Just wondering if anyone has sat in the seats the website says are partial restricted view because of the band? Stalls D 1-5 for example.
Looked on seatplan but nonthing from this show yet by the look of it! Just wondering how bad it is as an obstruction.

Also B16 & B17 in the stalls are marked restricted, does anyone know why as the seats next to them are top price!

With this being in the round, I’d be grateful for any advice on which side / end to sit or avoid. Thanks in advance!

Mike Faist is by some measure the best thing about the production which otherwise is a non-starter. Early reviews range from 2 stars (Independent), to 3 (Telegraph), to 4 (Theatre Weekly), to 5 (incomprehensible gush from Broadwayworld.com)
I have a funny feeling it will be a tough sell.

The Daily Mail did not like the play, calling it a snooze fest: www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12101103/amp/Steamy-cowboy-encounter-mountaintop-yawnfest-LUKE-JONES-reviews-Brokeback-Mountain.htmlI don’t know if it’s a website error or a deliberate decision but no star rating given. Either zero stars or just simply a site error. I’m waiting for Arifa and Nick’s reviews to balance it out. American film stars seem to be struggling gaining acclaim in the West End - Amy Adams recently in The Glass Menagerie. Helen Hunt did fine last time at the Old Vic but I didn’t see so much discussion here of Eureka Day in the forum. Although British stars do better on Broadway these days. Perhaps it’s just a British thing or a West End thing, or pure coincidence.

I didn't see the film, in which I had zero interest, so wasn't planning to see this, either. However, having heard a preview on Radio 4's Front Row, I really loved the music and learning that the performance was only 90 mins long was encouraging. However, the ticket prices are way too high and the bag policy sounds discouraging (if you're out for the day, you're likely to have a bag larger than their auditorium size limit), so I'll wait to see if there are any offers.

Review round up so far:
5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ BroadwayWorld UK All That Dazzles London Theatre
4 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Evening Standard Theatre Weekly The i The Guardian
3 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Times The Telegraph The Stage WhatsOnStage City AM Time Out
2 STARS & below ⭐️⭐️ The Daily Mail The Independent
So far, it’s going fine. Reviews commend Mike Faist more as well as Emily Fairn who plays Ennis’ wife Alma. Lucas Hedges is also good. (Him looking like a discount Prince Harry meets Ed Sheeran is just so funny to look at lol) No one thinks this is going to top off the iconic movie. Coincidentally, the short film Strange Way of Life, directed by Pedro Almodóvar starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, was reviewed by critics at Cannes. The Brokeback companion, they say.

>> So far, it’s going fine. Not at all: with the exception of the Standard, all the heavy hitters are 3 or 2 stars. These reviews collectively are well below what all involved were hoping for and don't exactly cry out for the Broadway transfer that clearly is the expectation. Be interesting to see what the US trade papers say, if they review it.

"Cloakroom and bag policy: with exceptional acoustics, you too are part of the performance." I don't get this. If they have exceptional acoustics, why does it matter if you have a bag or not?

I was thinking that either Brokeback or Medea or both @sohoplace productions will eventually find home on Broadway within next year…well, I’m leaning towards Medea going to Circle in the Square. (Director Dominic Cooke posted on Instagram that he visited New York last month for meetings…) At least Mike Faist is releasing a new movie this year, Challengers, directed by Luca Guadagnino, which is expected to be an awards contender and a box office hit (also starring Zendaya and Josh O’Connor), and could have its world premiere at Venice, weeks after the Brokeback run ends.

Though the reviews are mixed, for a new production they seem to have enough positives to suggest this might have a future life elsewhere, perhaps after a bit of revision.

That's hilarious! No, maybe it's being saved for the Sunday reviews. Too bad the show itself is so unexciting, though the music is great and so is Faist.

What merchandise is on offer ? I remember programmes, play scripts and tote bags but I know I'm forgetting some things.

I thought this was watchable, but unexciting. It never moved me the way the movie did. Glad I saw it, but I wouldn't see it again.

Does anyone know if Day Seats are continuing for this week ? I emailed them a few days ago to ask about this and this was their reply: “Our day seats have stopped for the time being. Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for any updates.”

Why have day seats for all Medea performances which was close to sold out but not for this which isn't ? Better to have someone buy a seat for £20 rather than leave it empty surely.

Yes, I was thinking the same. I assumed day seats would continue, or they’d perhaps do Rush tickets to fill those unsold seats on the day. I’d like to see it, but not got the budget for the decent seats at the mo.
