I've not seen it, but everyone online says it was all recorded up to where Brennin broke his ankle (off stage after What You Own), then it was live after that. Oh my, so basically 85% of it! Disappointing for a LIVE show... After nearly 2 years waiting for this... 😑😔

I am not hating Collins, Mark, Mimi, Joanne - they are all doing good work. Ms Hudgens is mugging a bit for my liking - but singing well enough.
Roger feels out of place. Valentina - well, yes.... there are better drag queens out there who can actually sing the notes.
I just find it completely overblown in terms of staging.
There are some good moments - but not enough to save it.

I'd also give Seasons of Love a watch, for Keale's moment. If it's anything like the note she sang in that clip of the OBC then I'll pass thanks!

Bringing back the original cast was the only bit that affected me emotionally - even though the singing was very ropey in parts!

I don't think it goes against board rules to say it's available to stream on Fox, should you have the geographic means to be allowed to.
(I haven't watched it yet, I'm reserving judgement until I do, I may give a sneaky watch to the finale at lunchtime though as a little treat)

I only saw a clip of the bit at the end where the original cast came out - but Keala Settle, was it my speakers or did she actually scream her high note? I honestly thought she was better than that but wondering if I'm missing something.

I believe google would help you with that.

Watching this. I was expecting way worse. I'm enjoying this. Valentina sucks tho. She's horrible.
There are some lyric changes. I can understand some of them since this is FOX and some words can't be said, but seriously, some of those changes are so so so random.
Keala nailing that solo!!!! Queen!
BVD is terrific! That I'll Cover You (Reprise), wooow!!!! I'm not crying, YOU are crying!
Had to stop but I'll continue later.

I'll Cover You reprise is the vocal highlight of the show for me
I dread to think what they will do with Hair! in May to make it 'safe' for US viewers...

Valentina was set up to fail to an extent, because she can't act or sing, and that role is designed to be a show-stopper, the role that always manages to be one of the people you go away talking about. Weirdly too, she didn't even bring it in the dancing either. She did nothing more than twirl in Today 4 U. I would say, of the cast, she is the biggest disappointment, but it's a fustration thing more than anything.

Based on the reviews I've read so far Jordan, Brandon, Vanessa and Kiersey came out of this one the best. I love this quote from the Variety review:
"...no one seemed to have told Hudgens that the Saturday performance was a dress rehearsal, because her vulpine Maureen, a flirtatious performance artist with charisma to burn, storms the stage with so much urgent fire that you can practically feel the heat emanating from the screen".

Fans of Broadway.com, Paul Wontorek reacting to the Original Cast entrance, and he seems to have had a glass or three of wine based on how he usually sounds to this. 😂

I'm generally not into these live musical broadcasts or recent movie musicals. I even struggle to watch the NT broadcasts. I prefer theatre live, but I have serious FOMO and like to stay current so I sampled the broadcast.
I think they did an okay job considering the format. I like the idea of an immersive Rent and I think it could work as a live theatre performance. I found myself chocking up at certain parts, namely Angel's funeral, Seasons of Love (of course!) and the finale. I wasn't a Renthead in '96 but I of course knew the show well and saw the OLC. I couldn't really connect with it until at least a decade later, when I reconnected with the score again and realized how powerful it was. By then it became a cultural phenomenon. People tend to diss the movie, but I actually think it's pretty okay and enjoyed watching it more than once. Glad I was 15 when it opened on Broadway to see how it took the world by storm and how it became such a cultural landmark that represents an entire generation and an era that I love and reminisce about constantly. I missed the recent production at The Other Palace but would love to see either the original or a reincarnation of it sometime soon.

I'm an emotional wreck right now after seeing the finale. Was it perfect? No (Idina, wtf happened to your voice, gurl), but I don't care.

So, there was a live performance that was filmed - just not aired. It was a mostly "concert" version for the audience that showed up to see the live performance. The audience could see the actors perform live and the taped version on monitors and there are twitter tweets of the comparisons. Meanwhile, Fox, itself, posted clips of the "concert" version (which hopefully might be released someday?). BroadwayWorld collected some: Rent Live in Concert

And she does sound screechy at some points. I'm also not really a fan of how the lyrics changed in that section, it sounded like she was making it up as she went along, but in a messy way.

I wasn't crazy about her voice. I think the best Seasons of Love (certainly as far as the solo passage is concerned is this..
The spontaneity, Idina unprepared for her solo bit, Tamika's note and Idina's reaction to it..all of it just full of joy.

I'm 12 minutes in.
Two main observations so far...
Roger is hot.
Valentina is dreadful.

Vanessa Hudgens is also hitting more than her fair share of duff notes. But she's Barbra Streisand compared to Valentina who's mouth I hope never opens on a stage ever again.
Thank god for Roger. And his trousers.
