Super tense thriller with loads of huge jumpy bits.
It’s 2020 and as a result of something unexplained the world is locked down and silent due to invasion by blind predators who hunt their prey by sound. Emily Blunt is the mother of a family trying to live a “normal” life in silence because if they hear you, they hunt you. As a result there’s very little dialogue which makes for an interesting concept. No gore to speak of, just genuine thrills.
I was on the ceiling for half of it, and I’m now off to put my pants on a hot wash 😐

Bit slow, not as scary as it’s made out to be. I enjoyed this but I just don’t get the hype. Such a great premise but it’s that old thing again where seeing the monster itself makes it less terrifying. I preferred Ghost Stories.

I was beginning to think I was the only person to see it. That bit when {Spoiler - click to view} she’s treads on the nail though... and THEN goes into labour, and can’t make any noise!
I thought the monsters were very like the ones in Stranger Things.

Yes that was a good bit! But I was kind of prepared for that after the trailer.
Have you seen It Follows? I found that modern horror film scarier.

I found that modern horror film scarier. @jonnyboy just watched It Follows on your recommendation and can only say MEH. Great tribute to John Carpenter for the soundtrack except that he wouldn’t have come up with something so mind numbingly tedious and boring. Hated it!

Oh dear! Well, I watched A Quiet Place partly on your recommendation, so shall we call it even? It Follows may lose its way a little towards the end but I found the premise highly original and the scares in it genuinely... well, scary.

I enjoyed it a lot but not to the extent the reviews made it out to be.
I expected it to be more scary! The monsters did give me the creeps slightly, and I agree that they were very similar to the demogorgons from Stranger Things.
I know it may be extremely naive of me (I went into the movie pretty much blind having only went spur of the moment due to a recommendation) but I didn't realise most of the movie was going to be silent. It was a very good premise but I think it should have stuck to being completely silent rather than having the occasional conversation.
Slightly off topic but I like how a lot of kids with cleidocranial dysplasia are getting starring roles in tv/movies the past few years, it's a more common disorder than people think and it shows casting directors are being more open minded. Millicent Simmonds who plays the daughter in this has the disorder, Milly Shapiro who is in the upcoming horror film 'Hereditary' does (having also played the title role of Matilda on Broadway) and the most known name is Gaten Matarazzo who plays Dustin in Stranger Things. (He played Gavroche on Broadway)
