It's a year today since my mother died. Not my best day, but better than I expected, perhaps because I'm avoiding the family WhatsApp group on the grounds that a load of sentimental posturing by my brother - who couldn't be bothered to help take care of Mum while she was completely housebound, didn't care enough to answer the the phone when the hospice called in the middle of the night to say she was dying, but was round Mum's house, which was still my home at the time, helping himself to stuff before we'd even finalised the funeral arrangements - probably wouldn't improve my mood. I'm OK, and I think I've done a good job of getting myself through the last year - and I've put some distance between myself and that side of the family, and it helps. And my aunts and cousins have been incredibly kind and supportive over the last year. Today is sad but also positive - everything relating to the estate is finally dealt with and wrapped up, and I'm free to start looking forward. Good work sf and give yourself a pat on the back. I am sure you will always miss your mum but hope you have some lovely memories of her. How is the new place working out? When lockdown happened I know accommodation situation was horrible....hope the new place is good.

When lockdown happened I know accommodation situation was horrible....hope the new place is good. Thank you. I like my new place, thanks. Still some furniture I need to get, although I think I'll get around to it sooner rather than later now, and I haven't got the belongings I kept from the house (no furniture) out of storage yet, but I have what I need for now. I'm just relieved to have found somewhere safe - the few days leading up to the start of the lockdown were a bit hair-raising.

sf it is the anniversaries that always hit you, it is not so much the anniversary of the death but the birthdays that become harder as time applies it’s healing properties. Not sure if you are in London, if you are and fancy a pint when we are allowed to and you feel confident give us a shout as London can be a lonely place.

Have just had to pacify my mother with cake and she is furious.
Not with what has been going on in the last few day but because of the latest update tonight following that press interview Paddington 2 was not on at it's scheduled time.

Bought some pint glasses at OH's request in the weekly shop today.
Bought some plastic ones for myself as I've managed to smash 3 in as many weeks.

Well i'm only onto round two of the new nt quiz and it's worth it just for the comedy value of the presenters so far.

Does anyone else start a task and end up doing 5 others as well? Always! My current version is computer-based... I want to add some photos to my website and realize they're all over the place, so I decide to reorganize the photos, but I want to backup first before making big changes, then realize I don't have enough space on my hard drive to hold the backup, and in order to get enough space I have to move some of my files onto external storage....

Refuelled my car for the first time since the middle of March. I was surprised the lock on the cap still worked.
Now I need to get around to washing it, as it's starting to look like it's been parked in a dust storm and my wing mirror spiders have been gaining confidence and staked a claim to the doors.

So I decide to take the country route home from the supermarket this morning because it's a lovely day and a drive in the country always lifts my spirits. Two minutes into the return journey an immense insect splatters on the windscreen right in front of my eyes. Not an issue as far as seeing the road is concerned, but all the way home I was slightly irritated by the not-as-perfect-as-I-wanted view.

It is a gloriously sunny and temperate Saturday here in the Midwest, so I envision a day spent weeding, whining about weeding, and "wining" with a tasty Pouilly-Fume and a good book on the porch.

Managed to tip over the fish food on a slatted outdoors seat, very fine flakes that break at the lightest touch, as I desperately try and brush them back into the pot a gust of wind blows them all off across the garden. Spent some time trying to pick it up again, only really succeeded in picking up dog hair (how does the dog have any hair left on it so much seems to be everywhere else, inside packets of crisps you've just opened, in the washing machine etc) and bird poo.

I've been watching the first manned launch using the SpaceX Falcon 9. Impressive stuff, and it's awesome to see the bell of the rocket engine glowing a deep red with the heat. Despite the fact that they've had many successful launches of unmanned vehicles I was still nervous. Plus SpaceX's CEO is Elon Musk, also CEO of Tesla, so I was kind of expecting it to crash into a bridge.
When the reusable first stage was returning for its landing the live feed from the landing site cut off moments before touchdown and came back moments after to show the rocket already sitting there. I'm sure the conspiracy theorists are already swinging into action.

I've just seen it in the sky, very cool. At least I thought I did, but apparently it was the ISS that was bright, not the SpaceX

New morning routine atm; cycle to the park >> sun, read and nature, followed by cycle hill climbing to the point of muscle/lung failure, return home. Then ponce about pretending to write. Splendid start today. Thoroughly smug evening lays ahead

Long walk across the golf course dodging golf balls from golfers who can’t play for toffee... Lunch in the garden with the fam.Paul Young playing on the music system( btw ‘Hope In A Hopeless World’ is a great optimistic track for the crisis we are living through) Just finished Elly Griffiths’s latest book.Great series about a forensic archaeologist in Norfolk...very atmospheric writing...have met the author at a signing and she is adorable.

Long walk in the sunshine with a friend and her dog ... keeping our distance of course, but wow! Actual in-person conversation ... that was a bit special

I looked in the mirror this morning and saw one of the Flumps staring back at me. Have now ordered clippers; the last time I had a haircut was the day after I got back from Japan... so February 12th.
(Yes, I have cut my own hair before.)

A couple of UK gaming channels I follow on YouTube decided to have a fundraiser for the NAACP on account of the recent events in the US. They started out setting what they thought was an optimistic target of $10,000. They got there in about 20 minutes. By the time their second stream started they'd already doubled, then trebled, their target and have now raised well over $50k.
At times like these it's good to see people can still be generous.
