A nice touch from the Lord. Well earned for Gillian. Although I'm not a massive fan of Cats.

Huge applause for this at the New London last night when he first announced it. I have to confess I’ve never seen Cats but Gillian Lynne is a legend and richly deserving of this tribute.

Nice that it has been done so she can see it in her lifetime too.

Very sad news, a veteran of both the West End and Broadway.
It proved to be very timely to have a theatre named after her good self.
Maybe the mods could move this in the general section, as this is major and very sad theatre news.

Sad news and so soon after the New London Theatre was renamed in her honour. She was only at that ceremony a few weeks ago. But she'd had a good innings at 92 years old and had lived to see her theatre officially renamed.

I've only seen the stills of her from the renaming a week or so back and as she was sat down, we have no idea what she was like on her feet. She did look elderly but not particularly frail but at that sort of age people can go suddenly. In many ways it might be a blessing if she went peacefully as some who was involved in so many shows and probably lived a full and active life could well have not wanted to have a slow decline and not be able to do anything.
Just reading a bit about her, fair play to her as her 2nd husband was 27 years younger than her, the late great Dame Gillian was a bit of a cougar.
Our thoughts are of course with him and her family too,

Sad news but she had a long and respected career and life and that was topped off with the renaming of the New London to the Gillian Lynne.
I imagine they'll be tributes to her at Phantom and School of Rock

Devestating news. Thoughts and prayers to her family at this tragic time. A true legend.

Saddened that another Legend of the Theatre in my Lifetime has passed...
So pleased she could see the renaming of the New London in her lifetime.
Honoured that I saw some of her greatest work, so fresh and full of energy and life.
I have a feeling she’ll be on her toes in the Heavyside Layer.
RIP, Gillian, you’ve been amazing!

It's sad of course but what a life! Especially with her husband 30 years younger than her. You go Gillian!

Saw her at the Phantom special Royal Albert Hall and was astonished at her age then, really sad to hear of her passing. So much achieved and a long life.

Even though she was 92, I am still shocked by her passing. I remember when she picked up a BAFTA, I couldn't believe her age. She had the litheness and suppleness of a woman 30 year younger.
I found the tweet put out by her husband moving.

Very sad news. I know her work was extensive and far reaching, but for me Cats was absolutely one of the musicals that changed my life and her influence and work on Cats was (and remains) groundbreaking.
92 is an excellent age though and as others have said, I am glad she saw the New London become the Gillian Lynne.
RIP Gillian.

I too am pleased that she lived to see that special recognition that she so richly deserved. I first came across her inventive work in the 70s during her RSC days with the likes of Once in a Lifetime and The Comedy of Errors. With her work on Cats and Phantom I think she showed the rest of the world that British theatre had their triple threat actors as well. May she rest in peace and be celebrated for many years to come.

She was a fab lady indeed. I always keep forgetting how much she and Maria Bjornson contributed to the ingenuity of the original POTO production.

Very sad news, thoughts go out to her family and friends.
I’ve just read that West End theatres will dim the lights at 7pm tonight in memory.
