Best Actor in a Musical - Andy Karl for Groundhog Day Well I do love me some Mr K but what a shame for him to win in the year that the Oliviers became the theatre equivalent of the Inside Soap Awards. I'm guessing DJ14 is currently rampaging through Covent Garden following the snubs for Victoria H-B and Emma Williams?

For me the show I hope that gets awards is our ladies of perpetual succour. I really liked that show and will probably see it in the west end. It could easily win for comedy but supporting actress has lots of great competition. Harry Potter will defiantly take a lot of awards. I really hope Groundhog Day wins a lot a well but I feel that as it was quite a while ago it might not. I think actress will be Amber Riley and actor any Karl For play it will be Ian mckellen but actress either Glenda Jackson or Billie piper New play will be Harry Potter and revival the glass menagerie New musical will either be dreamgirls or Groundhog Day and revival Jesus Christ superstar Quite chuffed that most of my predictions were correct. Can't wait to watch the ceremony on Tuesday as I have only looked at winners on social media. I think Harry Potter did not deserve to win in all those categories but in most part the winners seem right

Question for the more knowledgable people out there...presuming that Groundhog Day will return to London next year - has there ever been a show open in London that's already won Best Play/Musical?

wasn't there always a live performance show in covent garden? this year not? No because they got rid of the audience award.

I'm pleased for Groundhog Day, Andy Karl & Rebecca Trehearn. Other than that, not so much. I find it hard to believe Harry Potter was really that good in that many categories. Everyone else in the play categories (apart from Billie Piper) must have been wondering why they bothered to turn up. Though I guess they get free food & drink!
I wonder if the Groundhog Day producers are now wondering if they should have gone for the West End first rather than Broadway. With no definite London transfer announced yet they can't take advantage of the Oliviers publicity in advance West End ticket sales. Meanwhile, the general public in America probably pay little attention to a British award.

Very happy re Groundhog Day, Andy Karl and Rebecca Trehearn... mildly depressed but not surprised by the Potter dominance, deserved in some of the technical awards, questionable in the performance categories (except Supporting Actor perhaps). But my main takeaway is the dreadful Magic radio duo - so patronising and woefully under-prepared. Final comment re Groundhog Day winning: "I'm very surprised... I haven't seen it though." Says it all really!

Very happy with the results for the musical categories, especially the wins for Groundhog Day. I personally would've picked Glenn Close for best actress, but from what I've heard Amber is a very worthy winner. Still very annoyed that Andrew Wright wasn't even nominated for his Choreo in Half a Sixpence.

It was just the same 2/3 shows on rotation. and one show getting all the awards because it is just hyping atm is not pointless? (next year same thing with another show) and i loved the performances from Covent Garden, now it is just dead boring

what? that was it? is there no "best musical" award? only best new one? There's Best New Musical and Best Musical Revival. Not sure what else they could do, unless you want to see Tim Minchin and Andrew Lloyd Webber arm-wrestling..

Question for the more knowledgable people out there...presuming that Groundhog Day will return to London next year - has there ever been a show open in London that's already won Best Play/Musical? Well the Old Vic is officially a West End Venue so it would be a return engagement. Poppy won afterr being at the Barbican in the early eighties before its transfer. Sunday In the Park With George, Honk and Caroline or Change all played at the NT and never had a West End transfer.
