Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical is shaping up nicely into an obvious catagory it seems. With Tracie Bennett and Rachel John appearing to be the two locks, do any of the three supporting ladies in Young Frankenstein seem likely for a nomination? I've heard great things about Dianne, Summer and Lesley so I wouldn't be surprised if we get one or even two of them in there. A Strallen always seems to get in, and I doubt they will all nab a nomination, so does Dianne get bumped out as Lesley is the famous one who got great reviews?

Andrea Martin was the one out of the three ladies who got the Tony nomination as Frau Blücher, the Lesley Joseph role. I'd expect the same at the Oliviers. Christopher Fitzgerald got the nomination from the male actors as Igor. Again, I'd expect Ross Noble to be the one recognised at the Oliviers too.

Having gone back to 42nd Street, I really hope Sheena, Clare and Stuart get nominated. I wonder if there is gonna be a discussion as to Sheena and Clares placing though, or if thry will follow the Tonys and have Sheena in lead and Clare in support? Either way, both should and coils get nominated. I think Supporting Actress is locked in now pretty much as Rachel John, Tracie Bennett, Lesley Joseph and one of the 42nd Street girls. If they add a fifth nominee, I imagine it will be another Young Frankenstein lady, and I'll throw some love to Zoe Rainey being a spoiler nominee for An American in Paris.

I would think if they're going to add another nominee, it'll be someone from Follies. I think Follies will feature prominently overall. Could Botcher or Barstow sneak in to supporting with Bennett maybe? Regardless, I think Bennett has that category sewn up. It'll be her third supporting win. And Staunton winning best actress? Not so sure this year. Doesn't seem to be as clear a slam dunk as in previous years. Doesn't help either that she's miscast. I think she'd be more likely to win best actress in a play for her Martha in Virginia Woolf. Follies should easily score best revival and some of the design categories.

I'll say it, I don't think Imelda is winning either this year. Natalie Dormer I've heard is amazing, and Audra was incredible.
And Janie Dee over Imelda for Follies.

I just changed to a mastercard so i might try to get tickets this year. I think they go on sale next week. Out of interest, if anyones been, what's it like? Are you smuggled in by a side entrance as the great unwashed or do you do the whole red carpet walk even though you are a nobody?

They put a blanket over your head, smuggle you in via the basement, take you to the Rausing Circle, where before entering you are sprayed in disinfectant. Don’t forget dress is formal, so black tie, underwear made from ermine and all body piercings to be replaced with diamond encrusted pins. It’s magical!

Although tickets are not supposed to be on general sale yet, out of curiosity I went to the Albert Hall web site www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/events/2018/the-olivier-awards/It let me select seats and go right through to the payment page and looks like it will accept any credit card. Not many seats showing as on sale though and £85 for a second tier seat is a bit too much for me for this event so I did not complete the transaction. I will wait and see if more tickets will become available for MasterCard holders.

Looks like they have fixed this. On the priceless site there was a box to click to buy tickets. I can see they have removed this and added some login text instead. Looking back through my browser History I can see the web addresses I used, you could try tickets.royalalberthall.com/booking/production/bestavailable/59542You may have to log into a your account (create one if necessary) for the Albert Hall first.

The nominations usually are announced in late february or first week of March.
I still believe Imelda and Garfield are winning lead Oliviers in Play.

Garfield will likely win Tony and Olivier in the SAME YEAR. Has this ever happened before?

Are you smuggled in by a side entrance as the great unwashed or do you do the whole red carpet walk even though you are a nobody? I've been for the last 5 years or so, it used to be way better when it was at The Royal Opera House, you got to walk the red carpet and they gave you champagne and you felt like part of it. Last year they moved it to the RAH and although it is now a bit cheaper the experience isn't the same. You don't get to walk the red carpet, you have to go in a side entrance and the £35 tickets are at the extreme side of the Rausing Circle so they are quite restricted view. You still get to dress up and they give you a programme and it's cool just to be there but it's not what it once was. I'm going again this year though, so I obviously feel it's still worth the £35

Garfield will likely win Tony and Olivier in the SAME YEAR. Has this ever happened before? Not to my knowledge- this article here lists people who have won for the same role- mostly a year apart after transferring from London-NY or the other way around. For Angels it depends how the Tony/Olivier committee splits the nominations. For the Tonys Prior and Roy have both been in the supporting and lead actor category (basically it was one way around the first time then switched) and obviously it depends if they decide to put Lane/Garfield against one another or put them in separate categories. Also I think the 'other Andrew' could be him in London. I think the ensemble nature of it will go against any of the Angels cast actually.

I think the ensemble nature of it will go against any of the Angels cast actually. Possibly, although having said that both Jennifer Ehle and Billy Crudup won featured role Tonys for 'The Coast of Utopia' which is also very ensemble driven. I think which categories they choose to put the cast in will be interesting. Andrew Garfield is clearly the lead and I don't think that can really be denied so any other category would be frankly ridiculous, it's really where they put Nathan Lane which will be the one to watch. I have a feeling they will also put him in Lead too, pitting him against Garfield although putting him in featured gives him a better chance of winning (and the Tonys do love a bit of Nathan Lane). The featured categories will be a bit of a bloodbath for the Angels cast methinks and someone somewhere is going to miss out. I wonder whether Lee Pace will take James McArdle's spot. Denise Gough is a guaranteed nominee I think, Susan Brown may miss out depending on how strong that category is come nomination time.

I think Garf and Lane will be against each other for lead (if I'm putting money on it, Garf will win in London, Lane in NY). In supporting, it'll depend on the competition for the boys- in NY I think McArdle will lose out on a nomination (which is a travesty) in London, I think depending on the others in there, Stewart-Jarrett might pip him to it. I don't think Tovey will get nominated for the London run, but Pace almost certainly will. BUT for the Tonys as well they'll be up against The Boys in the Band lot as well, and that's an interesting fight. Gough will certainly get nominated and likely win in either case. But I think Sue Brown will get overlooked, which is a great shame.

The real shame is that Conleth Hill won't get the love he deserves for his extraordinary performance in Virginia Woolf

I'll be intrigued to see what happens with Imelda. She will definately be nominated for Virginia Woolf, and possibly win, but all the Follies energy seems to be going into Janie rather than her.

Yeah I think Staunton will get nominated for both but she will win for her powerhouse performance in Virginia Woolf. Dee may very well take the other for Follies. And Bennett will be nominated for supporting for Follies but I assume she'll face competition from the Hamilton girls. I'm expecting a Hamilton/Follies love fest on the musical side anyway.

Where has that come from? I haven't seen anything other than plaudits for both whereas it's the men in the show who are being less talked about. Would Carly Bawden be eligible as she'd be a worthy third option?

Boys in the Band doesn't open at the Booth Theatre until May 31, more than a month after Tony eligibility cut-off date for this season, so it and ANGELS won't go to head to head at the Tonys, which was presumably (and wisely) done on purpose. And, yes, the FOLLIES energy, for good or for ill, is all around Janie and not Imelda, for whatever reason: Janie got an Evg Standard Theatre Award nom and whatsonstage.com nom for FOLLIES whereas Imelda didn't get either (though she did get a WOS nod for VIRGINIA WOOLF). But there's a history here -- the last two Broadway revivals of FOLLIES brought noms for their Phyllis-es (Jan Maxwell and before that the wonderful Blythe Danner) but not for their Sallys (Bernadette Peters, who is Broadway royalty, and before that Judith Ivey.) At this point I think the Olivier is Janie's to lose, though I can't imagine Imelda won't at least be nominated. And if Janie does win over Imelda, that will be just like it was on Broadway with the original production, where Alexis Smith beat Dorothy Collins. Shame the men aren't getting more attention - they were both extraordinary, especially Peter Forbes only because he was/is so much lesser-known than PQ.
I, too, hope the Oliviers remember Conleth Hill who gave the performance of that VWOOLF production. I wonder if James Macdonald will be nominated for best director for V WOOLF or maybe even for JOHN, in which his work is exquisite. And how wonderful it would be, too, to nominate Marylouise Burke (from JOHN), whose performance is a thing of wonder -- giddy and nuanced and, in the final act, utterly radiant.
On Broadway, Gough's Tony success will surely be helped by the bravura reviews she got last autumn for PEOPLE, PLACES & THINGS which was done OFF Broadway (so is Tony-ineligible) -- versatility in a single season goes down well with Tony voters!
