I read this earlier, and between the lines they’re saying the two previously announced songs are being pushed back to a 2019 release. Which doesn’t bother me, but could point to them wanting to work on a whole album before releasing them. Exciting times ahead for ABBA fans, regardless of how many songs we get (unless of course the entire idea of any songs being released is dropped).
I’m not 100% they’ll never perform though. I believe they believe that though.

The reason for postponement is that the Abbatars for the tour have technical problems and they want to perfect them before issuing any new material. But the hold up may have inspired them to go back to the studio, as the two completed songs were recorded last year, so Bjorn saying there might be more probably means more songs were recorded over the last few months.

I think it’s brilliant news. I vote Encore as the album name!

The new album will certainly be of huge interest, the fact that the planned couple have now expanded into a full album is great news. Benny and Bjorn have kept a tight rein on the Abba brand over the years and now with the ladies back in the fold, I feel that if the new material wasn't up to scratch they wouldn't consider releasing it.
Any major tours may be less likely given they haven't played together for over 35 years and that Agnetha in particular has kept a much lower profile over recent years. But we may be lucky and get some select live dates - Wembley Stadium, Hyde Park spring to mind or at the very least a live TV special of new and classic songs.

I don't think we will get any live performances but to get the new songs is certainly a bonus that fans never thought possible.

Weren’t they planning some touring production with holograms or something?

They did a Roy Orbison hologram type tour if I recall, think they may have done an Elvis one too which would make sense.

I think this is a far more complex deal than those done with Roy Orbison and Elvis. Not entirely sure what it will involve but it has been worked on for a couple of years now . That is one of the reasons for the delay in releasing the new material and may be one whay more new songs have been recorded.

From media reports it looks like we could be saying Thankyou For The Music in 2021 with Bjorn in an interview suggesting that the long-awaited new ABBA songs could be released next year. With potentially 5 new songs being released. He did mention that due to technical difficulties and then the COVID19 pandemic, the release of the songs had to be put back. As a big ABBA fan, I really hope this release happens and that we get some really great songs from the group. metro.co.uk/2020/07/21/abba-release-five-new-songs-next-year-70s-13019640/

Bjorn has confirmed that five new songs will be featured as part of a hologram tour in 2021. You know what? When this was announced three years ago I was ecstatic, but the constant promising and teasing with not even a glimpse of the music has made my enthusiasm dwindle. How much would it cheer up the world right now if just one new ABBA song was released?

haha! The excitement of the OP is so cute and also reminds me it has been a while since this post. So just meant to resurrect it for the excitement quotient

Benny Andersson's publicist Gorel was insistent that only two songs had been completed in her most recent interview. She's usually the most reliable source of information.

Apparently of the original songs released, one is sung by each of the females as lead.

I adore ABBA but bloody hell either release the new songs or don't, been so many years for five tracks!

Only ABBA could get me to click a Daily Mail article. And I'll believe it when I hear it!

There's also this interview from a few weeks ago on BBC Breakfast.
