So Holly was amazing yesterday but I can't help but feel slightly bad for her - the problem is that Natasha is so perfect in the role that it is always going to feel like a downgrade. Like I said, Holly was wonderful and if Natasha hadn't spoiled the role for me, I'd be going nuts about how great Holly was. Couldn't agree more. Holly was on for Montagu when I took my friend for the first time, and although he thought she was great, I feel really sorry for him that he didn't get to experience Natasha in the role. She is just another level!

First 2nd cover tonight, and should be for the rest of the week too, Geri is on as Jean.

Saw this last week at the recommendation of many colleagues and loved it. So immensely funny and surprisingly heartfelt. This really is prime musical comedy. I was worried it would be “too British” for me as I’m from NYC but did not feel that way at all. A good musical is a good musical. Hope I can see this again in NY, but for now, the cast recording is on repeat.

Has anyone won the lottery recently? I’ve been getting “Better luck next time” emails for weeks now and can’t work out if it’s because I’ve won before or because so many more people are now in the draw. They push it quite heavily on social media so it wouldn’t surprise me.
It doesn’t matter hugely for me because I’ve already got several full price return visits booked in (my poor bank balance!) but I’m just curious as winning used to be pretty easy.

Same here - signed up right at the beginning, only won for the first time a few weeks ago (also couldn’t make it!). But seat selection wasn’t great anyway, my next visit will probably be at full price (earlier in the week)…

But seat selection wasn’t great anyway, my next visit will probably be at full price (earlier in the week)… Seems to be real luck of the draw with the lottery seat options. The first time I won they were selling for a few weeks ahead and there were lots of dress circle seats available, including Row 1. The second time around it was just a fortnight or so on sale and seats were largely upper circle ones. Incidentally, I didn't realise until recently that most of the decent seats (not that there are many at the Fortune) are held back for those on their mailing list. That'll teach me for only ever skimming my emails! Was able to secure some great front row dress circle seats for an early-week performance next month which didn't appear on the main website. Curious way of selling tickets but I suppose it rewards the die-hards.

In that case I hope with the current draws they're prioritising those who haven't already won as that only seems fair.

I finally saw this last night with one of the Monday discounted tickets (a few rows back in the Stalls).
This is a good show with a very supportive fan base. They were well behaved too. I enjoyed everything, particularly the second half, and it was fun trying to spot the musical theatre references throughout. Let's say, they do one aspect of 42nd Street better than the current tour!
The cast is excellent. 2 out of the 5 people I saw were covers, but this wouldn't be obvious. They all play such a lot of roles and are barely off the stage.
The theatre itself isn't the most comfortable. There's no real rake in the Stalls (or at least not where I was sat), so the view is always a bit obstructed. There are signs on the wall to various facilities (like the gents) which lead to a dead end. Speaking of the gents, to say they are cosy would be an understatement. There were massive queues for the ladies too. I'd recommend going before you visit the theatre if possible.
As I say, enjoyable and I would see this again at some point, but I don't feel compelled to rush back. With the current sales (and ticket prices), I predict this will run for some time.

New email sign ups seem to win… 👀 I signed up recently and won the lottery this week (first draw since entering). Saw the show a few weeks back and keen for a repeat visit via the lottery. However seats available were poor so decided to give it a miss. I didn't see I had won until a few hours after the draw so perhaps was too slow to get in if there are better seats also offered.

Extended again through to Sunday 21st April 2024. Could see this picking up an Olivier, for sure!

Delighted that my favourite show has extended yet again. I wonder if we will see cast changes at the end of the current run.
Not so delighted to see Avalon making getting a ticket for £40 even harder.

I'm very over this now - they're just making it too difficult for people to get tickets that anyone can afford so I'm done 😂
Have at it if you want to spend £100 for the worst seat in the house, or sacrifice your first born and find a leprechaun through whatever scheme they've announced this week - I'm out 😂

Sure, it's great for the people who get excellent stalls seats for below market value, but not so great for everybody else who is left paying £80 (rising to £90) for any weekend shows even if it's the worst seat in the house, and for those of us who don't live close enough to travel in mid-week for a show, there's no chance to see any of the cheaper midweek shows. That said, even a Weds show will soon be £70, which is frankly shameful to charge for the back row of any seat in any show.

Agreed, I don't really know why they're making it so difficult for people to get affordable tickets! Especially people like us who don't live near London and need to plan their travel well in advance.

Because the producers are greedy.
It's as straightforward as that.

But they end up with less money - people don't buy tickets at those prices, and new people are put off from booking.

It must be still doing very well though, or why would they extend again? We went for £39 when it first opened and got brilliant seats, but next time, although it’s a brilliant musical, I’m not sure I want to pay even £39 for an awful back row circle seat in an old rickety theatre.

I'm very over this now - they're just making it too difficult for people to get tickets that anyone can afford so I'm done 😂 I'm feeling the same after reading the latest ballot email. There's no point in me signing up because even if I win (which I probably won't, as I've only won the lottery once in the several months I've been signed up for it) I'm not prepared to book over 6 months in advance when understudy dates are certainly not being announced over 6 months in advance. I've seen the show once with the full cast & once each with the two understudies I like (Holly Sumpton in 1 of her 2 roles & Sean Carey) so that will have to do me, at least unless/until the producers move to a more reasonable ticketing strategy.

Where can I find out even a little in advance which performers will be on? I've just been the once and saw Holly Sumpton as Montagu. I thought she was great, but I've seen a lot of love for Natasha, and particularly as she's one of the creators I think it would be cool to see her performance if I'm able to go again. I'd be interested to see Holly as Jean though, and as Jak Malone was perhaps the standout performer for me as Hester and Spilsbury, it'd seem a shame not to get to see him again.

I'm not sure you can, to be honest. Having said that, Natasha has been off for several weeks after injuring her finger during the show, and she had just had a week's holiday before that, so when she does come back I expect she'll be scheduled to do all shows for a while.

Where can I find out even a little in advance which performers will be on? I'm not sure you can, to be honest. Yes, in terms of publically available information it seems to usually just be West End Covers & sometimes the various cast members tweeting on the day. Sometimes WEC tweets that someone will be on all week, but with this show that's not as helpful as with other shows given the prices rising through the week! Personally I was lucky because I saw Holly at random & then when I spoke to Sean after that performance I asked him about future dates & he told me he had a scheduled week on a few weeks later. (I do know him from seeing him in Mischief shows so it wasn't some random stranger buttonholing him & demanding info!) In terms of wanting to see Natasha, all I can think is to keep checking her Twitter & hope she tweets when she returns to the show. I can also imagine she might make a gradual return, not doing 8 shows a week immediately, so it might be safer to wait for a bit after she returns.

The cast tweet certain emojis to announce when an understudy is on. 💃🏻 is Christian 🤡 Geri 🦥 Holly 🦎 Sean Tash and Claire can both tweet 🦥, so Holly will cover who ever it comes from. 🏡 or 🏠 means on that evening. 🏘️ is tomorrow. ☀️ + 🏘️ or ☀️+🏡/🏠 means matinee. They will also be cryptic and say “this week I am reading books 1-7 of Harry Potter” along with emojis which means they are off for a week, OR could mean they are off 1st-7th. Or things like “the weather this week is meant to be 22-26 degrees”, so 22nd-26th. Do you know why they do this? Cos Avalon won’t let them announce covers 😒.

Thank you for the responses, westendfan1, Dawnstar & Matt, clearly Twitter is my best bet for any info. I love that they have an emoji code to announce who's on, I'd have never picked up on that. I remember people talking a few months ago about a particular night selling well because people were interested in the combination of folks that would be on, which made me wonder at the time if there was some schedule I just couldn't find, but clearly that's not the case. Since I have to travel from Nottingham I can't really ever book the same day or day before, but it's good to know I wasn't just missing some readily available info, and I'm sure I'll love the show just as much the next time whoever happens to be on. Good shout on keeping an eye out for Natasha's return though and seeing if she dives right back in or has a more staggered return, I'll do that.

Do you know why they do this? Cos Avalon won’t let them announce covers 😒. Given three-fifths of the cast are also members of the creative team, I'm rather surprised they don't push back against the producers & insist on being allowed to post casting information if they want to do so. I mean, it's not like the umpteenth cast of Les Mis or Phantom who are just hired to perform & would have to obey the producers.
