Standing ovation after standing ovation after standing ovation.
Amszing to see four packed levels all on their feet.
And everyone stayed until the orchestra stopped. And the ushers had a hard time getting everyone to leave.
I turned around as the band played out to see everyone on their feet and one of the ushers in the balcony trying to dry his eyes. But I’m sure everyone shed a tear. The cast certainly did after the staircase standing ovation.
Need some time to collect my thoughts, but well done to everyone for getting through the day. It can’t have been easy,

The post stairs standing ovation was so so so deserved. And to see the cast be able to come out of character with it still seeming to fit the show and not be out of place was so heartwarming. Talk about going out on a bang.

So, it was a normal show (but loud with extra applause), until the staircase. At that point, standing ovation, cast crying, lots of applause and hard to get the show going again.
Then the lines being really emphasised and applause after nearly every line, mostly (deservedly) directed at Clare Halse.
A few hecklers yelling things like “kiss her” and so the last few minutes of the show took about 20. But it didn’t detract from anything.
Even Tom Lister had to compose himself before his final number.
Full standing ovation as soon as the curtain opened to show the boys. Tom Lister gave a speech and said there would be a 42nd Street film “next year” (cryptic, did he mean the recording, but that is this year)? Bonnie and Clare got flowers.
Then the finale. Just electric. And an extra row joined the triangle at the end at the back, which I presume was the swings, covers and everyone not in the main dance. But couldn’t see them properly. Instant standing ovation, curtain and everyone stayed until the band finished.

You could also see the emotion during Sunny Side and Lullaby of Broadway; thought Claire was going to crack at one point but she held it togther beautifully.
Loved how the lines in the show towards the end echoed what we were all thinking.

Loved it loved it loved it - didn’t realise I would cry at the staircase ... but I did - the whole evening was magical and I feel sorry for those seeing it the first time who will never see this production again ...

I cried from the staircase pretty much to the end,it was so emotional seeing the cast crying too

Happier times. Two more muck ups from the matinee while I remember them.
During Shuffle, when Bert opened the wrong carriage the two girls had their bums pointing at him.
During the sequence when Peggy learns her songs, a row of girls at the back all bumped into one another and the two at the end fell over.
I’m sure there were a load more but I doubt I’ll remember any more.
And even during the final evening performance, Tom Lister was still changing things a bit. The Julian line to Dorothy became “I want to see if you know the role” (instead of “handle the role”).

Ima leave this one to you guys for now. I'm still shaking and tearing up. Four standing ovations in the last 10 minutes of the show, that can't be argued with! Just insane!
Best part of the night was the staircase of course, but also on Clare R line "wasn't she terrific" for Clare H and the entire house exploded and stood once more and stopped the show just for Clare. Incredible, just incredible.

Incomparable. The cast and crew deserved every second of applause and ovation tonight. Seeing them welling up and hearing Tom's words at the end really brought home how much it means to them. Let's hope there's plenty of future stars to come out of this show - they've given it their all for two years and it's so sad that we have to say goodbye to 42nd Street with them.
And no-one deserves it more than Clare Halse. I loved how the audience, and even the cast, started to break down the 4th wall and emphasise that all the praise directed at Peggy in the script is praise for Clare too. She is one special speck of dust.

There aren't many words good enough to describe this evening - that was just sheer musical theatre perfection, it simply cannot be better than what we witnessed tonight.
Clare Halse deserved every single cheer and every single second of all the standing ovations she got. I have no idea what anyone else on stage was doing for the last 20 minutes of the show as my eyes were glued on her. She really is the star that all those last lines that got individual cheers suggested. She is just phenomenal. I thought she held it together admirably as well throughout, and danced as well as she ever has.
The whole thing from that first cheer for the overture and the start of the curtain rising, to the huge ovation for the staircase was just brilliant. Lovely to see all the swings getting involved too. I broke at the end of the title number when all the cast were crying, and seeing them stop to take in the applause really was something. All the lines after that took on a whole new meaning.
I have to admit I could have done without the stupid "kiss her" heckling at the end, which completely ruined an absolutely perfect silence (I'm very glad Tom and Clare ignored it!) but other than that I thought the audience struck the right balance between allowing the cast to be heard and the performance to run and giving them the huge send-off they all so thoroughly deserve. And also fantastic to see everyone stay to hear the orchestra finish their slightly elongated play out music (complete with dancing from the trumpeter!) and see that curtain fall one last time.
That was a night that will live long in the memory, it was a privilege to be there. Lovely to be part of our little theatreboard section of the front row as well and to put a few more faces to names!

Tom's speech at the end about Clare was beautiful.
Saying how she really did dance until her feet fell off, would sometimes go off stage and her legs would collapse but she put in the work every minute of every day and never complained.
I was bawling like a baby at this point and throughout most of the show.
What an incredible evening that was!

That was epic! So glad I witnessed that! I have a headache with all the emotion. I agree it was a perfect balance between being ott with our reactions and showing our appreciation. I too saw the steward wiping away tears, plus being in the front row I heard the backstage staff applaud a few times. My first time seeing Bonnie, THAT is the perfect Dorothy Brock. Hope everyone is ok, can’t think of another show that will have this reaction.

It’s possible, but if he did I didn’t clock them. But there was a lot going on. Lots of overexaggerated expressions and people in different places to normal. And he must have been very used to dancing in heels as he didn’t fall over.  |

God! Such a sad closing!
Feel so fortunate as to have seen the show 3 times! I remember getting £15 front row tix for the previews and wasn’t really excited at all, I thought it would die out quickly. After the opening number I was wrong. I have memories that this show will carry forever- such a shame to see it go.
Such a shame, but that’s the beauty of theatre; shows come and go, others quickly than you like and others that stay past their welcome...
Beautiful show, unforgettable.

Wow. Wow. Wow.
What an incredible closing night, first time seeing Bonnie and I thought she was great especially in Boulevard Of Broken dreams, Clare Halse amazing as usual, so happy she got all the praise and recognition she deserved after the staircase and during Tom Lister's speech! I still think the staircase section is easily the best choreography I've ever seen on stage and I love the build up to it!! So sad that it's over but so happy I was there to witness the end. The cast deserved every standing ovation a thousand times over!
Also, never noticed it before but during shadows Dorothy's silhouette on the white curtain could have easily been Madame Morrible from Wicked with that wig and all those feathers!

I know most of us have complained at the injustice of Clare not getting the final bow but the show tonight was like one long extra special final bow.
