As the board just tweeted about this, and as I just started a re-watch. And as KMP (as she will henceforth be known) is gracing the West End stage, it's damn time we had a Smash thread around here.
Firstly, obviously #JusticeForIvy
Secondly let's talk about this utter trash fest but glorious tv show.
I only discovered it for the first time last year. And I am utterly in love. I know it's awful and ridiculous in some ways, but also it's a beautiful hymn to a love of theatre and Broadway.
Also Julian Ovenden is JFK and that is frankly the most inspired casting I've seen in a long time.

I am going to offend so many people.....but i preferred season two....LOL
Mainly because of Jeremy Jordan, it has to be said, but some of the Hit List songs were just more my cup of tea. And i only just remembered today when i was going over some of the song credits that Pasek & Paul wrote a few of them, which makes sense.

SO many people told me I'd hate the Rent allusions too, but actually I found them genuinely moving. Also they got me with their bait and twist on that plot point too. So badly. I still cannot stop listening to the full cast 'Broadway here I come' Also Jezza. Also Jack Davenport...I'd be his Marilyn any day of the week.

Yesss started this the week before Christmas as I got the boxset for my birthday, halfway through season 2 and I am really enjoying it! Sad I haven't got that many episodes left but will definitely be a series I re-watch! Megan Hilty is brilliant! I am team Ivy all the way!

I loved Smash! Definitely team Ivy and I also much preferred series 2. The final episode was fab, they just had so much fun with it - shame it was cancelled but they went out with jazz hands!

Loved this show. Mostly for being a show about Broadway and musicals without turning into Glee, and also for introducing me to Jeremy Jordan and Megan Hilty.
I didn't always love every plotline (I now fast-forward all of the Sean Hayes stuff, Season 2 I think) but I had enough elements to usually make it a great watch. Strong women and handsome men belting great songs, it's pretty much all I need in a TV show.
Also, Bombshell and Hit List are both too good to not be made into properly staged productions one day. I know there have been concerts and rumours of things happening but I hope they both happen as fully realised theatrical pieces, as the music is so good.

Watched both seasons twice. Adore it so much and was gutted it didn’t continue.

Strong women, Eileen throwing drinks in her ex-husband's face, Debra Messing's scarves...I mean what's not to love?
It's cheesy as all hell (much like the show) but watching it also reminded me of why, as a teenager I fell in love with Broadway and musicals. Yes it's all ridiculous and none of it is 'real' (which is, from what I gather the main complaint about it) but I don't want Broadway to be real, I want it to be fantasy...with women throwing drinks in men's faces now and then.
But it also had some brilliant music. Far more memorable than many actual new musicals in recent years...bring me Bombshell on Broadway please?

I remember my friend sent me a clip of Don’t Forget Me (Hilty, of course!) and told me to watch it - I immediately went out and bought both seasons on DVD and binged it over the following week. Yes, at times it was basically just adult Glee, but it was glorious. I’m #TeamIvy all the way.
I actually preferred season 1, but I think that’s just because I like the Bombshell music more than Hit List (I’m a sucker for some Shaiman and Wittman). I got embarrassingly emotional at the end of season 2, though. Some of my highlights are actually the duets - especially Hilty and KMP together, like That’s Life and Big Finish.
Also I want that musical version of Liaisons please.

Adored Smash, esp. season 2. And I am not ashamed to admit that one of my morning alarms wakes me up with “Let me be your star”!
And I still tear up when I hear “second hand white baby grand”

For me it's "The Right Regrets". I own both DVD sets and I'm afraid I do watch partly for the eyeroll factor (because I don't spend enough time rolling my eyes at the news), but that song gets me every time.

I really loved this show. The annoying thing is that had they waited a year or two to make it, it would have been the perfect show for a platform like Netflix and probably would have lasted quite a few seasons in comparison. I often think that the concept is solid enough for a reboot - Angelica Huston’s character could easily work on a new show with new backers, new writers, actors etc... who knows. I’d love to see another go at something similar though.

How peculiar, I'm sure I remember there being a thread or discussion about Smash on here previously, ah well. Only watched S1 - enjoyed the Shaiman/Wittman soundtrack more so than the series. Still enjoyed it but not enough to have a burning desire to watch S2, although I will do as some point. Very much in the 'Why isn't Bombshell on Broadway, lets make a petition' camp.

I know I'm in the minority but I much prefer KMP's version of Don't Forget Me.
I would love to watch season 1 again, but until someone can find a way to erase Ellis from it, I can't. I keep throwing heavy things at the tv whenever he's on the screen. His character was horrendous.

His character was horrendous. It's a double whammy: the writing for the character is awful - really, REALLY awful - AND Jaime Cepero's acting career is one of the universe's great unsolvable mysteries.

#TeamIvy Oh thank you for all the great memories! I remember watching it years ago and discussing it at length with my friend after every episode. There are so many great songs in that show, so many memorable performances. I was always obsessing about "20th Century Fox Mambo" or "Don't say yes until I finish talking" (and a little bit "Thousand and one night"). Megan Hilty was an absolute star of this show and it was always easier for me to relate to her, rather than KMP (I love these letters!) although Ivy could be seen as the villain of the show. I wish would get a rewrite of Season 2, so it can continue into Seasons 3, etc...

Judge me all you want but there is something HOT about Borle in “Don’t Say Yes...”
Ok just in general. I don’t have a problem you have a problem.

I keep throwing heavy things at the tv whenever he's on the screen. His character was horrendous. I was at the Bombshell concert in New York, and he was in that. Well, I say 'in' it. He walked across the stage carrying something, to resounding (basically good natured) "Boo, hiss" etc, then walked off. That was it.

Most underrated song on the Bombshell score is Lexington and 52nd Street. Will Chase really delivers on this.

I had to go and dig this one out. And this one
The choreography in this was always a thing of joy too- proper Broadway old-school. Loved it.
Also can we talk about the 'will William Shakespeare get it on with Aaron Burr' situation when you re-watch it now?
