After all that effort and struggle to get it through planning too. I wonder if it's the billionaire new owner of the TRH, looking for another trophy asset? The Ambassadors isn't exactly desirable so I doubt it's Sir Len, my guess is Trafalgar Entertainment,

As long as they don't bring Stomp back I don't mind who owns it !

Well, glad it's resolved anyway as the place really needs something doing to it! I was very surprised to learn that Cam hadn't already bought it.

I wonder if Cameron will continue his pursuit of building a flexible studio theatre.

Maybe now's the time to float the idea that Sondheim deserves immortalisation in the West End in more than a 'flexible studio theatre' space, so in one way I'm glad to see these specific plans fall through. However I think in terms of managing a renovation/redevelopment of the Ambassadors, Macintosh was the right man. I'm assuming with a 'deal struck' 4 years ago no actual final transaction had gone through so someones played the property value game here, seen reports of Cameron's wavering confidence in the projects cost and jumped in with a “significantly higher offer" based on the value today rather than the figure agreed 4 years ago. Dirty.

I was thinking of opening a book on which of this theatres was going to get a re-naming sooner rather than later. Probably the Wyndham's.

That would be my guess, or the Victoria Palace. I think the Victoria Palace name will stay for the foreseeable but Wyndham’s could be renamed and no one would bat an eyelid.

It's either Wyndhams or possibly Queens that could change currently I guess, as you say Victoria Palace is likely to stick for a while. Or they'll hold out til HRH passes and then there'll be a bit of rejigging around of names as both Queens and Prince of Wales come up for grabs - whilst Her Majesty's becomes His. Perhaps Prince of Wales will become Kings and Queens will get a posthumous dedication to a noted theatre contributer.

The Prince of Wales theatre was named after the future Edward VII anyway!
It is true though that Her Majesty’s Theatre has historically changed name according to the gender of the monarch - it was His Majesty’s until 1952. You learn something every day!

But when Prince Charles becomes King (with Queen Camilla) there will still be a Prince of Wales, William. Not necessarily. While it is custom that the title of Prince of Wales be conferred to the Heir Apparent, it's not automatic - for example, Prince Charles only got the title from his Mum six years after becoming Heir Apparent. So it's perfectly possible that we'll go through a period where there isn't a Prince of Wales.

Queen Camilla has a ring to it though doesn't it. I wonder if we'll get a Queen Camilla Theatre somewhere. Perhaps The Arts or Traf Studios could re-name itself? /jest

William is much older than Charles was when he became heir apparent, very popular and set up with a heir and two spares and the Palace will want to show consistency and continue with its "new" Royal Family setup which works well. Plus, William and Kate will take on even more responsibility and making them Prince and Princess of Wales (a title Camilla has never used for obvious reasons) will reflect that.

I think we should stop naming theatres after royals altogether, it's 2018 and it seems bizarre to be sucking up to the descendants of colonialists and treating the monarchy as though it's something that deserves to be celebrated.

How we arrived here is just as important as where we are going. They inform each other.

I agree. I think there are plenty of Brits who deserve a theatre named after them in London's glitzy West End before Stephen Sondheim.

How about The Theresa May Theatre?...……...makes a very smart dash to the bullet proof getaway car!!!! Lovely. They won't tell you what play you're going to see or anything about it until you're halfway through your interval G&T. Pinter means Pinter.

Play? Perhaps something like Stomp would be more suited at the Theresa May Theatre...

Well I still think we are long overdue a WE Rattigan Theatre. Funny but I was only saying this last weekend. I guess as CamMac has a habit of renaming theatres after gay men, it's up to him. Pity he's having probs with the purchase of the Ambassadors as i guess Sondheim is next in line for whatever theatre he can get.

Well I still think we are long overdue a WE Rattigan Theatre Given that most theatres have a rat problem anyway... sort of covered, perhaps. Shall I get your coat or have you already got it ?
