped, as children didn't know what Plastic Surgery was, and asked "is it bad?", so thought most of it went over their heads.

Both can be true, I think? 'Technical difficulties' on the Wednesday (either in addition to the 3 covids, or related to trying to rehearse around the problem) - the evening performance *did* go ahead so dance captain probably speaking out as didn't want people to think the evening was cancelled when it wasn't. Then more go down with covid Thursday, resulting in a cancelled show.
I suppose Cinderella's at a disadvantage compared to some shows as it's new - there's no pool of former cast members/touring company to call up and pull back in.

Either way, having an audience in their seats for an hour while you fart about trying to get a show together isn’t acceptable. I wonder how many had to leave at the interval or risk not being able to get home.

We had this on Broadway last night with “Moulin Rouge” also, where audience was seated and then the show was canceled. It’s completely unacceptable for that to happen and these shows(on both sides of the pond) need to figure out their testing ASAP.

So....
If at least 5 of the cast had Covid last night and performed... where does that leave the audience? Front row is reaaaaaallly close at that theatre and the ball scene mingling and facing all directions? 🤢

Presumably the audience were masked? I suppose it might not just be the cast, some of that number could be crew with covid. However if it was 5 of the cast then it's likely the rest will go down with it too, isn't it?

A court case has concluded, in which someone has been convicted of stalking a number of performers. Staggeringly CHF's victimisation was dropped form the case by the police, so she wasn't called to court - but it was the same person. A faked letter was made as if from CHF saying that she was a sex worker, and including graphic obscene content as if from her. This was sent to her, and to cast member colleagues of Les Miserables - the staged concert. This was just one of many communications to her. Many other performers were targeted by this same person, and they (or their testimony) were heard in court.
CHF says she has had counselling due to this invading and horrific experience.
So, however flaky some people may appear (not my view) even an "over sharer" like CHF may be carrying a lot more than even she chooses to share, or we know.
This case coming to a head in recent days/weeks must have been quite something to compute, alongside appearing in Cinderella, and the less than happy ship that it's been in recent weeks.

Awful. It’s no wonder she doesn’t feel comfortable appearing “as herself” in scenarios where she doesn’t have some degree of control.

It's very upsetting to see what happened to her. The poster that was sent around is truly horrible (on her IG stories). Can't even imagine what it must feel like to see someone do this to you.

Despicable. I was in tears reading about it. Whatever you may think of her, she does not deserve to have that happen. Truly horrible for all who were involved.

Made me feel sick - knowing what this creep did to CHF, her family, peers.... A similar thing happened to my family member. We got a ASBO against this psycho family who had a vendetta and mocked up business cards to imply they were a sex worker. Deeply distressing. |
