Sandra Marvin from Thunder 'three ovations nightly' Girls, that Sandra Marvin? 🙂 Yes indeed the same! Sandra was also one of the backing singers for Kate Bush when she did her stint at the Apollo Hammersmith. ...and Jacqui Dubois. I thought the band and the bv’s totally elevated the show from merely excellent to full on brilliant. Such a rich gorgeous sound. Quite a feat in Hammersmith Apollo.

Yeah same, but maybe she just wanted a break from the 8 shows a week routine and to concentrate more on her solo career and concerts etc?! She went straight from Dreamgirls to Waitress.

I saw this last time for the first time since the original cast left so I could get a final Marisha show. I'm sad to say that I was surprised that Lucie was so good. She very much has her own take on Jenna and I really like it. Of course David Hunter is still great and Marisha seemed to have brought more subtlety to the role which I loved. I saw Sarah O'Connor as Dawn and wasn't a fan I'm afraid, maybe it's just that Laura is *so* good.
Now Joe Sugg. I had low expectations and I'm afraid they were realised. Jack McBrayer obviously couldn't sing but he was genuinely funny. I cringed the whole way through JS's Never Ever Getting Rid of Me. A lot of the audience were obviously there for him which I found annoying (although that's obviously my own problem for not being able to mind my own business!). I'm not sure of his background or if he has any training but I do think it's impressive if, out of nowhere, he can take part in a West End show like that. I can't imagine be able to do that myself at all.

I'm always flabbergasted that anyone would choose to leave a show at the interval because of not enjoying the first half. For me the showstopping number in act two is worth the ticket price alone but I could happily see the whole show every week if circumstances allowed ! Even at the cinema when occasionally I've realised early doors that I've made a wrong choice of film I've always sat it out and occasionally been won round by the end.

In my case, I did stay for the whole show as I was with a friend, but very much wished I'd left at the interval as it didn't much improve.

It would be an interesting survey question how many people would leave a show at the interval if they were not enjoying it. I get the life is short principle, but my take is that once I've paid my money and travelled to the theatre I'm going to sit out the (usually) hour or less of the second act even if the show is leaving me cold.
I've only been tempted to leave at half time at one musical so far this year. That was a show which received almost universal critical acclaim and I'm glad I sat it out and managed to stay awake too!
Most people have a fair idea what to expect when they book a theatre outing and want to enjoy the experience. Inevitably some will nevertheless be disappointed but I would still maintain that only a tiny minority of the audience at Waitress will leave wishing they'd stayed at home.

Why would you stay if you're not enjoying it? I get that some people pay alot of money to see a show and then add on travel and other expenses, but it was a £25 ticket and i can be home from the theatre in 25 mins. I'm lucky that i'm able to go to the theatre often, so it might not be the big occasion that it is for others, but still, it wasn't my thing so didnt feel the need to stay for the 2nd half.
There's actually very few things i have left at the interval, becuase i feel there is something worth staying for. That wasn't the case with this show.

I really don't think it is a tiny minororty. I also left at the interval when I first saw it. I returned a few months later with friends so stayed for the second act but in my opinion it really didn't improve. Theatre is subjective. Some people like this show, others do not. There is no right or wrong opinion. A persons opinion only becomes invalid when they fail to accept the opinions of others.

I only saw the show once, with Ashley Roberts, so I cannot compare, but Ashley couldn't sing. It was very noticeable. She was however good acting the role. I didn't particularly like the show, not enough the leave, but enough to wonder why it gets the fans.

It's one of the few shows I can't get into at all, so don't even bother. Hated the movie already and only lasted through it because - to my surprise - Nathan Fillion was in it. The music leaves me cold, too. Not sure why I'm even posting here, but perhaps to say that tbfl is really not a tiny minority.

I didn’t leave at half time because I wanted to hear SUTBM which was very nice. The rest of it? Meh. Agree about Laura. Both of the female supports were played as total cliches. In fact the whole thing is clichéd
I think there may be an impression that this show is hugely loved because those of us on here who didn’t enjoy don't feel its necessary to keep coming to the thread to refute every positive post.
Those who love it, carry on, fill your boots. The rest of us have moved on.

I also go to the theatre a lot - probably too often - and travel long distances to do so on a regular basis. As a non-driver even my local theatre is more than 25 minutes away by public transport. London Theatreland takes me about 90 minutes and I've travelled from Kent as far as Edinburgh and Plymouth just to see a new musical first. Leaving before the end would be a big deal for me and would often achieve nothing as I mainly travel on inflexible advance rail or coach tickets. I can understand how in your circumstances you would make a different decision to me at half time. I don't think many people dislike a show like Waitress enough to leave at half time but then again I did exactly that the first and only time I attended a football match back in the late 1960s much to my late father's extreme annoyance !

I was in the unmoved camp as well. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either and have no desire to see it again. Great that others love it though.
And as for interval-leaving, I definitely will if I'm hating it. Less so if it's a matinee where I've got an evening show booked, I'll probably stick with that, but if an evening show sucks I'd rather call it quits at half-time and get home earlier 😀

Surely it’s about being fair and balanced? I totally get the ‘if you’ve got nothing nice to say’ brigade but if we’re sharing opinions? ‘Waitress’ is the ultimate mixed bag so we should expect a bit of both...nicely.

Another member of the didn't really like Waitress much brigade. Just don't quite get what it has. Story daft (and very American in it's sensibilities for my taste). Staging/sets/lighting not spectacular. Music mediocre (IMHO of course). And the characters for me all pretty unlikeable. I am with those who don't get the raving about Laura and Marisha, both SUCH silly caricatures. And Dawn's love interest was just ludicrous.
Anyway, the one saving grace when I went was the surprisingly awesome vocals and understated charm of KMP who carried this show.
I get that it has some passionate fans and that's great, would be a yawn-fest of a world if we all liked the same thing.
But dispassionately, this show has not sold well. They somehow fill two levels of the theatre in the 48 hours before curtain via the usual routes and the producers whoever they are must have deep pockets as I can't see how this could be profitable (though Joe Sugg, a somewhat desperate move, may have changed this).
ALW said today there was no theatre free here or on Broadway for Cinderella. I reckon one of his own should be staring him in the face.

If it's ready to go, as ALW states, Adelphi would be perfect (I say that knowing literally nothing of it's staging requirements lol!)
