Prue's red dress with semi funnel collar and necklace combo is a huge misstep. Hope she's better at judging than throwing putting her outfits together. Mary never put a foot wrong in the fashion stakes. The queen of middle England smart casual. A satin bomber, a bootleg Jean, all worn with aplomb. I miss her.

Doesn't Prue Leigh flog her grub at Asda?

It's quite an awkward junction to have shows at 9.15pm after Bake Off. I suspect they wouldn't be able to cut Channel 4 News so that Bake Off could be at 1945 and have it end at 9pm.
I imagine due to it being on Channel 4, it won't be able to attract the 10m+ viewers it got on BBC One but I'm sure Channel 4 will be thrilled if it does 5-6m in that slot

I think Paul Hollywood is quoted as saying that it will be a failure if it doesn't get 8 million viewers.

I will not be watching this out of principle and loyalty.
Oooh, well hello Tom and Tom's lovely hair.
No. I will not watch be watching it.
Maybe just one episode if Tom promises to ganache his buns.
Oh I'm torn. I'm like Meryl Streep in 'Sophie's Choice'. Just without the Polish accent.

I think Paul Hollywood is quoted as saying that it will be a failure if it doesn't get 8 million viewers. Does he mean for the first episode or for subsequent episodes when everyone has stopped watching ? In general the press have a preferred narrative on this which is to portray it as a failure, that becomes self-fulfilling.

In a mini-homage to a certain programme that may or may not be back on tv tonight but I don't know because I'M NOT WATCHING IT Ive just had a crack at an apple and almond cake. Looks ok ok but after I turned it out I realised it was RAW under the apples and had to slam it back in the oven the right way up for ten mins. Not tried it yet, will probably be dry as a bone . Feel free to post your own triumphs and tribulations, and pics to go with welcomed!

Well thankfully the format is strong enough to survive ad breaks, two show sponsors and Noel Fielding.
Fielding serves no purpose at all.
Prue Leith is as good as I expected and Mary Berry appears to have given her floral bomber jackets to Sandi.
It is ok enough to keep watching - but it isn't what it should/could be

My verdict is that it's just trying too hard.
The problem is that the producers clearly wanted to replicate the original: older female judge, bantering presenters, floral bomber jackets...It's not been allowed to develop naturally, and it shows.

Loved it! Particularly found that Noel Fielding fitted in very well considering this is unlike anything we have seen him do before. The final ad break was a bit annoying but added a nice bit of suspense. Frankly it's the same old TV show that I have loved for the past few years and the love to Channel 4 hasn't changed that

Aw sorry, it was a turn off for me. Noel Fielding, I didn't believe he knew what he was talking about in his voice overs. Prue Leith just didn't ring true playing Mary Berry. I got the feeling she was having a little vomit in her mouth at times and also decided to patronise her way through. Those ad breaks, and the cheap one at the end, with just a couple of minutes programme on the return. The Sandi/Noel exchanges were a bit telegraphed. I can now miss it with a clear conscience!

Decided to have a sneaky look when I realised there wasn't much else on - some impressive looking cakes, but if I closed my eyes Prue Leith sounded exactly like Mary Berry and said pretty much the same things only less convincingly. The Mary Berry impression doesn't work for me when the actual Mary Berry sounds much more genuine and knowledgeable.
I manage to stick about 30 seconds of Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig before I had to switch off - dreadful.

Loved it. Those mini rolls though... 😱 Peppermint in a mini roll?!?! Anyway, the criticism really, really confuses me. I can't tell whether some people were so adamant they weren't going to enjoy it that they forced themselves not to enjoy it. Literally absolutely nothing about it has changed. Bake Off is about the contestants. It worked great with Mary, Mel & Sue and it works brilliantly with Prue, Sandi and Noel. I actually think I found it funnier tonight than I ever previously did on BBC One. Not that it's a comedy, but it adds to the overall enjoyment. I think Prue has far better things to do with her time than try and impersonate Mary Berry - which she certainly wasn't doing. If anyone has seen her on Great British Menu on BBC2, she's being Prue Leith. Sandi is a very naturally funny and warm person, and I really enjoyed a more 'normal' Noel. His voice-overs were fine, nothing special, but if that's all one can complain about (from what I've seen online, twitter and the like), that's not much. I guess the adverts will take come getting used to, but come on, Bake Off isn't the first show to ever have adverts. I really ain't a big deal. Sorry to see that some didn't enjoy - but it does confuse me because, as I say, I really don't see the difference.
