There's a thread somewhere here that has a basic speculation.
It's also hard to put a full list because the season is still accepting new entrance. Torch Song Trilogy is rumored to open on Broadway, and I think that Hadestown might make a surprise announcement.

They might throw in a nomination for Renée Fleming as Featured Actress too for 'Carousel'. Possibly Gavin Lee as Featured Actor for 'Spongebob Squarepants' too.

I did search in another thread But my thoughts are Frozen will need the best musical nomination. With Cursed Child already the favourite to win the Tony and with an Olivier Award. It might be fighting against it all the way to keep people seeing it. Just like the theme parks. I also think Disney's time with musicals is now all over.
I know one is a play and one is a musical but they are selling to the same demographic. and families have budgets.

I don't think it will specifically "need" the Tony - but yes, it would help.
I would disagree that Harry Potter and Frozen are vying the same audience. Just because they have some element of magic, might appeal to children, etc.
The Harry Potter crowd is a LOT more diverse in every single imaginable way: it's not specifically for children or families..the audience I sat with in London were completely adults. It's hardly billed as a family show. I know a few Harry Potter die-hard fans, and they wouldn't be caught dead in a show like Frozen.
Frozen on the other hand is through and through a family show, and more specifically focused on girls.

When I went to see Potter a week ago, I saw maybe less than 10 children there.

I'm not having kids. Apparently raising a child from 0 to 18 costs about £250,000. Think how many shows I'll be able to see instead.

I'm just going to predict a lot of nominations for The Band's Visit and Spongebob. Just going by the buzz. (I haven't seen either one yet!)

I think Spongebob could get scenic and costume design nominations, but I don't see them getting cast nominations. Ethan Slater is a powerhouse, but not sure he will get the most prestigious award for theatre excellence? Maybe Gavin Lee for Best Supporting Actor.
I think Band's Visit has the best bet for Best Score, Book, Best Musical, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor (Ariel Stachel). Tony Shalhoub is great but he sort of doesn't sing, so it'll be weird for him to win Best Actor in a Musical with no musical contribution.

In terms of MT, I think he's as good and in some cases superior to various past nominees. Definitely more of a triple threat than Josh Gad or Bertie Carvel were in my humble opinion. As well as Gavin Lee, I'd like to see Wesley Taylor get a Best Supporting nomination - he was outstanding and actually managed to make the role of a chippy plankton extremely alluring! I would hope Tina Landau and Tom Kitt are both nominated, along with David Zinn (designer) as you say.

You're a Spongebob advocate, that's fine I think Spongebob will get noticed for design. Its cast are probably killing it, and are true triple threats and sweating buckets night and night, but squid, fish, soft shells don't have a history of getting nominated. It's normally the more dramatic roles, and in comedy, they'd be roles about real people. Nothing against SB, I actually enjoyed the cast recording a lot and planning on seeing it in June.

You may well be right ali973, but I can think of some notable exceptions to your theory including a cat, a beast, two puppets, an elephant, an ogre, two witches and a genie...

And don't forget that a snake was nominated for Lead Actor in a Play in 1999 and even won Featured Actor in a Play in 1991 . . .

I wonder what Julie Taymor would have done with Frozen? How sad to think that Frozen wouldn’t sweep the awards boards.... (((
