Theatre Royal Drury Lane offering seats to a good home!

Seats will be available for collection in January 2019 and LW Theatres said it was keen to receive offers from interested parties requiring batches of 100 seats or more.

I suggest Theatre Board requests a batch of 100 and we can all stick in a fiver for a single seat .... anyone want to second?

I've genuinely wanted to make some casual seating for home from theatre/cinema seats for years. Having ex-service TRDL seats would be the icing on the cake, but it reads like they're only going to divvy them out in large batches, boohoo.

I bought one seat when they flogged the old seats of the Starlight Express Theatre last year. Almost did my back in, lugging the heavy thing up to my apartment on the third floor. Then I realized I had no space for it and it's now parked on the balcony.

And I concur with Matthew, it was only too late that I realized literally thousands of asses have sat in that seat over the years. I covered it in special upholstery cleaning foam a few times, but still only sit in it when I'm wearing long trousers and avoid direct skin contact to the seat. It's also not half as comfortable as my regular garden lounge chair and too low to use at the table, so I hardly use it anyway. Since the chairs were bolted down in the auditorium, it also tends to wobble and keel over when you aren't careful.

So, while owning a proper theatre chair seems like a sweet idea, at the end of the idea it's hard to figure out what to actually do with the bloody thing.

(Do I regret buying it? Hell, no!)

When I was on my tour of Drury Lane just yesterday, the guide told us that a pair of hydraulic bridges (the ones in the photo) were going to a museum in Manchester, presumably meaning the Science and Industry Museum.

(And no jokes, thank you very much, about the north finally getting the latest technology!)

Actually, Manchester is the ideal location for a piece of machinery powered by water. It's either raining...or about to rain. 🙂
