Which is what "The Other Palace Theatre" was all about, and now isn't so much. There's more to it than just cash. I'd make a huge case for the lack of music education for the vast majority, meaning many will never be in a position to even think about writing a musical as they will never have the basic skills. So very true. ALW has been putting efforts into emphasizing the importance of music education, as detailed on the doc that went out around the time of his autobiography release. That said, looking at the listings of new musicals produced July/August on MTN for 2018, there are over 60 productions of new musicals in that 2 month period! Granted the vast majority are playing Edinburgh Fringe, but you can't say there's a lack of new content. Lack of investment I'd assume. A large percentage are crowdfunded to get to the Fringe and costs to mount the shows in London will inherently be more expensive.
There was one stand out I saw up there which I think (as part of the predictions) will get some sort of life in London (be it short or long remains to be seen) and that's My Left/Right Foot.

Having just read the article, I hope (finances permitting), some of the fringe theatres either in London or in the regions take a punt on some of these. You never know, there could potentially be some really great shows in that list.

And to get some bookings at the Savoy tickets will probably go on sale on that day aswell there was loads of people brining this show up at West End live when I was there in June so perhaps Mean Girls will be here sooner than we think:). I f the show opens in Feb like Waitress perfect timing with award season aswell. Plus Anastasia will probably go into the SHAFTESBURY after the referbishment 😊😊😊 only time will tell ...

I don’t know why everyone is going on about Anastasia (with it’s horrible book, marble fake projecting set and Americanisation) my broadway producer friend says it’s not coming over at all. Gosh I loved the cartoon so much... the Broadway show is a total dud in comparison.

I was wondering would Disney consider moving the Lion King to the queens and put Frozen in the Lyceum instead and Moulin Rouge could go into the Drury lane If I hazard a guess, I would say you are very young?

I haven't heard of anything as crazy as The Lion King moving to the Queens for a long time. If it was somehow to move (which I doubt), it would be somewhere of a similar size.
I'll bet my house on Frozen being at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, especially with the timing of the refurb and Frozen 2 coming out Christmas 2019. I could only see Moulin Rouge playing at somewhere like the Theatre Royal or The Palladium but that's probably a good few years away yet.

So many people 'in the know' have told me about Frozen going into the Lane after the refurb. Although it seems highly likely to me, I still think everyone is just spreading the rumour!

Sorry, that article seems questionable or rather, typical producers' warble.
" starting with Spain and Germany, followed by Holland, Korea, and Japan."
Spain, Germany and Holland are all Stage Entertainment, who are co-producers. As they also own theatres in France, Italy and Moscow (now THAT would be interesting), they are probably aiming to take it there. They are the McDonalds of continental European musical theatre.
Korea and Japan, no offense, are crazy for schmaltzy historical European shows, they gobble up the Eurotrash from Vienna, adore Frank Wildhorn, etc.
So while both areas are valid targets, it doesn't spell massive demand worldwide and whether the show will be a success anywhere remains to be seen. London with its vast choice of shows and more sophisticated theatre-going audience will definitely be a much harder nut to crack. Still, thanks for linking the article, means I can now lean back and wait for the Dutch production to arrive which will cost half as much as the German one and gets me a weekend on the beach in the bargain.

Basically the producers know the standard of the show - you are 100 percent right to say the cheesy European and Asian audiences will love it. In its current form/set/book it will flop on the West End and is only alive on Broadway BECAUSE of the love of the film NOT because of the love of the musical. If they knew it was going to be such a success, my spy tells me they would have spent much more money on a better set instead of the stationary tourable marble palace effort they have currently.

I think what we know for certain is we don't know anything. I don't recall anyone saying that Waitress was going to The Adelphi before this announcement, in fact it was said that Mary Poppins was going there for sure!
I don't recall anyone was saying about Come From Away before that happened either.
I'm not saying there aren't people that are in the know but clearly these things are very fluid so i'd say that pretty much anything is speculation until it's announced.
It's fun doing that speculation though.

I could only see Moulin Rouge playing at somewhere like the Theatre Royal or The Palladium but that's probably a good few years away yet. It's not a big show. The stage itself is rather average size or even below average. It's lavish show, but it's not big and wide scope as 42nd Street or King & I.

This is more an observation than a prediction, but as has been posted in the Strictly Ballroom thread, it has only extended by one week which makes it seem likely it will close end of October.
Some ideas for a run prior to another show going in: Dusty - got great word on tour and we site says to sign up for London and additional touring dates. An Officer and a Gentleman - current tour finishes 15 September so dates work well. Cilla - currently booking to December 1st on tour so not quite so good on the dates, but again it got pretty strong word of mouth on tour.
