I loved the Mrs. Henderson Presents performance and after watching it I am quite tempted to get day seats. I thought Emma William's voice was stunning! I personally think, much as I love Lara and thought she was incredible, Emma should of won. She carries the whole show and the moment she ended that song in the show, I immediately thought Olivier Award. It is a real shame she didn't walk away with that award.
I'd recommend seeing it, I am sure it has only improved since I saw the first preview. I had a great time!

I imagine it's because there was more of a character development for Lara Pulver in 'Gypsy' and she demonstrated a wide range, whereas Emma Williams was very pretty and sang nicely but there didn't seem much change between beginning and end. I thought the show flagged when she took centre stage myself whereas Lara Pulver really owned it when Imelda was off stage.

I consider Lara a co-lead, with Imelda, but I know I am in the minority with that thought. I listened to some of the other music from Mrs. Henderson and it sounds a bit dated, but I think I'll still go and see it.

Not in singing demand, but in acting and the size of the role, somewhat more a leading role.

She's on stage a similar amount of time as Lara Pulver in 'Gypsy' isn't she?

Following on from their sketch at the Olivier Awards (which in my opinion was one of the highlights of the entire evening), I'd love to see the Cornley Polytechnic Society (of The Play That Goes Wrong fame) host the Olivier Awards next year. I just think it would hilarious from start to finish.
If not, I'd throw my vote in for Rob Brydon. He was also hilarious when presenting an award this year, he's a brilliant comedian who can (and did, more so than Michael Ball) produce belly-laughs from a large audience, isn't adverse to poking fun at respected celebs/serious actors (which I really think would lighten the entire evening up) and making some controversial jokes to make the audience go "ooooo" - everyone likes that. He's also a bona fide actor and singer so could do a proper, original, funny opening number (like the Tony's - maybe written by Tim Minchin?) which I also think the Olivier's are crying out for.
I think the Tony's feel like an actual theatrical celebration, it feels like a musical itself, like a jukebox musical of performances from all the musicals and other special performances. It pokes fun, it's big, it's a real bloody spectacle of what makes theatre great. At the moment, the Olivier's are more of a dignified, gentle pat on the back. I think they should look at the awards themselves as being secondary to putting on an actual show. That way, the gravitas and celebration of winning an award will come from the adrenaline and excitement of feeling like you're watching a show.

Much as I loved If Mountains Were Easy To Climb at the Oliviers, I'm thinking MHP should have done Emma's fan dance number with her dropping the fans at the end in careful lighting, as in the show. That's what the show's about and that would sell it.
Reminds me of The Full Monty at the Tony Awards several years back when the guys performed Let It Go and went through with the full strip - rather shocking the audience. It sure worked for them, the buzz from that was tremendous.

My first thought was Rob Brydon to host next after his award presentation. Just brilliant!

Does anyone know why Herbie wasn't part of the gypsy performance?

Does anyone know why Herbie wasn't part of the gypsy performance? When they turned the cameras on the nominees for 'Best Supporting Actor in a Musical', Gemma Sutton was holding up a picture of Peter Davison, so I assume he wasn't present at the ceremony.

I enjoyed Lara's performance (although it was non speaking). I would have had the same 'here we go again...' expression had it been my mother

Does anyone have any idea if John Simm was considered leading or supporting for Three Days in the Country. I consider him supporting, however they may have ruled the character was a lead. If they did consider him supporting, I'm surprised Mark Gatiss was nominated over him.

I find that a little odd, personally I think Amanda Drew was the only lead in Three Days and the Country. She had a far bigger role than him. Mark Gatiss was really good, but I felt John Simm just showed more emotion.
