Wasn't sure whether to put this story into the General Chat section or here, but as a huge fan of his (and there might be others on here too, not just of Matilda and Groundhog Day but of his comedy and everything else), it's such a shame to hear that the Dreamworks animated movie he was co-directing, writing music and voice acting in, Larrikins has been shut down after working on it for four years - having moved out to LA! As a result he's doing a show tomorrow at Fienstein's 54/Below in New York, after releasing this message: Of course, Matilda is still going brilliantly around the world, and of course he's not the only one involved with this movie, but hopefully things will go better for him. It sounds that (like it probably is with the whole animation industry) such a lot of time and effort, and probably money went into this project, it must be devastating for it to just be scrapped in a heartbeat!

Tim Minchin and "impotent fury". I feel for him, I really do, but I'm hoping there will be a musical from the experience and he calls Impotent Fury. In bright lights!

Is it me, or are those UK tour dates listed with the wrong day of the week?

I just compared them with a 2019 calendar and they look fine, so I guess it's just you.

That must be heartbreaking. I can’t imagine working on something for so long to have someone pull the plug on it. I hope someone else picks it up.

I just got a front row (at OXFORD) thanks to my ATG card. Damn! I missed the TM presale link (from Twitter it looks like there were problems anyway). 2019 in Oxford - YAY!

I totally missed the boat for tickets at my local venue - so gutted! My "local" would be the London venues, Hammersmith or The Palladium. Instead I went for Oxford as my ATG card got me a lovely ticket; I looked for the last night of the tour this morning, being Southend it's not like I've got to travel too far, got a Row F on the aisle - considering how many times the site kept crashing me out I'm fairly happy with that, so if I love Oxford I'll go to Southend and finish it up nicely. Otherwise I'll try and return it to the box office nearer the time. Kudos to Mr Minchin for the affordable price of these - as his tweet - (swear box to hand) ... @timminchin Please remember everyone: DON’T buy tickets for inflated prices on secondary sales sites. I cap my ticket price because I think it’s ****y to charge too much, regardless of demand. These f***ers exploit this to make money for themselves. f*** those guys (TM's tweet goes full on and not asterisky).

With you on pricing - refreshingly reasonable, thanks Mr M. The ATG pre-sale worked well for me too, plus I picked up a pretty good ticket as a Friend of the Brum Hipp for later in the tour.

Not only are the tickets reasonably priced but I believe I read somewhere that the extra money that people pay for premium tickets will all go to charity!

Looks like a new musical is on the horizon as announced on a Twitter Q&A yesterday...
He also says that the plan is to open it in Australia and will be biographic (opposed to original or an adaptation).
Exciting stuff!

I was at his show tonight at the Liverpool Empire. An absolutely fantastic night out at the theatre. Tim and his band did not disappoint in the slightest. With a runtime of 2.5hrs including the interval, time just flew by with his various stories and musical numbers. I was hoping that at some point during the evening he might do a number or two from Matilda or GroundHog Day along with his comedy songs so when he started singing “When I Grow Up” that made my night.
From what Tim was saying tonight, a large amount of cash has been raised for charity from those individuals who purchased the premium tickets across the UK tour.
A big shout out to the BSL lady tonight who had the great task of doing the sign language for the entire night. She certainly seemed to be enjoying herself and was butt of a couple of jokes from Tim.
As an aside, anybody wanting to buy a programme they are £12 each. Other merchandise such a T Shirts and mugs were also on sale tonight.

Saw this in Oxford - now, I know Matilda but never seen it, however Groundhog Day was a complete delight for me and did a repeat viewing - 5 times .... Tim said at Oxford he hit a very low point when Groundhog Day flopped on Broadway and an animated movie he'd been working on was pulled when the studio was bought out. I wanted to leap up and say GROUNDHOG DAY WAS SUPERB! Goddamit. Every song he did, every story he told, was new to me. If This Plane Goes Down was a favourite (Groundhog Day-esk). Came across as a really very decent bloke. And plugged his new TV series airing on Sky later this month (28 November 2019) - Tim Minchin and newcomer Milly Alcock in a sharp-tongued and touching comedy drama set on a 4,000km road trip from Sydney to Perth with a piano in tow. www.timminchin.com/2019/10/03/all-episodes-of-upright-will-be-available-in-the-uk-28th-november-and-in-australia-1st-december/

It has been revealed that Tim's debut studio album titled Apart Together will be released on 20th November this year and can now be pre-ordered.
For those who saw his BACK tour last year, it features 'Leaving LA' and 'I'll Take Lonely Tonight' which he played and have already been released as singles, as well as 'If This Plane Goes Down' and 'Carry You' - which is from his (also brilliant!) series Upright and he closed the BAFTAs with last week.
Also a third single will be released from tomorrow also titled Apart Together

Rather than derail the Groundhog Day thread, Tim Minchin is having a night (4 June 2023) - possibly more (11 June 2023 has come up on Ticketmaster but not on sale ?-yet-? at the Lyric Theatre.
God Bless the man (whatever God you profess to) and his clever, witty songs.
Adding - @timminchin - 2018 twee - Please remember everyone: DON’T buy tickets for inflated prices on secondary sales sites. I cap my ticket price because I think it’s ****y to charge too much, regardless of demand. These f***ers exploit this to make money for themselves. f*** those guys
2018 - I didn't go to Southend after all (date didn't work for me) but sold my ticket on Twickets, non profit site.
