What's rude about congratulating you on being considerate of others, not leaping to your feet and selfishly blocking the view of people behind you?

Well firstly, you said "for once", implying this member is never considerate which, having met him in person I strongly disagree with. Don't get personal, it's not cute. Secondly, if someone enjoys a performance, and it is a curtian call, let them stand. I've been at this show when people stand from the moment the Ensemble bow and I don't give a damn, it's lovely to see people appreciate theatre and performances. If you don't enjoy it, don't go. This is theatre and if someone standing at the end is an issue for you, realise there is potential at every show for this to happen. Either sit at the front, leave before the curtian call when the lights go down or don't go at all. It's that simple.

I hesitate to get involved in this standing ovation discussion but I find that "once upon a time back in the old days" a standing ovation was very rare in Britain although for something truly extraordinary it did happen. Now I find that the audience stand at everything. I cannot remember a performance in recent theatre going when the majority of the audience have not stood. I stand only occasionally - 42nd St (back on topic) was one of those occasions!

Daniel - don't give him what he wants...if you ignore him, maybe he'll go away and change his screen name back to parsley

Anyway I think we’ve done the standing thing to death now haven’t we.
I saw the matinee on saturday. Bonnie is fantastic, so funny. I was laughing out loud. Didn’t get that with Sheena! Liam Wrate was excellent as Billy Lawler. I think all of the other principles were the same as the first two times I saw it, with the exception of Pat Denning who was extremely handsome. I don’t think it was Matthew Goodgame from the pic on the website.

That would be the lovely Philip Bertioli - who is first cover for both Pat Denning and Billy Lawler.
Here when he went on as Pat while Sheena Easton was playing Dorothy Brock

I wonder how many blisters Clare Halse has
Very impressive that she has stayed for the entire run, with a show that demands so much
Love her!

It all depends on cast availability and I'm guessing both Matthew and Alyn were off. I've seen it happen before when I saw Dylan as Billy while Philip was Pat. I'm sure Philip was the only person able to play Pat which is why Liam was on.

Did I say on here, last time I went, they had so little amount of people in the Ensemble, they had no male Ensemble for the two gangsters in the 42nd Street number? Alyn had to split his Mac track to do just the gangster bit, and he did it alone, with no second gangster. So if he was off too, there would of been no gangsters. 😂😂
I noticed two key male Ensemble Philip and Ryan were off, with Ryan being one of the regular gangsters anyway, but it was very interesting to see haha.

The next three performances will have Hannah as Peggy. Seems scheduled for them to say Clare won't be on tomorrow as well.

Yes, exactly the same when I saw this about three weeks ago (think I posted at the time). I presume they'd have had to cover that role as it's integral to the number making sense. On a positive (and unrelated) note, I notice the gunshot has got much quieter in the past few months (and sometimes there is no sound at all).

I've wondered for the longest time what they do just before that curtian rises, glad they have released this video!

I was so fortunate to see this and it is a real shame if it doesn't happen every night . I loved the show, once I accepted that it didn't really have a great narrative and was just a frothy but perfect for the West End musical about dancing and the theatre. Bonnie is incredible and I cannot even begin to imagine Lulu and Sheena Easton in that role. It needs someone with musical theatre talent to show off Dorothy's lack of dancing ability but it really is Peggy's story and Clare's charisma and talent reminded me of seeing Charlie Stemp in Half a Sixpence.

Isn’t it a shame that this never got filmed for cinema broadcast? It could be fabulous on the big screen but I guess time is running out now. Presumably it’s a very complicated issue around rights etc. Even if it does tour it’s bever going to be as big and spectacular as it is now.

Watching Loose Women this afternoon, very emotional interview with Barbra Windsor's husband Scott about her Alzheimer's, but he did mention about Barbra, himself, Jake Wood (Max in EastEnders) and Jake's wife paying a visit to 42nd Street last week, for a matinee. Apparently when she came into the theatre one person saw her and waved, and then everyone began waving at her and saying hello. Then in the interval, she was chatting to everyone saying how much she was loving it, how it was just like the old days with all the tap dancing, she was dancing down the aisle making everyone smile. I know this isn't about the show itself, but it's lovely to hear about a legend who is in the middle of this horrible disease going to the theatre, enjoying herself and being embraced by the public in such a lovely way so thought I'd share.
